There is a grocery store located on the ground floor and makes it an ideal home away from home. The reception is open long hours and the staff are the friendliest melbournians I've met. The housekeeping was done daily on request. They have an undercover secured carpark and I was guaranteed a spot for a minimal daily rate, which was later refunded as I stayed for over a month. Love the management and their customer service. Did i mention, there is a Gym, Swimming pool which can be used free of charge during your stay. There is also a cafe on site. Awesome perks, makes living here as good as staying in a hotel. One small improvement would make this a 5 star place. The apartment offers internet but it's not wifi enabled.

Yuck! This is worse than staying in a 1 star motel. We supposedly have one of the "nicest luxury…read moreunits" they have which is a 2 bedroom 2 bath with living room and kitchen. The space layout is ok. The decor is ok too.. not great but not bad. However, it's dirty and has scuff marks all over the walls. No tea towel in the kitchen, no paper towels, and remotes don't work. The tiny closets serve no purpose since they don't fit your luggage and they don't have any hangers. They also have no dressers or drawers so I guess I'm supposed to live out of my suitcase for a week. They have no soap, no amenities and no blankets on the bed!! One fucking sheet. .. and apparently that is normal?? Also, the supposed grocery store is like shopping at 7-11 it's not a grocery store. It's a convenience store that you can grab a few over priced snacks. I would never recommend this place to anybody and I would never stay here again! We do have two kids so the idea of a kitchen sounded nice, but it is in useable. So what is the point?? I would much rather be in a nice hotel and have amenities and room service since we have to eat out every meal anyway.

They have great relations with this hotel and we keep coming back. We arrived from the airport and they allowed all 70 of us to store our bags in a room. Very helpful. The views were absolutely gorgeous. The rooms were spacious, BEAUTIFUL kitchen, two bathrooms, great design. In love. Found out they had a brunch buffet downstairs. Took advantage of that one morning. Unfortunately on this trip, I got the stomach flu and wasn't feeling too hot. I asked for an extension for check out. They gave me a 2 hour extension and I was very grateful. The one thing that I didn't like was that there wasn't free wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby. We had to pay. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone considering to stay in Melbourne!

We had full breakfast prepaid with reservation and it was lousy to the point that I only went down for tea and toast after the 2nd day. Had to ask for coffee since pot was mostly empty. Moldy oranges in the fruit display, literally charred croissants in bread basket. No coffee on more than 2 days and this was right after they opened.... On days there was no coffee I was offered espresso or cappuccino from the adjoining coffee shop? How does that even make any sense? You can bring me coffee from next door but can't manage a pot from within your own kitchen? Scrambled eggs were runny and over easy eggs were stacked up on each other. Everything was lukewarm, even the hot water. Nice selection of bread to toast though... Housekeeping put clean dishes I had washed from the drain board into the dishwasher with dirty dishes, which would've been nice if they were all dirty. But even then how about turning it on then? Or how about cleaning the bathroom counters and floors? Very strange. The housekeeping women was as nice as she could be when I asked for towels or detergent, but I had to go to her closet with her to show her what I meant since she didn't speak English. Wi fi was costly but I bought it anyway, I think it was 14.95/day, but not sure since I bought for 3 days for $40. It was very slow but it suited my needs. Conveniently close to other good places to eat, like the Thailicious restaurant next door or Chinatown, etc. as I travel around Australia the rest of my trip, every time I see a Mantra hotel I laugh and then feel, sorry for those inside. They get 2 stars for tea, toast, sweet housekeeping staff and being close to other places to eat.

The rooms were very modern and cozy. The hotel has a small bar/restaurant by the hotel lobby. The front of the hotel looks like it's in a ghetto alley way which caught us off guard but turned out to be very nice inside. The only cons are that there is currently a lot of construction being conducted around the hotel and the free Wi-Fi is limited (250MB daily) and there is a good chance you will have to upgrade for $10 (2GB no time expiration) as we did.

We stayed at City Centre Budget Hotel (CCBH) for three nights near the end of January 2014. I chose…read morethis hotel mainly because of its close proximity to Melbourne Park for the Australian Open. But being located in the central business district (CBD), the hotel is also near plenty of restaurants, cafes, the free city circle tram stop, and Federation Square. ROOM -- $112 per night summer rate for a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom was a good deal. The room had a large, comfy, and clean queen-sized bed, a bedside stand, a wide flat screen TV, a glass table with two chairs, a fan, and a mini fridge. But everything was cramped, with little space for maneuvering. The bathroom floor was always wet because the shower didn't have a divider to separate it from the toilet. Water temperature varied a lot, often too cold. AMENITIES -- For such a simple and basic hotel, there were still a lot of amenities offered. A hair dryer was available for a $10 refundable deposit. A DVD player with movie rentals was available for a $2 refundable deposit. There were two desktop computers with a printer for guests to use. Free wifi was available, but it was really slow. An upper level shared kitchen and rooftop garden were free to use as well. The reception also helped book day tours to Phillips Island or the Great Ocean Road. LOCATION -- Located in CBD, the hotel is easy walking distance to Federation Square, Melbourne Park, and Flinders Station (all around 10-15 minutes). It's a little longer of a walk to Queen Victoria Market (close to 25 minutes). There's several bars and late night restaurants along Little Collins St and Meyers Place, so the noise of people disposing empty glass bottles at 2am and the recycling truck picking it up at 5am can be problematic if you're a light sleeper. STAFF -- Reception was nice and friendly. Check in starts at 2pm and you're given the option of being charged in AUD or your home currency. Check out is 10am latest, and it was a quick process. Reception desk is only open from 7:30am to 7:30pm, so outside of those hours, you'll need to punch in a code at the main door or call the after hours phone number if locked out of your room. Overall, our stay at CCBH was pleasant. I arrived knowing how cheap and rundown the place was going to be, but I was surprised at how nice (relative to the price paid) the hotel actually was. They also have rooms with shared bathroom facilities for slightly cheaper rates, so CCBH is actually a cross between a hotel and a hostel. I recommend bringing ear plugs and requesting a room that doesn't face the main streets. Also, the hotel doesn't have a lift, so you'll need to carry your luggage up either one or two flights of stairs.

Our room was perfectly appointed with everything we needed. My eyes were immediately drawn to the large soaking tub, in which I would eventually turn into a prune from soaking so long. The bath salts and loofah were the cherry on top. The breakfast buffet was something to behold. By far the best we've ever had. Traditional breakfast foods spanning many different cultures filled one side of the restaurant. We were always rushing to our next adventure so never really had the time to sit and graze. What took this hotel breakfast to a new level was the to-go box they packed for us when we had to leave for the airport before breakfast was served. No one has ever done that for us. The front desk staff including the concierge were absolute fonts of information (and patience with my inability to follow a map). The location also couldn't be beat - half a block from a tram stop (that was free in April!) and quite walkable to other parts of the city. Everything about the W was right on point. (And the umbrellas to borrow and mimosas in the lobby were just icing on the cake!). I doubt we'll be back in Melbourne but if we were, I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else.

For anyone that is going to be staying here I am your new best friend since I have learn a few little helpful hints about this place. Firstly when you are going to the bathroom or having a shower go to the top level as it is the cleanest, has a mirror and the water is the hottest where in the first level the water is colder. Also for a morning shower you are best to go around 10am because from my experience it was just finished getting cleaned by the cleaner. This hostel also offers a free thirty minute wifi each day on each device and resets every 24 hours. The reception is open 24/7 and I found to be helpful and friendly. Elizabeth Hostel is not a five star hotel but it is the cheapest and anyone looking to save money on their hotel and transport i will recommend this place and I would stay here again on my next visit.

Be prepared to part with your ID, as security for the room key, or pay a 30 buck deposit. Far far far better options for cheap hostel accommodation in the city.
