They were a little bit quicker to communicate with us in the beginning when wanting to set up testing AKA get our money. Still has yet to provide an explanation of test results after multiple messages asking (all appears to be fine from what we see on the portal - guess since they can't get more appointments and money we no longer matter). Current doc does not appear to have reviewed past medical records and took them into account when recommending a bone marrow biopsy. Disappointed that the nurse was congratulating the doctor for performing 2 biopsies in one day. Beginning to feel like my husband was put through unneeded testing to meet some twisted quota. With all the myths going around about having a colonoscopy done, I was naturally a little nervous, just like many others probably are. But here at this Center everyone was so friendly and professional that by explaining the procedure and providing me with the knowledge of the advantages of having one done, rather than trying to avoid it, I looked forward to having one done. And Dr. Sahebjam was so kind and caring that he put me at ease the moment I first met him and provided me with the knowledge to understand the procedure and the benefits of it. If any polyps were found they could be removed, providing hope that everything would be alright. My insurance covered the payment for the whole procedure except.the copayment for seeing a specialist and the medications needed to prepare for it, which my CVS pharmacist helped me pay less for these by using a special program they had in which I write about in my CVS Pharmacy review. All the step of the way I was kept informed that it was covered and I wouldn't have to pay a cent. Naturally after reading the negative reviews I was worried but now I know better than to pay attention to them. The Center kept in touch continously with me via phone calls, emails, and text to make sure I didn't miss an appointment and in case I had any questions on the preparation procedure. I had an assigned person to keep in touch in case I had a question on the preparation for the procedure. The colonoscopy was performed at the Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia by Dr Sahebjam. I did have to drink a lot of water after I drank a medication mixed with water, but this made me thirsty enough that I easily drank the extra couple of glasses of water with no problem at all. And being without eating didn't seem to bother me much as I thought it would. A good friend of mine drove me to the Hospital on the morning of the procedure and waited for me there until it was finished. There I was treated very well and interviewed by several people, including hospital staff, nurses, anesthesiologist, and Dr Sahebjam. As soon as they brought me to the procedure room after I changed into hospital clothing, they put the anesthesia into my vein and an oxygen mask and immediately fell asleep that didn't feel a thing. I woke up to the call of my doctor who explained that everything had gone well and showed me the pictures. Since I didn't have any polyps and the results were normal he recommended that I didn't have to have another one done until 10 years. I was given the exit papers including copies of the pictures they took by a nurse, got dressed, and taken in a wheelchair to my friend's car, who drove me home. I week after I had a follow-up visit to the Center where a nurse explain to me how the procedure had gone and saw that I had totally recovered from it. I highly recommend this place to anyone who needs to have a colonoscopy done, as well as Dr Sahebjam and his staff.

My wife has been on a call with the insurance company and Gastroenterology Consultants of Southwest Virginia and they refuse to refund the over payment. We paid $667 when we were only suppose to pay $300. If you still choose to use these dishonest people, DO NOT pay in advance, they are crooks and impossible to deal with. I have never written a review for anything before in my life but this has been such a bad experience for us I decided to write a review to warn others. My dissatisfaction stems from the fact that during my check-up I was asked if I had any concerns, at which point I mentioned some mild issues I had been having and the doctor simply confirmed that the steps I had already been taking or was planning to take were appropriate. I was then surprised to find that this interaction led to me being charged an extra $153 because speaking about an issue reclassified my visit from a check-up (covered by my insurance) to a level 3 office visit (not covered by my insurance). In my opinion, a doctor should not ask a question which if answered will incur an extra cost without warning the patient. When I brought this up to the staff, I was told most people have better insurance than I do and that is why they do not warn patients that answering the question could incur unexpected costs, which I did not feel was a satisfactory answer.

While I've had positive visits in the past, my last visit was disappointing. I should have read the forms more carefully, but it would be helpful for the physician and technicians to go over them verbally. I was told later that there was no way to no what the cost would be. However, I was given a bill promptly after the diagnostics with an amount. In other practices, such as optometrists, a full rundown of costs are given before you purchase an item. It isn't difficult. So, I find it unconvincing that a routine test and standard insurance deductibles could not be estimated beforehand. Another issue I encountered at this office during several visits was the display of a bible -- once in an exam room and later in the waiting room. I was told that patients sometimes leave items. But there was no indication that they intended to do anything about it. I find it hard to believe people randomly leave items in exam rooms without them being noticed and removed. I think it's important to create a neutral and welcoming environment for all patients, not just a select group. So, Lewis Gale Physicians apparently are either proselytizing or pandering. Neither is useful in a medical practice. I will likely be looking for an alternative that treats all patients respectfully, discloses costs, and communicates more effectively.

Surgery was in May. I called office and the nurse told me that it wouldn't have anything to do with my surgery and I would need to go to urgent care. I asked is it dangerous and she stated well I can't tell you that only urgent care can inform you . So I asked again so this wouldn't be a follow up to my surgery because I have had problems since I had it done and she states no. The office has screwed up 3 appointments of mine as well. I showed up for an appointment and first they say or you have no appointment today and I said yes today is pre- op appointment and the front desk tells me well Dr. Farmer is off today so you can see PA. I should of realized then not to go forward with surgery . Even though my knee was killing me and I had a torn meniscus (which wasn't fixed during surgery , PA stated they didn't need to as it wasn't in the way with my knee), my knee cracks, grinds and pops when I try to bend it and I can't get past 50 degrees. The office won't assist you in getting an appointment and urgent care isn't that great either . First time I went to there I was told nothing was wrong with my knee. Even though my knee popped very loud and I dropped to the ground . I'm very disappointed over this whole ordeal. Depressed is a under statement .. don't go to this office . Dr Farmer did a manipulation and knee works wonderful . I informed Dr Farmer of all my concerns and he addressed all of them and everything was fixed !! Thank you Dr Farmer.
