Whether you're a barre elite or just a newbie looking to get in shape while having a little fun,…read morethe Refinery will welcome you in with open arms and show you the ropes! The Refinery is a barre fitness studio that has created a process called BodyREmix: Release. Revive. Retain. to help you sculpt your body in the best and fastest way possible! Their Barre Original classes are one hour low impact workouts that still target the total body. Taking a strong influence from ballet, yoga, and pilates, barre is about performing small movements to strengthen muscles that you didn't know you had! Every strength segment is followed by a brief stretch to soothe your muscles and limit soreness. On my last visit, Sheryl Webster, the instructor and the business owner, took us through a tough but fun Barre Original workout set to some upbeat music that kept you pushing through the pain! I was so glad to see both seasoned barre athletes and rookies like myself out there! I thought I was at least mildly in shape before taking the class, but I was suffering from a special level of soreness that I didn't know was possible afterwards. I can certainly attest to how good of a workout barre is! You may become addicted, since they make it hard to go back to boring ole weight lifting! Seriously, give a barre class a try!

Good vibes here Update 3/12/20 I still love it here! While it may be easy to make a first good impression, it is more difficult to sustain it and they have sustained it in all ways, earning my trust and loyalty. They are willing to work things out , respect you, and are open to receiving feedback. I think the best woman in Tallahassee can be found here! I feel happy to be a member at this place , and I plan to continually join Refinery as long as I'm in Tallahassee!

I had been essentially bed-ridden for 18 months, primarily with serious nerve damage from a fall down a long flight of steps. After many surgeries, my pain management team gave me a choice of 10 physical therapists. I stayed with my first choice for 6 months. Although highly rated, they did it "by the book" without regard to my personal situation. And it was not a private session: A physical therapist would get me started on an exercise and then get the next person started. What's more, even with medical insurance, my out-of-pocket costs were very high. Over time, I visited every place on the surgeon's list, tried some, and was eventually referred to Fit and Functional by a family member who is excellent at medical research. She recognized that Sherman and his staff had the exceptional training I needed. My situation could not be handled with a cookie-cutter approach. I have been with Fit and Functional for 10 months. First, they worked on my balance issues so I would stop falling even on a level surface. They have steadily helped me regain strength and stamina. I go twice a week and work with a private physical therapist who is terrific. I could not ask for anyone better - this includes Sherman and anyone else I've worked with. They understand MY body and what I need to do. Sherman diagnosed my lymph node problems before the medical doctors did and he adjusted my sessions accordingly. I am steadily improving and look forward to my sessions there, which, by the way, cost less than the recommended physical therapists.

I chose Club Pilates as it's a reputable chain, they were brand-spanking new, and my bad ankle needed to work on balance. I figured it was an all-around win. Unfortunately for me, all that glitters isn't gold. Yes, the gym was pristine and the manager (or is she the owner?) Hannah is a sweetheart. Heck, all the trainers are sweethearts. Ditto with the front desk. I have no issue with their human capital. My issue stems from their app. To sign up for a class, you need to use their app, and depending on what time you select for class, the class may be already full. Yes, there's a waitlist, but the odds of getting off of it are hit or miss. Oh, and if you miss a class, you are charged for it either financially if you're a full-fledged member or you lose a class if you aren't. I understand the concept of being held accountable, but having to call to explain you're in the middle of a traffic jam isn't appealing to me. I suppose what it is is simply that I was spoiled by the gym I was a member of down in South Florida. To me it just wasn't working out, it was a family. I didn't experience the same at Club Pilates, and while that's not necessarily a bad thing, that along with the fact that I'm used to more intense exercise made me cancel my membership. Ultimately I was just okay with my experience there, and if I'm paying $199+ a month for that, well... I'm better off seeing what else is out there.

She gets 5/5 stars! I loved her playlist, the energy she brought to the class, and the overall representation of another African American woman in this predominantly white space was the extra push that I needed. Because of her enthusiasm and guidance, I'll be sticking around for a bit longer and will likely exclusively do the cardio sculpt classes unless I just want a really good stretch or slow day.

Before ending the year, I had to try out Drip Drop Fitness. And I'm GLAD I did! Easy online booking…read moreof a class. I booked a 10am, 60-minute Dance Cardio Class. Driving to the studio, I started to feel butterflies in my gut because I wasn't sure I was going to catch onto the moves fast enough. But I wasn't going to let those butterflies get to me. I let my guard down and wanted to try something new!! Pulling into the parking lot, I liked how there was private parking in the front of the studio. I suggest backing into the parking spot because it would be easier to get out after class. (I personally didn't this time - but next time I will) Walking into the studio, the kick-ass vibe was immediately felt. I was greeted with a warm welcome, brief outline of what to expect, where stuff is and how everything runs. The atmosphere was pretty cool... blue neon lighting, flashing lights, music thumping and positive attitudes from everyone! The class was represented accurately. Simple dance moves with high energy cardio. Once you start forgetting about how the steps are done and get into the beats of the music, the dancing becomes second-hand movements. My motto was to have fun! And that is exactly what I did. I loved it! I recommend Drip Drop Fitness Studio because it is fun and something new! Bye Bye 2018, H-E-L-L-O 2019!
