Let's talk about Westcove House…read more It's ridiculous. It's magical. It's idyllic. It's one of the happiest places on earth. The grounds include the 18th century main house, the garden cottage, the stables, and pier cottage. The land encompasses expansive lawns and lanes, an inlet, and Westcove Harbour. Friendly goats and sheep roam the the property, and adorable seals swim and bark in the harbor. Accommodations are appointed absolutely beautifully here. The main house bedrooms are decorated with period furniture and antiques that evoke 1700s Irish manor house, and the downstairs dining and sitting rooms, as well as the bar and loft area, are a mixture of modern and antique. The house is just lovely and so comfortable. A partially sunken sitting room houses a fireplace perfect for those incredible-smelling peat fires in cooler weather, and the bar area includes a fireplace as well. The stables, garden cottage and pier cottage are all outfitted in more modern decor; the stables include a large, bright, airy game room with darts, table tennis, foosball. On one of our visits, the hosts (whose cousin, Susannah Adlington owns Westcove) threw a traditional Irish ceilidh in the gameroom with a live musicians playing jigs and reels! Adding to the amazing experience of staying awhile at Westcove House is the food. Breakfast and dinner are prepared by the wonderful, friendly staff at Westcove, Katherine and Bernie (there's also the lovable Michael, the groundsman). The food is delicious and beautifully presented, family style, in the formal dining room. One year we were here for Thanksgiving -- Katherine and Bernie, obviously never having celebrated American Thanksgiving before -- did meticulous research about traditional Thanksgiving foods and prepared a spread that outdid any I've seen before! The attention to detail at Westcove House is impeccable. Westcove's location right on the Ring of Kerry makes it a perfect base for exploring southern Ireland. Cork, Shannon, Bunratty or Blarney Castle, the Skelligs, Kenmare, Cobh, the Cliffs of Moher, Waterford, Killarney Forest are all potential day trips. We've *loved* our stays at Westcove. They've been some of the best and most memorable vacations we've had. There's no better place in the British Isles.

Just gorgeous to wake up every morning and have coffee outside while taking in the beautiful bay and go for a late night (albeit cold) swim right outside your door! My other family members stayed in the other guest houses and the main house and EVERYONE was thrilled with the accommodations. The Stables is great for families, with a game room and big lawn in front for playing. The food was always delicious. How wonderful to have Jane's Bakery literally right next door so you could have fresh pastries in the morning and grab some lamb guinness pies (mmm!!) for dinner. Everything is high tech with wifi in all the houses and great kitchen equipment. Amazing sites nearby like Derryname Beach and Staigue Fort and also great day-trip accessibility to other cool destinations like Castle Donovan or The Skelligs. The pizza was also quite good and cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience all the more enjoyable. However, what truly made the evening unforgettable were the owner's stories - such good craic. His humor and anecdotes added an extra level of warmth to the already cozy atmosphere of the pub. We definitely recommend you go in whenever you're in the village.

The guesthouse features amenities like the Robert Mitchum Bar, free breakfast, beautiful lawns, and the presence of friendly Irish Wolfhounds and falcons. Gayle and I stayed here recently as part of our Essential Ireland Tour, of which I believe the owner used to be a Rick Steves Guide. We had the center room upstairs which was very comfortable and spacious, with a great view of the water and Dingle, lots of storage, and a really strong and hot shower. We really enjoyed the common spaces including the bar and breakfast room, and found staff to be really nice and helpful. The sun room breakfasts were great, as was the Irish Stew meal the last night we were here. Our tour package also included a full bag of laundry service for only 20 Euros. Location-wise, it's a short walk into town, keeping in mind the narrow bridge without sidewalk across the river. I'd only do this walk in the daytime either coming or going. And if you become stressed with that walk (or anything else), the Dingle Distillery is across the street for a tour and samples. During our walks, Gayle and I also enjoyed the tide-related river flows. Besides the Dingle Falconry experience on property (separate review), another highlight was an evening concert by 2 local members of the CUAS ensemble. In particular, we enjoyed the music and interaction with Nicole Ní Dhubhshláine (concertina, flute) and Kyle Macaulay (guitar, bouzouki). And after hearing just a taste of this vibrant and diverse West Kerry musical tradition, I went out an purchased the CD.

The room had a lovely view through the huge bay windows overlooking the sea, the bed was comfortable, and we slept very well. There was adequate closet space to store our clothes and enough convenient outlets to charge our devices. In fact, we realized we had lost one of our adapters and one of the staff members gave us one to use. We also especially loved having the Nespresso maker in our room. It was a nice touch and it made fantastic coffee. We liked the location - just a short walk to the heart of Dingle but far enough away from the noise and the busy tourist area. Every staff member I met - and I wish I knew their names - was so helpful, professional and always available. Even the dogs seemed eager to help, if only they could talk. It's obviously a well-managed hotel. One of the highlights of staying here was having a falconry experience right on the hotel grounds. There are brochures available in the hotel and they will even book it for you. Having a hawk and an owl land on your arm, holding a golden eagle at arm's length, watching a peregrine falcon hunt - these are memorable experiences that were easily accessible during our stay at this hotel. Book it quickly so you don't miss it. We had a delicious and filling breakfast every morning, cooked to order. My poached eggs were always perfect and the smoked salmon here was the best I had on this trip. It was also nice to be able to get a beer at the bar later in the afternoon and evening and sit in the lounge at the end of the day. The WiFi was much faster in the lounge downstairs anyway. The Milltown Guesthouse is one of the top places in which we were fortunate enough to stay during our Ireland and Scotland tours this summer. Anyone would be lucky to snag a reservation here. We hope to return again.

But if you're just looking for a comfortable overnight in a wonderful town, you can't go wrong here.

This B&B / guesthouse is located on the Ring of Kerry road a few steps away from the Sneem River…read morebridge, so you cannot miss it. In the neighborhood you will find plenty of pubs and souvenir shops, and the owners of the Bank House will tell you which are the best (and they really are). Bank House has beautifully furniture and decorated sitting and dining rooms. The bedrooms are very nice as well, and my bed was so incredibly comfortable. Breakfast was yummy, hearty Irish breakfast. But the best thing to mention was that, when we arrived there after hiking the whole day through the wettest day in years, the owners welcomed us and were so very helpful, taking care of drying our soaking wet hiking gear so we could walk on the Kerry Way the very next day as if we had never gotten wet. This was more than 100% Irish hospitality, and I can really recommend this place for a wonderful stay in the tourist town of Sneem.
