I was looking for an aerobatic, flight instructor for my significant other, and not realizing Mike was only in Kokomo, I called several flight schools in Indianapolis. I left several message, and no one returned by call. I called Mike, and he picked up the phone right away. He was very nice and accommodating on such short notice. He let me know he was available and the best time to arrive for the flight lesson based on the weather. When we got to the Kokomo airport and found Mike's hanger, he was very patient and generous with us. We wanted to know everything about owning a Pitts plane, and he shared everything he knew and what his costs were to own, maintain, store and operate a Pitts. He gave us so much advice and information. Then, he walked my significant other through the lesson, got him into the plane, and they took off. Mike was very careful and warned my SO about the stresses of aerobatic flying and not to overdue it because he was going to feel it, and feel it he did. SO doesn't normally have motion sickness, but he did for hours after that. Mike made the lesson so fun though that the motion sickness didn't deter my SO from signing on for more lessons with Mike. According to my SO, Mike is a very different instructor than he's had in the past. Mike has an engineering background and actually understands the mechanics of the plane and how everything works in different conditions. He's very educational, detailed and meticulous. Unlike some jock pilots, he's more of a professor type which my SO was looking for. After the lesson, we hung around some more to watch Mike's son fly. He's a competitive flyer and a pro so we got to watch a free aerobatic show. Looking to many more flying lessons with Mike!

This place was awesome. I received my Associates in Science with a major in Biology. I started with a major in Film. I changed my major a bunch of times and was always able to receive great help from the counselors for this and many other things. I had a lot of great classes here at Parkland and some really, really challenging ones as well. Don't listen to those ignorant individuals who say that community college is somehow lesser than unversities. I had really hard courses and there were a ton of UIUC students who took classes at Parkland because it was cheaper and you got taught by a real teacher and not a noob TA. Like tessa said, there are some bad apple teachers that you will get with any school. Unfortunately due to tenure or just uncaring of admin, serious issues with teachers seem to go unchanged. The online classes were awesome. I was able to still be enrolled in school, while being able to access information and work on homework/projects and take exams at my convenience. This allowed me to be employed full time during school to make money. The science department was no short of amazing. Labs were well equipped with well enough materials for everyone and we were afforded many great learning opportunities (ie: dissecting a cow's eye, messing around with a real sheep heart, separating our own DNA from saliva). And the cadavers! Oh man. Apparently Parkland has more cadavers than most community colleges in the nation, so that's pretty sweet. There were always enough out on display to study with and if you wanted to see them during off times, usually a teacher in the lab could take you there and let you mess around with them. They did smell horribly of Phenol and you couldn't eat anything for awhile after studying on them because the smell permeated your sinus cavity for a couple hours. I remember distinctly eating a muffin after studying and being able to still smell the Phenol while eating. I threw my cadaver muffin away and thought I was going to be sick. haha Almost all of the science department teachers were amazing, especially Mrs. Burkhalter. She is one of my favorite teachers of all time. She was very enthusiastic, funny, organized and informative. It got to the point where students were asking HER their personal medical questions instead of their doctors. When she was emailed random biology/science questions, she would post said questions and the answers on a running powerpoint before class started just for additonal info for the class. And if she didn't know the answer to something, she would look it up! I hear this place also has a fantastic nursing program and dental program. I chose this place over UIUC on purpose. I love the campus and the small classroom atmosphere. The cafeteria was alright, but I've heard that that has been significantly changed for the better since then. The art shows were always pretty cool and the planetarium light shows were interesting. Graduation was fun and they did make it feel special at Krannert. Though I was a little annoyed that we couldn't go somewhere bigger so that I could invite ALL of my family and friends and not be limited to only bringing 4 people. :o/ The tuition rates are much preferable to UIUC's and I saved a lot of money going here rather than to UIUC or some other university. I would say many people should get their Associates at Parkland and then transfer onto a university for their bachelors. Although I had a friend who was told many of her classes would transfer over to UIUC and be okay for her program when it turns out they were not and she ended up having to take a crapload more courses to make up for this. So just be warned and informed. All in all, I highly recommend this school. It was very good to me. :o)

You get what you pay for which is a quality education whether you plan on continuing on to uni or an Associate's degree. Math department is a little weak. Biology, nursing school, and the photography department were very good to me. Last time I set foot, they tore down the cafeteria. I hope they put something good in its place, like real food or something equally beneficial. I also like their art shows: they always have decent shows in the gallery. The Prospectus is also a good newspaper to work for and read; at least it was when I was there. The editor and most of the staff has since left.
