The gentleman checking us in was super, friendly and went out of his way to make us feel welcomed.
The room kind of looked clean (floors weren't really dusted well but...). I will say that our room smelled faintly of cigarette smoke and the bed smelled like someone with heavy aftershave had just gotten up out of it.
The standard microwave breakfast fare and hot coffee was up by 6am. The waffle set up was out of commission.
Coffee and eggs ran out by 7 which miffed a couple folks, but DO NOT blame the young woman working even though it's her job. They're expecting her to do too many jobs all at once. She let the phone ring and folks go out the door unattended to try to get more breakfast out. Folks interrupted because they wanted her to do the job she couldn't while she was trying to do the last job she couldn't do while she was trying to do the task in front of her. No this is not poor multitasking she was hustling as she could.
The industry has slipped further and further in the realm of true cleanliness and service, so all of this was ... as current travel goes ... forgivable, because as people watch a young girl hustle they give her a little encouragement and she says, "it's ok." Even if it's not ok or even honestly acceptable.
If you wonder why you see so many help wanted signs realize that the issue is the ownership and not the foundational stewardship. I promise you if an owner took true interest in their people the people take interest in the jobs. But we have accepted a removed corporate standard of care that has caused this at foundation level. The top is so separated from the bottom that they cannot see it at all.
Here's the real problem that gave this place a 2 star rating:
There is NO noise dampening between rooms or between the room and the hallway. I mean it sounded like our door was wide open and we were living with a boisterous family who were all up and living their best life out loud in the next room all night.
We heard all the conversations, footsteps, rooms opening and closing. Even the people you knew were trying to be quieter.
