In choosing a trusted printer to work with, QUALITY and INTEGRITY are of utmost importance. Pequod…read morehas none of these, at least in particular, a man who works there named Ron.
Whatever your business is, I urge you not to use this thieving company. To give you some background, I am a graphic designer who visited Pequod on behalf of my client, who owns a lounge in New Brunswick.
The office itself is dingy and unwelcoming. There is no one at the front desk and I just had to walk into the office on my own account in order to find someone to help me. That should have been a red flag, but hey-maybe they were under construction, and what did I care as long as the quality of the printing was great?
The job was for a trifold menu, which my client wanted laminated for durability in case drinks were spilled, etc. Though every printer I visited told me they wouldn't be able to do this service (considering the crease of the trifold and lamination would cause problems), Ron told me he could do it. I asked for 2 samples and he charged me $25 for the sample. Though every printer I've had experience with has always given a complimentary sample, I didn't complain because the samples required lamination. Fair enough.
He quoted me at $5/menu for 50. The sample turned out great, I handed it over to my client, it was what they wanted. My client visits Pequod himself to finalize the order, Ron turns around and charges him $8/menu even though he had already quoted us at $5. My client points this out and Ron says he can do it for $5 but tells him he can't order any less than 50.
When the menus come in, they are printed on glossy paper but NOT laminated. They tore easily, and it was obvious. My client told Ron that it was not what he had asked for. Ron agreed to reprint. When the second round came in, almost EVERY SINGLE MENU has bubbles in the lamination and is nowhere near the quality of the sample we were given. To top it off, instead of the $250 ($5 for 50 menus) that my client and Ron had agreed upon, Ron charged my client's card for $400+ WITHOUT TELLING HIM.
Perhaps Pequod/Ron's reasoning for the double charge was because they had to reprint the menus. But then again, they didn't even do what my client had asked for in the first place! The reprint should be done for free because it was a mistake on THEIR part.
So now not only is my client stuck with 50 terribly done menus, he was charged almost DOUBLE the price Ron had agreed to charge him.
Listen: if there's a service you can't do or is difficult because of technical aspects, DON'T TELL PEOPLE YOU CAN DO IT. Seriously. You're supposed to be the printing experts, and I went into the office asking for your expert advice, and whether or not this could be done. You were obviously just in it for the money because you promised you could deliver when you definitely could not.
I am appalled at this behavior and greatly disappointed in a grown man acting this way, and in his company that allows this to happen. We were never rude, we asked many questions as to their capabilities, and we were misled.
Take your business to Printworx in Hamilton instead (I am not associated with Printworx, but am a new customer there who has been VERY satisfied with their work!), I assure you that you will get the quality, the honesty, and the service you need.
Shame on you, Pequod.
