PSA: You do need the grip Pilates socks, and you should either buy a pair in advance or you can buy…read moreone of the many options of Pure Barre socks they have in the front of the studio. Wear leggings because sometimes you'll be on your knees. It gets hot in there, and I always appreciate it when they turn the fan on. I took the free foundations class at Pure Barre in Brentwood and was immediately hooked, so I signed up for the unlimited membership for $199/month and I told myself I'd go at least 5 days a week to make it worthwhile, and so far I've been able to keep that promise to myself! Pure Barre has four different class formats, Classic for low impact & high intensity barre, Empower for cardio-centric strength training, Define for weight-based strength training, and Align for flexibility and balance. I'd say they're all difficult yet doable, but Align is the easiest of the four. The workouts often blur the line between strength training and stretching in the best way. My two favorite instructors so far are Claudia and Keani, but honestly they're all great, well trained, and going to give you a killer workout. It is so impressive how they lead the workouts, doing the exercises with you to show you the proper form while also talking you through it, and observing the class enough to let you know if you need to make any adjustments to your form to avoid potential injuries. The classes are between 45-50 minutes, but you'll need to allot additional time to get your equipment before class and wipe it down and put it away at the end, as well as changing out into your regular clothes. If you're participating in the challenges, you'll also need a few minutes after class to get your stars and stamps. Don't be late because they won't let you come into the class if you arrive more than five minutes past the start time. I love when they do themed workout days, such as Beyoncé! You can have fun with it and dress up for the class, and they play music that aligns with the theme. For the Brentwood location, it's slightly confusing to find the first time because of the construction, but it's worth it, and after that you'll always know where you're going. Park in their free underground structure (good news, they usually have a security guard) via the alley in the back, then take the stairs up from the garage, make a right, then take those stairs to the top floor, turn right again, and you'll see the sign pointing to Pure Barre. You'll shake, and they push you harder than you can push yourself, but since it's just for short amounts of time you can do it! After just a few weeks, I definitely noticed more definition and strengths, especially in my glutes and abs.

Just finished a couple of classes with our new instructor, Lindsay, who impressed me with her…read morechoreography and class management. The timing for each sequence was perfect, and transitions were organic. Both classes were well thought out. Music was also fun. Lindsay's kind and encouraging teaching style made these classes a great barre experience.

Chanda uses "table top" as a verb, which makes me smile! ************ I'm panting, perspiring and my side ribs (lats) are s little sore: always good signs. What a tough workout! This was my first visit to Physical Artistry and it will not be my last. Like the owner of my home studio, Sandpiper Pilates, Danielle is trained in the Stott style of Pilates which straddles the canyon between Classical Pilates (just the way Joe developed and taught 'em in his NYC studio) and modern physical therapy which incorporates decades of knowledge about muscles, joint, mobility and overall health. I've studied with just about all teachers: BASI, Polestar, Classical, West Coast and Stott. Stott ensures me both a strenuous workout AND safety. Danielle has a real gift for teaching. One of my classmates was a Class Pass newcomer to Pilates. To her, I say: Welcome! You lucked out. Seeing her instruct our young newbie while still giving her more experienced students a challenge was wonderful. She was serious about precise form, but still created a light hearted mood. No persnickety superior attitude at all, which is nice. Her equipment was hybrid Stott and Balanced Body, which I also like. And I got a new variation on footwork: she did two kinds of pulses: up toward the top of the range of motion and down toward the bar. Novelty is so nice when my thighs are howling. Six stars. THREE students only and I feel ready to face the day.

The Hollywood location has been my home gym for years now but discovered the Santa Monica location…read morewhen I started a new job almost 2 years ago now and it's great! This location is larger than the others so it's really spacious. At the SM location I've trained with Martine, Conrad, and Sean and, as usual, all are well trained, know their shit, pay attention, and are fantastic trainers! They keep you motivated. And it's great taking classes from different trainers because each one will give you a little tip that will land different for everyone. So something small, a slight adjustment, might change the way you do a lift for the better. Another reason I love this place. It's not cheap but it's worth it and so are you! No better $ spent than on your health!

I am a regular at the Studio City Lift Society but love visiting this location if I have to be on…read morethe Westside and love having that option. I love this gym and let me count the ways. 1. Clean facilities and everybody gets their own squat rack for an hour. Time is our most precious non renewable resource in our hectic lives. To get in a full body workout without waiting to share equipment and not spend any mental energy and time programming my workouts makes this membership a great value. 2. It's not HIIT, it's pure strength training using barbells and dumbbells. With 2-3 minutes of rest in between sets. 3. The classes are small and maybe 10 people at the most. It is more of a semi private training experience - all the attention and individualized focus of a top trainer with the social benefits of being part of a positive community. 4. Fast Results. Pure and simple. I've done it all: F45, Barry's, Orangetheory, Indoor Cycling, Hot yoga, kickboxing, etc. I am the strongest, leanest I've ever been and because my metabolism has skyrocketed by adding muscle mass, it's so freeing not to watch calories anymore.
