So very peaceful there and I got a kick from resting my tired old butt on the same seats as some Roman citizens did 2000 years ago. I gotta say, those Roman architects knew how to build and design seating that was surprisingly comfortable, bare stone and cement that they are! If Vieux Lyon is old then these ruins - formerly known as Lugdunum - was ancient Lyon. It really is quite awesome thinking about the layered history of this city. The open air theaters' are still used today; there is a museum too but unfortunately wasn't open on the day we visited. I would have loved to learn more about Lugdunum and its evolution into modern-day Lyon.

There isn't much to see whilst you are on your way up to Fourviere because you travel through a tunnel but keep your eyes open for some art and sculptures that are in the nooks in the walls. I'd suggest riding up one side and down the same so you get to see both sides of the wall. I'm also pretty sure I saw an open toilet with a sink so, hey you may get quite the view in here. The funicular comes pretty often so we didn't even check a timetable. We just showed up and waited. Very easy.

F1 - a single 2m track up Fourviere and the fancy church ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/basilique-notre-dame-de-fourvière-lyon-2 ). F2 - a more traditional 1m track with a mid-point where the up and down cars pass each other. This is the Mimes-St Just funicular.

For so many reasons: - I missed speaking English since I left Paris, and that's a perfect time to do it: no shy, no judgement about how you speak, if you're fluent, if you're bad, if you're tired. The coolest thing is that you're participating (and practice your English so that your foreign ex-roomates do not make fun of you =) ) - A small group of privileged people! Yes, privileged. Because when you end up with 3 other girls talking about your last lterature crushes, it's just perfect. - How does it work? Every month, Lucy creates an event and picks the place. Every people that comes is welcome to bring one book in english and present it to his/her fellows. Then you can debate if any other people has already read it and so on (careful of spoilers). And you can switch books, so that you don't have a huge pile of books to buy. - What is great is that according to the books picked, we can also chat about our lives or similar situations, or similar environments (trips, countries the books are taking place in, other books from the other and so on), and you finally get to know the people in the group more personnally and I really like it. Really, I'm so glad Lucy had this fantastic idea because it's just so interesting and so cool going there (especially after 1 vodka cocktail). From now on, Lucy will pick up a theme for every session and I think it's brilliant. It will allow us to maybe read something we would not think about at first (especially for the next one!) and I think it's a great experience! C'est en 1825 que l'architecte Farge fut chargé par la municipalité d'élargir le passage et d'en faire un lieu clair et luxueux, inauguré en 1827. Ce passage abrite actuellement des couteliers et de nombreux habilleurs, chapeliers, maroquiniers.
