Beautiful landmark in the historic center of Cordoba. I took a tour of the city and it started right here. The Roman bridge of Córdoba is located over the Guadalquivir river as it passes through Córdoba, and connects the Campo de la Verdad neighborhood with the Cathedral neighborhood. It is also known as the Old Bridge, since it was the only bridge that the city had for twenty centuries, until the construction of the San Rafael Bridge in the mid-twentieth century. The bride was renovated in 2008. Since 1931, the bridge, together with the Puerta del Puente and the Calahorra tower, has been declared an asset of cultural interest. it is part of the historic center of Córdoba, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. read more

Our Tour bus stopped here just for 30 mins, and so I enjoyed walking around the lovely banks of the river, and being a sucker for Roman Ruins, walking onto the bridge just sent chills down my spine, with how old it was. The place is a mix of touristy and local and I saw a lot of youngsters necking around - def seems to be a popular local spot for tweens to hangout at! If I had more time, I would have chosen to picnic here (and in fact I did see some families doing that) as it was a lovely view with refreshing breeze coming of the river. One of the most romantic bridges I have ever seen! What a pity that I visited it alone, as this is the kind of place where any woman could not reject a great hug and some kissing! I was very jetlagged last Sunday when I arrived but didn't want to miss walking all the way to the tower, as I haven't seen this Roman bridge since childhood and now is all remodeled and beautifully illuminated. Not to miss it at night, is so enchanting, plus you can see the cathedral /mosque standing so magically. The Saint Raphael sculpture with candles at night confers even more charm and you see here all kind of nice people, locals and tourists alike, many lovers as well as families with their children, very harmonic. read more

As far as old historical sites go, this one's alright. Not too exciting, I mean it's just a bridge, but it does have a lot of history. The bridge connects the historic district with another part of the city, I forget which. On the historic district side of the bridge is a large arch with columns and other Romanish things. At the other end is an old tower turned into a museum. In the middle of it is this statue of an angel with a little altar in front of it. Sorry, I've forgotten all the info I've learned, but it's pretty cool. There's also some ruins of old water mills at the other end of it, which are worth walking around for a bit. read more
