The Purple Mountain Café in the heart of Dalby Forest and adjacent to the bike hire centre, is a small café offering good honest food. The walls are emblazoned with posters, direction signs, Marshall's armbands etc., from the 2010 leg of the Cross Country UCI Mountain Biking World Cup event that was held at Dalby Forest. There was also a minute TV showing death defying mountain bike races and stunts, some of them successful, some of them not! The menu detailed on a board although basic and small had some tasty dishes, including bacon and sausage sandwiches, toast with various toppings, jacket potatoes etc. Drinks wise, tea, a variety of different types of coffee, hot chocolate etc, in mugs of course! I had the very flavoursome, if completely unhealthy Nachos with chilli and cheese, just the right amount of heat. The orders for hot food, came out in a haphazard order, the door was constantly open, but this added to its charm. This was wholesome food, designed to fill you up, so you could carry on your long walk or ride around the forest; there was outdoor picnic tables too, for people who had accumulated that bit too much mud! read more
