That was a great start for me and things just got better. So it's a shop full to the brim with alcohol - one doth not protest. This however, is nothing new for an off-license, but where The Offie succeeds in not being just another off-license is the fact that they offer a great range of alcoholic beverages from all over the globe. This means that if you actually enjoy the taste of alcohol rather than simply using it for its ill-gotten gains, you are able to revel in the great selection. For me this meant Asahi the Japanese beer: not so rare, but nice to see nevertheless. My Canadian friend was very shocked to see Canadian ginger beer and lagers that he'd actually travelled all the way to London to get. And my other friend who introduced us to The Offie was there for the Lebanese beers. If you're an astute alcohol consumer, or you're missing a taste from home, check out The Offie. Of course it does have more specialist beers, such as Leffe and Asahi, but these are now the types of beers you can find in your local supermarket anyway. I'm almost sad to admit how good this place is, with its clean clear layout and decent size, as the shop next door is often run by exceptionally friendly old lady who is more than happy to chat pleasantly with you. The Wine Lodge is undoubtedly the best stop off point for supplies in the area, and worth visiting if you happen to be in the area for one of the many pubs.

I bought two thinking I was going to be reprimanded but it was excellent and went down really well on all fronts!

Currently, with lots of special offers over the new year period, now would be a good time to stock up for those rainy days. Why have I only just found you!? *sadface*…read more Apparently they have been open for just over a year now and I've walked down East Street soooo many times over that period but completely missed this place. This is my perfect idea of Saturday afternoon shopping! (Sorry Churchill Square). Not only do they stock ALL of my favourite beers/breweries from Beavertown to Cloudwater, Flying Dog to Wild Beer and lots more....they also brew their own which tastes pretty good too! We stocked up and purchased 10 bottles and was given a loyalty card. Every £15 you spend you get a stamp and you get something for free after every 3 stamps which is pretty good going. They also sell Growler's where you can fill it up with their own beer or they have a couple of others on draft too (Cloudwater last time I visited but they change it regularly apparently). The only thing that was a little bit off was the service, the lady was nice enough but she seemed to spend more time helping a guy who walked in asking 'Do you sell any proper beers? As in like Fosters or Carling or something?' Perhaps she realised that he needed a lot more help :) But it would have been nice to chat to her and get her opinion as an expert on perhaps beers that they stock that we've never tried before and/or learn a bit more about their own beer. But she did give me a taste of the latest Cloudwater on draft....and anyone that feeds me Cloudwater is all good in my books. A solid 5 stars for me for the selection of beers and their own brew only, hopefully the service will be 5 star worthy too next time we visit as I can see this place being somewhere that we will be visiting a lot! *happyface*

At the end of the shop closest to the front door they had a very welcoming bench, made, we were told with reclaimed timber from Brighton Pier. On the black board at the back were bright yellow messages and illustrations in their signature style. We glugged back the Bison's Beast Street ipa and to me it had an elderflower taste (that's a new one on them). Great little shop with a huge selection of craft beers and a massive crowdfunding campaign. They hope to raise funds to turn an abandoned listed building into an independent pub.

If you're after a newspaper and a pint of milk, Three 2 Four scores on both counts. If you're looking for something hale and hearty however, there are much better late night stores in the area - like Buy 2 Win. A lot of the the brand products like Heinz tomato soup, Ambrosia custard and Mr Kipling cakes seem significantly over-priced whilst the biscuits, bread and tinned food tends to look more cheap and cheerful than appetising. The alcohol and freezer section also veers more towards economy purchasing with flurescent alcopops, giant bottles of cider, four packs of strong beer and frozen ready meals.
