I was very impressed with the dedicated professionalism in the way the staff of Purvis Funeral Homes handled my wife of 49 years funeral service. My daughter recently used this funeral home for her fathers memorial service. I was very unimpressed. They did not seem to be very helpful in the details of what she needed. Her father was retired military and I called the morning of the service to make sure they had the flag (which they told her they would provide) and they did not have it and had to scramble to get ot there in time. After the service, one of the funeral directors came to the front of the room and told everyone the service was over and they were "dismissed" - like they were in a class or something. At the initial meeting she was asked if she would need copies of the death certificate and she said she would and paid for them. After calling a time or 2 asking if they were in, she was told they had no record of her paying for them, although her receipt clearly stated she had. After that was cleared up she was informed she could go to the courthouse and pick them up and they would let the court they were paid for. In the county I live in, the funeral homes obtain the copies of the death certificate and provides them to the families. The excuse for all the mix-ups was that she dealt with Mr. Purvis and no one else seemed to know anything about what they had discussed. It was requested that donations be made to the funeral home to help with the cost. After the service we went into the office to discuss the balance owed and see about any donations that had been made and it was like pulling teeth to get them to acknowledge that a donation had been made. I just felt like my daughter was treated quite poorly and dismissed as a non-important cient. She had just lost her father and it is reprehensible that they conducted their business with her that way. read more

My 29 year old son passed away suddenly and tragically. I chose Purvis Funeral Home, for the services for my son. I was so absent emotionally, from the situation, I can't remember parts of the process. I do remember from the moment I walked into Mr. Purvis's Funeral Home, he welcomed my family and I, as if we were family to him. He is one of the nicest men, I have met in this business. He walked us through the entire process, and was present every moment for 3 days. He was never intrusive, just there when we needed him. His employees were also just as kind and professional. His selections of items that we needed were high quality, and reasonable prices. I didn't like posting that last sentence, but, we all know, when we go through this, it can become very expensive.
