The best music store in Queens. I dropped off my Telecaster to be serviced and George went above…read moreand beyond to make it look and sound like it was brand new. It was a great experience, the prices were fair and the service was excellent. George also made it super easy to coordinate schedules, especially when so many places' hours are varied due to COVID right now. Thanks, George. I'll definitely be back for all my other music needs.

I bought a used 1/4-sized violin on eBay and wanted to get a new set of strings for it. Astoria…read moreMusic is the only music instrument and repair shop in the area that I'm aware of, so I decided to go there and take a look. The owner had only Sonora SV10 steel strings for full size 4/4 violins. But he was absolutely certain that they will work great on the 1/4 kids instrument. Because I really wanted the new strings, I bought them, but the price of $46.95 felt a bit steep. So, when I came home and checked the price online, the same strings are sold for $18 per set, or in a 5-pack they are sold for $13 per set. Which means, he charges 300% of the actual value. You can buy premium / professional-grade D'Addario or Thomastik-Infeld strings for $40-50. Yeah. I also asked the guy if he would be willing to buy (or sell from his shop) one of my used guitars, and he basically told me that he only buys for bargain prices (like $100 or less), fixes the instruments and resells. This lines up with the story from the other reviewer who bought the bass with a crazy bent headstock. So, my overall impression is that the shop is not very trustworthy, you have to compare prices with Amazon, Reverb, or eBay before buying, and if you are a guitar player then, honestly, just learn how to setup your guitars yourself - it is easy and rewarding - there are so many instructional videos on Youtube that you can learn everything about basic guitar setup in 30 minutes, quicker then it takes to drop off your instrument at this shop. And if you want to learn real cool stuff about fixing badly broken guitars, check out Ted Woodford's youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/@twoodfrd The end of the story about buying Sonora strings: I came one more time to Astoria Music try to return the strings, but the shop was closed. I returned home and bought online a set of Thomastik Alphayue (1/4-size) for $28, which were great.

I had been in a couple of places that day while shopping with a friend for an upright. My friend didn't want to go into the Steinway location because she said it would be too expensive. Well, I beg to differ! After spending time with Steve, I learned why a Steinway piano made today verses used and pre-owned is by far the best piano on the market. I was very impressed with the service that he gave and the professionalism that he displayed. The piano I fell in love with sounds amazing, feels great and is just stunning! We had been to three dealers that day. He definitely set himself apart from the other places I visited without being disrespectful of other piano showrooms. The previous all put down Steinway and each other. That's just bad business in my opinion. There's room for everyone in any business. Everyone has a different class of elegance. Some people don't have any! That's the difference! That's my point! I'm now taking piano lessons and will buy a Steinway next year when I move into my new home. You can bet that I'll be back to Paramus to purchase from Steve Salerno. "Five stars all the way! That's why it's a Steinway!"
