I have been shopping at this location for years, and have been using their app to pay whenever I go through checkout. Publix was light staffed today, so I helped bag and load my cart. At one point I stopped bagging to swing to the other side of counter, scan my app, and pay. I did just that and received confirmation that the "scan was complete". I was then asked if I needed help out to load the groceries to my car, which I declined. 2 minutes later 2 workers approached me informing me that I had not paid for my groceries. I explained that I had paid on the app and received a notification that the scan completed. I went to my inbox as proof of receipt, which was not there. So, I assumed they were correct and that my payment did not go through. Disgruntled, I put my groceries back in my cart and walked back inside to pay. The person behind the counter was extremely short and I did not appreciate her tone. I pulled my app again, scanned the QR code to pay, and showed her proof that it had gone through. I explained that I also received this same notification through check out my first time. She told me to "stop yelling at her". I looked at her crazy because I wasn't yelling at all, as I had not raised my voice, but instead just explaining that I had also paid before and received confirmation through the app. The first person I initially checked out with looked new, so my thinking is he wasn't sure how to handle the "pay by app" at checkout and may have declined it unintentionally. And because I always have my receipt emailed to me and was asked if I needed help out to my car, I left assuming the payment went through. Instead of accepting the customers reason and listen, I was treated like a shoplifter (even after I came back to resolve the matter), and was scolded for yelling (when I didn't) and called rude. I'm extremely upset by the way I was treated. I'm sorry that my first transaction did not go through. I was not aware that it had not as I always receive receipts via email. It is upsetting this matter was not handled better in store considering the circumstances. read more

Her reply...No, it just looks that way because of the grains. LOLOLOLOL. Does she think customers are stupid? I was buying Italian Five Grain Bread at Publix when she was being potty trained. There was a woman in the bakery department loading cookies onto a display tray, wearing her mask around her chin. When she saw us watching her, she touched her face and mask WITH THE SAME HANDS SHE WAS LOADING THE COOKIES WITH to put the mask back on her face, and then asked us if she could help us. No thank you. Not with this nasty hands! And then she went right back to loading cookies on the display tray! Yuck I would give this place zero stars if I could. We won't be back. read more

Spartanburg was recently hit by hurricane Helene. My family and I have been without power going on 7 days now. I've recently visited East Main Street Publix to purchase ice and juice. You could only get two per household. Not a problem. Completely understood. My Parents had too much debris in their yard to even safely walk outside being that they're senior citizens. So I don't mind taking the risk to walk in their yard to make sure my parents have what they need as they were without power themselves. I told my 17 years old son to purchase two bags of ice for my parents while I purchase two bags for us. It was two separate transactions. I used my card and my son used his Apple Pay. While I was scanning my ice and five jugs of juices, Fran, watched me like a hawk. To the point she even stood by my cart making sure I scanned everything. Mind you I shop at Publix every week. I purchase all of my children birthday cakes from here and I shop online using their delivery services when I'm unable to make it to the store. I've never had an issue at Publix until I met Fran. I politely asked Fran why did she find it necessary to stand over me and not anyone else that was in line. The store was packed more than normal due to everyone trying to get things they need to survive the power outage. Fran said she stood over everyone just to provide assistance. No she didn't. I watched her even after I purchased my items and moved out the way. She did my son the same way but she did not stand over anyone else at the self checkout line. When she found out that he was with me, she was very nasty in saying we can only get two bags per household. The look of disgust on her face pissed me off. As I told her, the two I purchased were for my household and the other two my son purchased were for my parents. She said it doesn't matter, you should've just purchased two and had the audacity to roll her eyes. I was livid! She stayed to the front to argue with me but she didn't find it necessary to stand over anyone else's cart "to provide assistance" since we got out of line. The only difference between my son and I and the other shoppers that we're currently scanning their items is the color of our skin. I've never encountered racial profiling in Publix until I met Fran. She was very argumentative, loud and rude when I confronted her. She told me that she never said I was stealing and maybe my conscience was guilty because I assumed she felt that way. The audacity! Like I told Fran, verbally you don't have to say anything but your actions, your body language speaks louder than anything. All Black people do not steal. I work hard for what I have and I pay every time I shop. If I don't have the money then there's no need for me to be in the store. I've been a valued customer for years and to be treated disrespectfully because of how I look is not a great representation of Publix and their core values. I'm a hardworking woman and mother. To deal with the devastation of hurricane Helene, the aftermath of being without power for so long, trying to survive and make the best of each day because we're still blessed to be alive, is a lot mentally, physically and emotionally. Everyone is trying to pull together to help each other but yet Fran looks at people of color as being thieves. I know the city is running around chaotic and people are truly in need of the daily essentials but we all aren't out here trying to steal just to get it. I love this store. It is always clean and well stocked, and the employees are amazing.

It's either this, Ingles, Bi-Lo, Food Lion, or (gulp) Walmart. Publix so far has been the place to be. Bakery: The selection is limited, but tasty. The Italian bread is simply your average white bread. The Chicago Italian bread is the same but without sugar. I am without an oven here so I bought brownies- they are the moistest, I-think-I-just-got-a-cavity brownies. I was hoping to find some pre-done garlic bread as I am working without a kitchen and very limited resources, but they do not this. Deli: There is a wide selection of meats and cheeses to pick from and I was impressed with the pre-done selection. The only thing really missing for me were mini-mozzarella balls. The really tiny ones. I am sure I can ask and maybe some can be ordered. You can also pick up tea in this section- our favorite is the diet green tea. Sweet enough for us. Produce: I am still in sticker shock at the price of produce here (meaning the state, not the store). Overall, the selection was okay which is sad because I like to do most of my shopping in the produce department. The organic section was there, but sad. Dairy: This Publix has a huge selection of organic and dairy alternatives which is great. Publix brand yogurt is not too shabby and I am picky! Beverage: You cannot buy beer on Sunday in South Carolina. Didn't I look like a dweeb when the teller schooled me. Overall- the selection is good with several imports and domestics and the prices are right. The wine selection is pretty basic, but doable. I like Publix brand items and have been impressed with the 'foreign foods' selection. However, not being from the South some of the items in the regular aisles come across as being foreign. The staff is friendly and do not hassle you about bringing in your own bags. They also have a plastic bag recycle program which is nice to see in a place consumed with Styrofoam use. There is also a Fresh Market right around the corner which helps to supplement some items on my usual shopping list. read more

Have not shopped here due to poor mask compliance and elected to shop today after someone said they were doing a good job. Horrible customer service. Waited in line 15 minutes and some cashier had trouble with WIC The manager came. Over and never offered to help me put all groceries back in buggy and get in another line. She was extremely rude and Ms. J needs to be retrained in customer service!!!!!! read more

I am a HUGE fan of Publix, as I became a fan during my time at USF in the late 90's. However, if I could give a negative rating on here this would win the prize. This location is an embarrassment to the entire Publix brand. Every single time I've gone here, it has been a horrible experience. The employees are a conglomerate of America's worst- attitude, helpfulness and every category I can think of with the exception of 1 person- Julie. I've been waiting since October 2018 for a special order for a white balsamic vinegar. OCTOBER!!!!! Needless to say, it will never arrive because they're incompetent. And every single time we have gone in there to order a fresh sub, there has been an issue. They're out of bread. They don't have meat prepped, (this is laughable, as they can reach into their selections of meat and cut it right there), they don't have any veggies ready, and of course don't let anyone interrupt the ENTIRE deli & bakery staff while they are showing off their newly donned tattoos. And to make matters worse, I'd like to personally tell everyone that their male Bakery Manager is despicable! Not only did he not want to do his job, he taught my 4 year old a new curse word. Yes, you heard me correctly and I am beyond livid at this worthless human being allowed to even be an employee anywhere. After searching for someone, anyone to help us he slothed out and said loud enough for everyone to hear, "Give him whatever he wants and don't charge him for the goddamn subs." I have never been so appalled at anyone's behavior, and to speak to customer's in this manner is reprehensible. No one deserves to be treated, or talked to in this manner. There are many other reasons why I think this location needs to be overhauled by corporate, but this tops the cake. If I ever spoke to someone like this, I would be fired. And deservedly so. Now we are left to do damage control with our toddler, and explain to other people why he's using profanity. Complain to the Store Manager, you say? Yeah, we're pretty sure that this mysterious "Store Manager" doesn't exist. NO employee has ever known where he/she is at, when they'll be in and I've never had my calls returned. EVER. Trust me, this is not how Publix runs it's stores. I'm so mad that we've decided that we will no longer patronize this location and I will personally go out of my way to see that everyone in East Spartanburg never shops there. We'll do all of our shopping at a Greenville location until this disaster of a store is completely revamped and this Bakery Manager is fired! Update: It's been 10 days since I filed an official complaint, and was told they would get back to me within 48-72 hours. I've heard absolutely nothing at all. How rude and unprofessional. I'm shocked that corporate office has been so blasé about such a horrific experience and behavior of an employee. Sad! read more

I really miss Publix. Try to make it here every month to get the fresh baked breads. I don't know what it is about theirs but I just can't find anything close. The Chicago hardrolls and the 5 grain wheat is the best. The store is super clean, the staff super friendly and always worth the drive from N.C. In my opinion the Publix brand foods are just as good as name brands including the deli, ice cream , chip, and sodas. read more

The Pharmacy never opens on time. 9am is the posted opening time. I was there at 9;15 this morning and some people waiting in line said they was running late. I came back at 9:30 and they were 15 people standing in line waiting for them to open. Its not the first time! Ongoing problem. I know now that 9:00 really means 10:00 or later. read more

I have recently had an accident so I have been unable to shop normally, but Publix is the only store in town that would help me reaching items I was unable to get to, carrying purchases to my car and everything they could possibly do to help me. My only wish is that there was a store closer since I drive from Boiling Springs to the East Side of town. I have occasionally shopped at the Duncan store, but they are not nearly as nice and helpful. Not pleased with Publix. Stopped in last Saturday looking for rhubarb and asked. Talked to produce manager and requested some. Told he'd order and have in Tuesday. Best supermarket on the east side of town. Could use a remodeling, starting to look quite dated. Staff is friendly and helpful. Meats are fresh and good. Check expiration dates, though, as occasionally I'll find expired items still on the shelf, especially bread, precooked bacon, etc. read more

The deli meat is wonderful and great quality however the service has gone down hill. I have been a huge fan of ordering online and have chosen to do this in the past rather than wait in huge lines. The problem has become the online orders are not being completed in time. I have found myself waiting for over thirty minutes on something I ordered hours ago. I have even had to go to the counter and wait in line to point out that I need my order. This is ridiculous!!! read more
