A friendly woman greeted us upon entering and showed us what was available for the day. Very few choices, but I didn't mind what felt like a home cooked meal. I had the meatloaf w/ mashed potatoes and green beans. Absolutely delicious. The chickens running around outside and the cute farm cat were entertaining. We checked out the museum, a food spot, a few spots around town, and this (garden)? They have a ton of space and there is a thoughtful layout. The trail to walk through a forest area is probably the best thing about the place. Worth a stop? Maybe, but realize that this botanical gardens has a long way to go before it's ready for primetime. Being a smaller market, I assume it's a funding issue. There were some workers/volunteers there trying to make the place alluring and presentable. This will be an asset to Knoxville as/if it gets built out with a clear vision.

We tend to enjoy outdoor spaces, so the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum was on our itinerary for the day. Driving the short distance from downtown through residential neighborhoods, we certainly wouldn't have found the Gardens without our GPS -- and even then we questioned whether we were going the right way! Upon reaching, the plentiful parking spots were nearly full. It turns out that there was a wedding reception going on so a (relatively small) part of the gardens was closed to the public. We started in the Visitor's Center, where a very helpful staff member (or volunteer?) told us about the gardens, gave us a map, told us what areas were off-limits, and sent us on our way. Note that there are restrooms in the visitor's center. The gardens are located on 47 acres of the former Howell Nurseries, and feature walking paths, display gardens, unique and historic horticulture, and over two miles of distinctive stone walls and timeless buildings. The Garden is privately owned and operated and supported through donations and membership. Admission was FREE. We enjoyed walking around the well-maintained gardens but, given that it was already late September, there were few plants in bloom. It was a peaceful place to walk and to relax, and to enjoy a view of the Smokies in the distance. If we lived in the area, we would likely return at different times when flowers are blooming, and full likely attend some of their events. For instance, on Nov 14th, there's a class on "Forages Wreath Making", wherein participants walk around the gardens to forage for plants and materials to make a festive and natural holiday wreath.

We were given a tour with just our family which was really cool. We all really loved the tour. It was great for our son who could touch a lot of objects. They also had a table to try and write with a quill. I would recommend the mansion if you love history.

The sights and sounds of the midway will enthrall your kids no matter what age. The food is excellent and it is a great value for the experience. He paid 4 dollars for a lemonade refill and she gave him mellow yellow, and when he corrected her she refused to give him anything else. He even asked for just water and she refused. I dumped the drink out and went back to ask for the money or a lemonade and she REFUSED to help us and instead was so rude and ugly to us. She also gave my boyfriend cold and soggy fries so the food wasn't great either. She refused to help me get in contact with customers service. So disappointed with the fair staff this year. I grew up going to this fair and have a ton of memories here and for the staff to be horrible this year makes me so upset, I have had plenty of contact with people who have also had this experience this year and it's so sad to see something we loved as children become a place of frustration! If you're going to go eat I recommend literally anywhere else.

I guess I am spoiled with a hometown children's museum of play.. I am so glad we went in to give it a chance, the employees here are wonderful. Very welcoming. The exhibits are diverse and many hands on touch this or that ability. There were some dated videos of the Appalachian culture but honestly it gave it an appeal and definitely a time gone by. The exhibits and explanation of the Manhattan project were very interesting. All of us walked away learning a lot about oak ridge and that era around world war 2. We spent a good two hours in the museum and didn't read it all, we happened to be walking in right before a school group of 30 little kids and parents. Initially it was loud but there was enough space that we didn't have to be around all the chaos real little kids bring. Some of the exhibits were geared for smaller kids but our 2nd grader had no problem enjoying the experience. I mean who doesn't love a "doll house" that has two levels, For the price and exhibits I would suggest it to anyone especially if you have a history buff in your family.

When we arrived, we parked in the free and easy lot and were greeted immediately. We saw that masks as of 10/15/21 are still required within the museum (and everyone we saw was properly wearing one, both kids and adults). After paying and being given a map, we began to explore, my kids initially complaining that they were bored (ugh.). We had begun with the cultural and historical exhibits, which showed cultural elements of different countries and a section on Appalachia, complete with replicas of log cabins and interactive screens showing the lifestyle. After we left this section, the kids perked up and really enjoyed the farm store/sorting produce, the fish aquarium, the outer space room with rocket, and the microscope to view differing hair follicles. We didn't realize we went upstairs to the bathrooms that we hadn't even seen half of the museum at that point! SO many things to explore, such as a water room with a flowing water track and boats, info on origins of Secret City, Girl Scout info, music room, rain forest, a bird's nest room, puppet room (not currently interactive due to COVID), and my kiddo's favorites: the model railroad area with working train tracks, and the kid/life size doll house room. We closed out the museum and were the last people there. Not the biggest or most interactive museum we have been to, but we still enjoyed it and are thrilled that it is close to home. We ended up buying a family membership before we left, which only cost $90 for a full year. If you buy same-day, you can roll in the entry fee you already paid toward the membership cost. And don't forget to stop by the city park next door when you're done. It's a good one and has a great hill to roll down.

The art market was a rather fun place to stumble upon. It's not just an art gallery, but an actual art co op, so the people you are buying art from art actually the artists (so be careful what you say!). The people working here were super nice, and some of the art was gooorgeous. They not only have paintings, but lots of photography, sculptures (one artist seems to have a particularly odd penchant for vegetable steamers), jewelry, and clothing. The ceramics and jewelry were pretty reasonably priced. Some of the artwork was reasonable, and some both my husband and I both agreed was waaaay overpriced. I imagine since the artists determine the price for their own artwork. There was one painting which I'm now wishing I had bought. Maybe if we have a little extra money next month I'll call and see if it's still there. In any case, we did buy a ceramic vase, which we are now housing our lucky bamboo. Overall, I really liked this little art co cop, and I would gladly go back.
