    Boardwalk Beast - The Beast

    Boardwalk Beast

    (10 reviews)

Thrilling, Fast, and Fun for Everyone!…read more I went on the Boardwalk Beast speedboat ride in July, and I can honestly say it was my best speedboat experience so far. From start to finish, the energy and excitement never let up. One thing I really appreciated was that the drivers didn't tone things down just because there were kids on board. Too often, family activities get watered down under the assumption that younger passengers can't handle a bit of speed and thrill -- but here, everyone got the full experience, and it made the ride so much more enjoyable. The boat tore across the water with plenty of twists, turns, and splashes, giving just the right mix of adrenaline and fun. The ride was also a decent length -- not one of those experiences that's over before you can really enjoy it. I left feeling like I got great value for my ticket and a truly memorable adventure. If you're looking for a high-energy, wind-in-your-face thrill that the whole family can enjoy without it being overly "tame," the Boardwalk Beast is absolutely worth it. I would definitely be back for another round!

First time riding a speed boat and had fun! Staff were friendly and the girl dancing in the front…read morereally committed to the performance and had lots of energy, even though the boat wasn't completely full. The soundtrack was very catchy. You will definitely get wet during the fast turns, no matter where you sit. Heading out of the harbor and back in you also have a beautiful view of the coastline and the bay. You buy tickets onsite, at a booth right behind where the boat is anchored. Ride times are posted there, and I think the frequency of ride times depends on how busy it is at the boardwalk, it's not running continuously. I was on the water around 20 minutes. The only thing I would recommend against is buying the rain poncho they offer. Since the ride is so fast, the ponchos of the guests in front of me were just blowing behind them only attached to their necks, and they got as wet as if they hadn't worn anything. I chose to wear a heavier zip up rain jacket which kept me somewhat drier, but my pants were still drenched and water even spilled down from my neck, so be prepared. Best on a hot day but lots of fun even on a cold spring day. Must try at least once.

Waterford Harbor Yacht Club & Marina - Sundance Grill II in the marina

Waterford Harbor Yacht Club & Marina

On the outside, or to those visiting for short periods of time, the marina may look well…read moremaintained. However, the bathrooms have broken showers, sinks, and toilets. The entry doors are so heavy that they are inaccessible to disabled residents. Pier 17's showers have so much mold growing, you can smell it when you walk in. Heating/cooling rarely work properly. Ceiling boards are missing or falling apart. Tiles are missing leaving holes in the walls that they use painters tape to cover. Pool bathrooms are not very well maintained. The "gym" is a joke. It is a closet sized room that contains all broken equipment. The pool has only recently been taken care of on a regular basis due to patrons getting sick from using it. They still don't clean the tiles and sides of the pool so there is often duck feces dripping from them. Management is more worried about the leaves on the ground that maintenance blows away everyday, than actually fixing things or cleaning up the piers that are bombarded nightly by duck and bird feces. Entire piers are unusable. Residents and slip renters have repeatedly asked to enclose the pet areas. Many residents don't clean up after their dogs with zero accountability. Weekenders empty thier black water tanks into the marina with zero accountability. DO NOT SWIM IN THE WATER. There are about 6 shots necessary following a fall into the water. Billing is always off; sometimes they double charge, sometimes there are incorrect or no charges. Staff used to be quite rude; they seem better and more receptive now. There seem to be multiple maintenance people, but no work being done on anything other than thier personal vehicles. But yes, the marina is very well protected, the Christmas light are beautiful, and the restaurant is wonderful.

I had the good fortune to live on my boat here for several months, and this marina is the standard…read moreagainst which I measure all other marinas. So far, no other marinas have come close. The approach and marina have plenty of depth for a 6-, or possibly a 7-foot keel. All of the docks are floating, full-length finger docks. The entire marina is well protected. I weathered Hurricane Harvey here without any difficulty, and to my knowledge, no boats were damaged. The marina has full amenities, including a gym, sauna, and tennis courts. The onsite bar/restaurant is quite nice, but there isn't a ship's store. There are two heated/air conditioned restroom-shower facilities each for men and women, and another pair in the clubhouse right next to the sauna. All of them are pretty close to the docks, and all are very clean and nice. WiFi is free, but is marginal in all but a few places. There are grocery, hardware, and West Marine stores all within 1-2 miles, but little within walking distance. There are also a number of repair yards nearby. The marina staff are very helpful and eager to please, and the community of live-ins, as well as the weekend warriors are friendly and welcoming. There is even a mixer every Friday evening, and Taco Tuesdays at a nearby taco joint. I have to say that if it weren't for the iffy WiFi, this marina would be exceptional in every sense. I highly recommend it.
