The Purple Gallery is part of a nice clusters of shops located at the top of Mary Vale Road, and alongside the deli, butchers and florists is part of the little community feel that you get in this part of Bournville. The gallery itself is two small rooms, exhibiting a range of paintings, as well as some sculpture and quite a bit of jewellary from artists in the region. The exhibitions change regularly and the gallery holds preview events (usually on a Sunday afternoon, offering a glass of wine to those who wish to peruse at that time) for the public (you may need to get onto their email list to get information on these). I've always found it a nice gallery to pop into and see what they have on. One of the owners of the gallery is an artist himself and so often there is work by him but it does also sell work by a range of other artists. The work is for sale but they are friendly owners so you can just window shop! I haven't bought paintings here (as much as I'd love to, my budget doesn't stretch at the moment) but I have bought jewellery and cards. In the summer they open their garden and have a small cafe offering tea, cakes and sandwiches and their garden is a true oasis as it is beautifully done and they have pieces of sculpture dotted around it. read more
