This isn't just another bubble tea shop, it's not even another ChaTime... It's much better!…read more They serve the same drinks they have over at their Sunnybank location and just as good. They also give you the same stickers for frequent customers (Buy 10 get 1 free), just ask for it. The only frustrating part with Sakuraya is the size of the cup. It just doesn't fit in the car cup holder. So either finish it before leaving or drink it when you reach your final destination otherwise you may have to deal with picking up boba from your car floor.

The Eight Mile Plain Sakuraya is exclusively a dessert/ drinks bar and a popular one at that. Even though it only opened last year, this shop has a faithful following lounging around in the indoor/ outdoor dining area, sipping drinks, munching on those glutinous Japanese rice balls and just people watching in general. They do the usual assortment of pearl milk teas and fruity green/black teas. When I went last weekend, I wanted to try something a little different so the waitress recommended a Winter Melon Yoghurt drink. This was perfect for the hot weather but I would only recommend it if you enjoy drinks with a distinct sour sweetness such as Yakult. They also stock a range of gelati that I've never heard of called Norgen Vaaz though I'm willing to give it a go if it is as tasty as their drinks range.

Sonder Dessert - Matcha cake was pretty underwhelming, no matcha taste at all. And a matcha drink. The matcha ice cream was extremely good though.

Although not a matcha themed cafe they do have a variety of hot & cold drinks & a cute range of desserts to try - some leaning towards the asian variety. I've read past reviews where some say that the matcha lattes for them was not strong enough, but I guess I got lucky when I had mine the other week? - As I found it hard to fault anything. Service was good & friendly, & I find it a clean, well presented place to go to relax & catch up with friends. Just make sure you don't go in their most busiest hours as I believe there is limited seating. Other than that, definitely order the creme brulee as its memorably amazing & choose the hojicha menu items if you appreciate matcha flavour as they dont disappoint ! :)

Started seeing Sonder popping up in various social media feeds so decided to check it out…read more I wasn't disappointed :) Service was most pleasant, very friendly crew. One of the guys actually helped guide our car into a parking spot! The decor is super cute, with hanging plants from the ceiling and attractive lights. The space indoors is a bit tight, there's room for three booths, one long table and about four smaller ones; there are also lots of tables outside. I had the hojicha float, consisting of iced hojicha latte and hojicha ice cream. Hojicha is Japanese green tea roasted over charcoal. The latte was pleasant but the ice cream was the stand out for me! So yum. A friend had the black sesame parfait. It was served in a long glass so it was a bit difficult to eat as we wanted to mix up the various ingredients. The serving had black sesame ice cream, mochi, parfait, cream, sweetened red beans, cornflakes and matcha jelly. Once again, the ice cream was sensational! Overall, it was a really good dessert/experience and I can't wait to go back and try others!

At $0.70 a mini hot cake, how can you not want to try it out…read more They make it right in front of you and you can see the making filling process, yes, they are good to eat, and won't make you sick. For those of you who have never had any of these before, imagine a thick pikelet sandwich with your choice of filling inside. It's toasted, it's hot, the batter is pretty much the same as what you would have if you ordered a crepe... you need to try one. I recommend the custard filled one, the green tea filled one, the chocolate one, the brioche like twists aren't the best, but you should try them anyway. You could easily snack on 3-4 they are so small. The one with peanuts is nice too... they have a million options to choose from so go crazy! If you're feeling a bit adventurous, they also sell cold buck wheat noodle packs... it's something that's very popular in china and asia... it's cold buck wheat noodles with cucumber and some garnish on the sides, with a vinegarette type sauce over the top. It's very appetizing... I haven't tried them here, but they're conveniently packed in the little display unit on the counter.

Clearly, I didn't do enough because a year later, the Garden City franchise shut down and I now have to go to Sunnybank Plaza for my hot cakes. It's well worth the trip though. These sweet battered cakes are piping hot thick pancakes with a variety of fillings inside. I like the taro, red bean or green tea although they do have more adventurous flavours such as coconut and corn. One pancake cost less than $1 and is the perfect afternoon snack. Personally, I think the price is a little cheap given they are actually pretty filling and tasty to boot.
