This is a premiere place for garden lovers' and people who just love beautiful spaces. The Royal Horticultural Society knows how to craft a garden or two and this is no exception. It's like a not so secret Secret Garden with delectable flower displays, a mass of planting and thoughtful and provoking gardening techniques. And this is someone infusing who manages to kill cacti. They also try to blend in to the surroundings and have more than a passing consideration for the environment and how to sustain it. The relatively new Alpine Zone introduces loads of species to the visitor and they also have an Education Centre where you can find out about a wealth of plant related topics. Also check out the website regularly to see what events are heading to the centre. A real gem and an absolute must for anyone who has even stepped into a garden, let alone adores them.

So, the things that I've enjoyed in this place since the beginning of the year: Christkindlemarkt (which I wish was a Yorkshire Christmas market), Leeds Loves Food, Curry Festival, Wimbledon, 2.8 hours later, and many a sunny sit. I love that the area is constantly in flux, depending on the weather and season, and used in interesting ways. I completely missed the Leeds beach, like a fool, but I heard it was really interesting. I'm not sure I'm brave enough for ice skating, but I'll give it a go given a little nudge. (Last time I was swarmed by childs and ended up holding on to the edge in fear.) It's conveniently got a cash point for the spendage. There's even the Carriageworks, right there, if you want some theatre. Basically, often you might simply walk on through, but occasionally you'll have a wonderful time here. And I love it!

The building, an old gentleman's club (not of the lap dancing variety...) is steeped in history and still has pretty much all of the original features to it. A major talking point is the men's toilets believe it or not, which even still has all of the old block wooden toilet seats & a shoe polishing point in the corner. By all standards I think the cost for hiring a part of the club for a function is pretty reasonable, and they can also cater for your event based on your budget but don't expect a lot of food for the money here. The prices on the bar itself are actually (surprisingly) on the cheap side - all the times I've been in they've had a couple of drinks offers available so I only ended up paying around £2.50 a pint! They do some of their own individual events here so I would definitely suggest checking it out sometime. You won't be disappointed with the venue space.

The drinks selection was ok and fairly standard but there were some great local beers on - my dad and myself especially enjoyed the 'Maid Marian' hoppy beer! The food on offer was typically pub (basically crossing every type of food across the world and back again...) but the fish and chips were great, salmon looked tasty and my dads linguine hit the spot. Most mains were under a tenner. Overall a great place to visit and I'd happily go back again tomorrow!

Probably because harrogate is such a resplendant destination and partly due to the location, this venue sees many conferences and fairs throughout the year. You'll even find political parties meeting there. See get me going all political on your ass. Maybe seeing politicians isn't high on your need to do list and I don't blame you, but some of the other events it pulls are definitely worth looking out for. The events are mainly trade affairs but they cover such eccletic and varied subject matters that this could be ideal for you in terms of your job or even interests. It covers everything from nursery fairs and medicine to brokers. In terms of public shows it also puts on a big bertha of an antiques fair several times a year. Not the most sexy of reviews but one that needed to be done none the less. Excellent facilities and an important place of business in the north.

There were enough toilets, and they even converted one of the gents' into a ladies' because there were only about 4 men in the whole place. And they were staff. There was a fashion show in the Royal Hall, which is absolutely stunning. The stained glass windows are beautiful, and the whole place oozed opulence, which is what you'd expect from somewhere in Harrogaté (pronounced Harrow-jittay if you're Hot Steve or me). The staff were all incredibly patient and helpful, particularly as their workplace had been taken over by hundreds of ladies determined to immerse themselves in sewing and knitting and patchwork and beading and all things crafty. A great venue, and I'll definitely keep an eye on other events here now.
