We would have an appointment with our physician but end up seeing a nurse practitioner due to overbooking or other reasons unknown before we arrived. My husband and I were both hospitalized within two months of each other. We went to Caldwell Hospital in Lenoir via the emergency room both times. We each had a condition that should have been diagnosed months before but was not. My husbands stay lasted eight days. Mine lasted three! We were referred to Dr. Aaron Goodwin at Robbins Medical Park. What a blessing. The office staff is very attentive. Our calls are always taken. We are called back right when needed. Our appointments are scheduled in a timely manner. They also have an urgent care At the same facility. We have been his patients for almost two years. We are still very pleased.

The PAs and Doctors routinely run at least an hour behind schedule, usually longer than that. After the already-sick patient has had to endure waiting in the too-small, too-loud bacteria-laden waiting room (It feels as though you're stewing in germ-ridden air) long enough to contract at least two more illnesses (Is this on purpose? I can't prove otherwise...), they're then eventually called back by an impatient go-betweener who asks private questions and weighs them publicly, and then they're finally taken back to a boring, run-down, overly-Christianized storage/waiting room and left to hope they don't die while wasting up to another hour waiting for someone to remember that they're there. The PAs and Doctors in this establishment might be nice for all I know, but as I've only ever been in the presence of one for less than 10 minutes at a time, I wouldn't know. Questions are asked but not enough time is ever allowed for the patient to actually ANSWER those questions - the answers which might actually tell the PA/Doctor what is truly wrong with the patient. The PA/Doctor then makes an apparently telepathic diagnosis which is neither discussed with nor truly revealed to the patient (the patient being the one who actually has to live with the PA/Doctor's off-the-cuff "diagnosis") and then the patient is sent on their disease-ridden way with no information, newly acquired viruses, and Rx's for expensive and potentially inappropriate drugs. I'm not sure what the PAs and Doctors actually do at this establishment. They're obviously not spending time with the patients.

CMS now requires every hospital to post a machine readable file showing list prices, cash discount prices and payer negotiated rates for all services & procedures. Instead the UNC's Caldwell Memorial Hospital has a consumer interface that has some of this information but a user needs to scroll through one procedure at a time - see https://www.unchealthcare.org/about-us/billing-and-financial-assistance/chargemaster/. The interface isn't searchable, sortable, or consumer friendly in any way. What is UNC Hospital hiding? Other hospitals in the area show prices, so why wouldn't UNC want to show prices to help patients understand what to expect? Are they perhaps charging too much compared with the other hospitals in the area?

They ask repeatedly for the patient's social security number and date of birth within earshot of the entire waiting room and they had me electronically sign paperwork that I didn't get to read before signing nor get a copy of afterward. Well unless if you're homeless and smear your own poop on the walls... then I guess you'll fit right in. They refused to follow the law when my partner asked for the 72 hour evaluation release form. At first the social worker Kim said she never requested it, when we requested it at check in at the ER, then again after they strip searched them, and then finally when I threatened with lawyers to bring it out and let her sign it during visitation hours. She then proceeded to question why would they want to sign these papers when they get here... she then went to "check" and then came back and told me that the papers were presented to them but they refused to sign them... when I said that's nonsense she said well when she came in she wasn't in her right mind so how would she know. This sent me into an absolute RAGE. This all made sense after I get to the next part of the story. They didn't spend anytime diagnosing my partner for the real illness they just blanket drugged them up with five medications. Medications that actually HURT someone and induce psychosis in someone with their condition. It's almost like they wanted my partner to stay ill... which made sense when I spoke with Bryan Robinson. If this man is on yours or your loved ones "care team" request someone else, or ask for your conversations to be recorded. We read reviews online and this man's name popped up with another review of someone saying that Brian lied about what was said in his weekend check in, which lead to them staying there longer. After speaking with him I believe it. This man's first comment to me was "I don't do discharges on the weekends" when in fact that weekend there was someone who was discharged... this man spent the time he was supposed to be evaluating my partner, actually arguing with them and trying to make them retract their request for the 72 hour evaluation form that was just signed. Comments like do you know what this form is?, why do you want to sign it? You know that this doesn't mean you will leave in 72 hours the doctors all here decide when you leave, why would you ask to sign this if you came here for help. Such disgusting behavior for someone who is supposed to have yours or your loved one's life in their hands. What a power trip. It all made sense when I started digging in and asking more questions of the staff. There was a homeless person that checked in AFTER my partner who was smearing his own poop on the walls. This person was released a day before my partner... when I was there for visitation a nurse laughed and said "well yeah that's because y'all have good insurance and he doesn't, we turn those people loose asap". UN FREAKING BELIEVABLE The worst part about all of this was they claimed the need to keep my partner longer when I brought all this up was because they "changed their medicine" and needed to monitor them. So when they finally did discharged them, they only sent them home with 2 of the five medications they were giving them the entire time they were in patient. Which if you know anything about mental health medications you can't just STOP cold turkey. it can send you into physcosis. It's almost like they were wanting to set my partner up for failure. When I brought all this up to UNC administration they decided to do an investigation... of course they "investigated themselves and they did nothing wrong and provided adiquit care" but the best part... THE BEST PART... they sent this letter of their investigation with the WRONG NAME It wasn't even my partners name at the top of the letter...so how can you say you investigated anything when you couldn't even get the name at the top of the letter right. This place is an absolute joke and I would never recommend this place. They said they were sorry for not presenting the 72 hour form when my partner and I requested it, they "retrained staff", they said Brian was just trying to make sure my partner "understood the form they were signing" and didn't mean to intimidate them, which is funny because when he called me at my request he was an absolute power trip and incredibly unprofessional. So I believe my partner. If you made it this far I'm glad. Don't go here for help. Simple as that.

Absolutely horrible. My step daughter had her gallbladder taken out and she had to stay over…read morenight.
