There are plenty of pumps and an ample-sized parking lot at this Shell location, but a very small…read morestore, which is probably why it is usually never that busy. In fact, I stopped here for a couple Red Bulls the other day after passing by the Cumberland Farms just up the road, because Cumby's parking lot was jam-packed. This location, at the corner of Cowesett and Coit avenues, is usually easy to get in and out of, and it is conveniently located for me. Given its small size, it's definitely not a full-service convenience store - just some basic snacks and drinks. It reminds me of an old-school gas station convenience store, like one I used to work in about 30 years ago when I was in college - not many of these left in an era of super-sized Cumbys. Although I have stopped at this location occasionally over the course of many years, I only just found out on my last visit that they have a public bathroom - I assumed the store was just too small to have a public bathroom, so I never bothered to look or ask for one. There is only one employee on duty here at any given time - that's all that is needed - and the employees who work there have always been polite. All in all, this is a good alternative if you are in a hurry and just want to grab some gas and/or basic snacks.

I LOVE THE CAR WASH!!…read more This place is like striking gold! I've driven "boxes" for years from Jeep Wagoneers to Subaru Foresters and no matter what car wash I've taken them to the brushes have never done a good job cleaning the back of the car. It isn't a problem at the ones that have crews who dry your car afterwards because they hand wipe the back clean. This automatic one makes the back look clean as a whistle and at just $5.00 for the basic wash it is one quarter the price or less than a staffed car wash. (Plus you don't have to leave a tip. :) ) If you've had the same problem with getting your vehicle totally clean pull into this Shell at the corner of Cowesett and Coit Avenues. You won't be sorry. :-) PS - It takes bills but not cards and doesn't make change so if you don't have the right change you can go in the store first and they'll give you a receipt with a code to put into the payment machine at the wash.

This gas station/convenience store is by no means fancy, and it has a somewhat limited selection of…read moredrinks, grocery items and snacks. Inside is kinda dingy and I saw no bathroom for customers. There's no impressive coffee station, unlike Cumberland Farms. Normally, I would rate this type of gas station/convenience store around two stars (or even one, if there are more serious issues), but I have no problem rating this place a solid three stars, and would even give it 3.5 stars, if Yelp allowed half stars in individual ratings. That's because their prices are super low. As of Oct. 20, 2017, their price for regular unleaded gas was $2.43 - that's a full 20 cents per gallon less expensive than the Shell station nearby! Also, they charge less than $2.80 for a gallon of 1 percent milk, which is the cheapest current price I've seen. And, a 16-ounce Red Bull was $3.79, versus an average of $4.19 elsewhere. Their location - adjacent to the traffic rotary across from Royal Mills - is actually quite convenient and easy to pull in and out of, with several curb cuts in their parking lot. Yet another reason I like them is that I ran out of gas nearby, about a year ago, and they helped me out a lot when I was in a jam, so I appreciate that. I really need to go here more often, and you should too, if you like to save money!

Bottom line: This is one of the smaller, grungier Speedway locations…read more Speaking of location, it's in a very treacherous location, as far as traffic is concerned. The three-way intersection it is near has odd angles, and traffic tends to speed, so I usually avoid stopping here, unless I am on Providence Street, traveling toward downtown W.W., so I don't have to cross opposing traffic. Even if you are pulling out and turning right, you have to be on high alert. Furthermore, the parking lot is WAY too small to support the businesses that are next to this Speedway. It adjoins Westcott House Pizza, which has delivery drivers going in and out, so you must navigate around them. (There is also a barbershop and Chinese restaurant in a separate building, but very close to Speedway, adding to the feeling that you are negotiating an asteroid field in this parking lot.) Finding an open gas pump that's on the right side for your vehicle is a challenge; I had to wait behind another car this Saturday to get gas. And, the curb cuts are in awkward locations. The inside has so-so drink selections, and few food options. On today's visit, the rollers were not turning on the heater keeping the few burritos warm, so I would definitely opt out of those. Usually there is only one employee on duty, whereas other locations have two or three workers. My biggest beefs with Speedway is that most (including this one) have no public bathrooms, and their aggressive pushing of their Speedy Rewards card. My wallet is full enough of cards already, thank you.

This is one of my frequent stops, since it's in a convenient location. The parking lot is huge,…read moreand there are three entrances: two from the main road, and one from the side road (Laurel Avenue). There are a good number of gas pumps, plus they sell ice and have a propane tank exchange. The store itself, however, is tiny. There is no bathroom, which cost them a star. And, the register is located near the front door, so if there are as few as even two people in line, it's awkward going in and out of the store, as you have to literally dodge people. It's not unusual for one of the narrow merchandise aisles (usually the first aisle) to be filled with a line of people waiting to check out. Although the store is tiny, somehow it manages to cram in a few display cases of vaping juice and accessories. Gas prices are okay, but one of the main reasons I frequent this store is that they have good prices on Garelick Farms milk ($2.99, versus about $4.50 at a supermarket). But, they are sometimes out of the 1 percent variety (grrrr!), and then I have to settle for a half-gallon. Cashiers who work there are okay, although not the most energetic, upbeat people. And, on more than a few occasions, I've seen some sketchy customers that appear to be under the influence (thankfully, they walked to the store) or otherwise 'out there' in some way. Besides being convenient, this business is in a beautiful location, right next to the Pawtuxet River and a man-made waterfall, and the former Anthony Mill, which is now a large apartment complex. The smoke stack of the former mill still proudly stands above the landscape. There is also a small parking lot for the bike path nearby.

Conveniently located at the intersection of New London Avenue and Legris Avenue (Route 117), it's not too difficult to pull in and out of, thanks to the traffic light. There are a decent number of gas pumps, and adequate parking. Gas prices are about average for the area. My first impression upon walking into the store today was a strong odor that smelled like burnt coffee or burnt food. Besides the strong odor, another thing I noticed was that the tile floor has seen better days. The ceramic tiles were scratched, and some were cracked. Two of the coolers had very noisy fans or compressors. Another oddity was a rectangular, folding table with six chairs around it, in the middle of the floor toward the back of the store, between the beverage coolers, and the coffee and fountain drink stations. Apparently the table is for the benefit of Keno players, although during my stop there this afternoon, it was cluttered with half-full cases of Red Bull cans, as if someone had been restocking the coolers. (Speaking of energy drinks, many are discounted if you buy two.) The "American Mart" also has some hot, prepared foods. I get the impression that the store is trying to emulate a Speedway or the newly-improved Cumberland Farms, but it falls way short. It's an okay place to get gas and a drink, but that's about it as far as I'm concerned.
