My friends and I visited St Omer for the day and spent some time in the Queen Victoria. We ordered two glasses of wine and two Liffe beers. The bill was 23.17 euros! Unfortunately the landlady presented us with the bill, which we paid without quibble, but she whipped it away again before we could check the individual prices and any surcharges. It never reappeared, and our knowledge of the language didn't extend to requesting another inspection. The beers were half a litre each and the supposedly large glasses of wine were nothing more than acidic normal UK measures in appearance.
We felt ripped off and made a decision never again to cross the threshold! read more
