However thankfully I did not book a room with a view of the city hall and Av Aliandos. The rooms with the view would have to face the noisy construction. Our room was facing a quiet courtyard with apartment buildings surrounding it. And it was quiet as a pin drop! Even during New Year's Eve! They even had heavy blackout curtains. The service was certainly top! They always put more tea for me, extra water bottles in the room, and snacks throughout each day of our stay (from cakes, pasteis de nata, fresh fruits, and chocolates). They were certainly always thoughtful with their touches. On top of it all, the breakfast was excellent! Fresh made to order egg dishes, plus a plethora of hot dishes (beans, cooked tomatoes, mushrooms, potatoes and even miso soup!). They certainly knew how to cater to different tastes. Also the location could not get more central! Right in the middle of all the sites and walking distance from any where you wish to visit in Porto. Overall we loved every second of our stay and hope to come back!

We were offered a glass of port wine on arrival and the bellman taking our bags to the room unprompted! The room was very clean and spacious too! Hubby and I arrived first because we took an earlier train from Lisbon. Initially, the other two rooms were on the same floor and ours was on a separate floor so I asked if it was possible for us to at all be together on the same floor, if not all of the rooms could be next to each other. They ended up upgrading us to a really nice suite! It had a little terrace you could open up and a separate sitting area. Lucky for us! Not so lucky for the other two rooms. Though their rooms were nice too, just not as spacious. Here are some of the pros/cons of our stay: Pros: -Spacious and clean rooms -Nice public sitting area outside of the suite rooms, where we could meet up before heading out -Mini fridge with bottled water and Coca Cola -Each floor has a different theme, which I thought was really cool. You'll see a different scent-themed decor (and smell) for each. For example, one floor was coffee, another was chili, and another was star anise -Very reasonably prices. We booked through Hotels.com and paid maybe about €110 per night, including taxes -Great location! It's right in the center of Porto and most of the tourist attractions and good restaurants are 5-10 minute walk away -Huge bathroom with his and hers sinks and plenty of space underneath for your toiletries -Comfortable beds/pillows. Although it wasn't a true King size, more like two twins pushed together but I think that's just a European thing -Bath robes -Free welcome drink at their hotel bar (which you don't have to use on the same night as you check in if you're too tired) -They let us check in early at around 12:30 even though check-in is not until 2 or 3 Cons: -There is construction going on outside so it's a little bit more difficult (though not impossible) to get an Uber outside. We took an Uber from the Santa Apolonia train station. He couldn't drop us off right in front but it was still just around the corner, so it wasn't terrible even with our huge luggages Honestly, I can't really think of any cons other than that. Highly recommend Pestana Porto. Might be one of the best hotels I've stayed at in Europe!

We were able to walk everywhere in just a few minutes. It is located a little off the beaten path which made it really quiet and relaxing. We stayed down by the river front and across the river most of the time. If you want to go up into the city center, I recommend taking the funicular or uber if you don't want to walk up a huge flight of stairs. The walk to the city center is straight up the entire time but it was fine because we took a break at a coffee shop. This hotel has a beautiful rooftop bar with a really pretty and quiet view of the river. Our room was clean and the tile accents were beautiful. The front desk and bar staff were really friendly and everyone spoke English. If we go back to Porto, we would definitely stay here again.

The shower was broken, the room seemed slightly unclean, and there was an unpleasant smell. The carpets and overall hotel was ugly, the breakfast was mediocre. It was very sterile and bare bones, not a pleasant experience for a stay. They told us we would have to book a new hotel for the second night as we could not stay in our current room, and when we checked out to go to the new hotel they refused to refund our second night that we never stayed in the hotel. We went to the PortoBay Flores hotel and it is exponentially better.

The hotel itself is old but has a charming, aesthetic vibe and is a pretty cool place to stay in Porto. The breakfast was good, and the location is great. The pool is on the smaller side, and I didn't get to use it since the weather wasn't ideal during my stay. It also has a unique old fashioned elevator with a couch, which added to the experience. Overall, it was a cool stay, though they mentioned they'd give me banana bread, and I never received it.

The hotel is beautifully appointed, having recently been renovated, with attention paid to period details. I was impressed by the delicious breakfast service. I felt the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We splurged for the junior suite as we had 3 of us traveling together and it was very comfortable with the addition of a cot in the room. Or note, the restaurant has an extremely tasty and affordable happy hour with 1€ oysters on the half shell. I look forward to visiting again soon!

AC doesn't work well, so you are warned for the summer months. Room was spacious, super clean and very comfortable. Not as many ammenities as other hotels, but you do get the robe and slippers and toiletries (attached to the wall). Not too shabby. The staff for the most part are GREAT. On our first day some really couldn't answer questions/seemed confused and had issues with both English and Spanish, but we got through it. They try hard, and that is worth something. The lobby is small and can get crowded quickly. And now Bicicleta - the most unfriendly, obnoxious and unhelpful group of people I have met in Portugal or in most places. ABSOLUTELY THE PITS. Starting with Mr. Grumpy bouncer with an idiot attitude that is like a drill Sargeant when it came to checking on people not walking in from the streets on their way to the CROWDED breakfast room. (with bfast included in your price I can understand their concerns, but this guy was a bully). Most of the staff have a godforsaken look on their unfriendly faces, so if you are just wandering in to look around, expect to be inspected from head to toe and treated like you are a threat to society. NOT FRIENDLY. Breakfast: Where the coffee machine is located creates a mess of a line in front of the hot breakfast buffet area. Food is not bad, but navigating it gets very confusing. And when you add on the most of the staff are simply the worst you will encounter in hospitality, it makes for a mess. KUDOS however to how management handled the power outage. With back up generator, aging adults were able to use the elevator and toilets flushed. COLD shower, but they had power. What didn't manage the situation well was of course Bicicleta, who could only offer salad and didn't think about bread and cheese and cold cuts. Hotel management of the situation was SUPERB. Bicicleta? They should just keep peddaling into another country and leave for good. Have I said they are a dissappointing crew for the most part? All in all, I would still stay here, now that I know my way around town, because the location is great and management works hard to please!
