Super affordable coffee and donut shop at the base of an observation tower. The observation tower tickets can be bought at the cash register inside the cafe for €3 per person. I love that they have gluten-free fried munkki (cardamom donuts) for €3 a piece. They taste fantastic and my husband said they taste like the regular ones. My husband and I each had a drip coffee as well which was nice as it was chilly outside. You can eat inside or out on the patio. I wouldn't suggest eating on the tower as it's very windy and the steps to the very top level outside are quite narrow. The staff was fantastic and I was able to order in English. I'd come here just for the view. I'd come here just for the donuts ("munkki") and coffee. The combination of the two is unbeatable! Make sure to visit the observation tower (2 € fee) and take a walk in the beautiful Pyynikki nature conservation area. In addition to inside the cafe, there's seating outdoors. Tampere has two nice observation towers. This one is located west of center of town in Pyynikki Park (the other tower - the Näsinneula Observation Tower, is in Särkänniemi and has a revolving restaurant at the top). Näsinneula is nice, but this one also has amazing views and a bonus - their cafe at the base of the tower, which serves up coffee and fresh donuts made from a recipe that hasn't changed in about 80 years. (Yes, the donuts are as good as they say). Now I stayed at the Holiday Inn by the railway station, so coming to Pyynikin näkötornin was about a 40 minute walk, but it's worth the journey. On the way you get to see the top of Pyhäjärvi (lake), and the tower is surrounded by a beautiful forest. There always seems to be a line out the door for the cafe, but it moves fast, and the trip up the tower is easy, whether by lift of stairs. Worth the visit. read more

Absolutely charming little place serving doughnuts. Located at the bottom of an observation tower which unfortunately we didn't go up on this occasion, it's the perfect post walk pit stop. As it was a rainy day we were not able to sit out on the front terrace but imagine it would be lovely on a nice day to breathe in the fresh air from the surrounding trees. Big bonus to this place is that they have a vegan doughnut option which is delicious. Drinks are a selection of cold beverages from a chiller cabinet or various coffees. Loved the quirky pictures on unicorns inside too. read more

After a short and nice hike you reach this observation tower from where you get a wonderful view over Tampere and the surroundings. Going up with the elevator costs EUR2 but it's free to climb up the stairs. Check out the nice cafeteria, where you can eat what is said to be the best doughnuts in town (or even in Finland) - in summer there's also a small terrace. read more

Must stop if you're in Tampere. Hands down best "munkkit"/donuts in the world. Coffee is great and atmosphere is perfect. There's a tower to get some nice views of the area. read more
