My experience with Public Storage was absolutely horrible from almost day 1. The very first day my wife and I rented the unit, the communication was terrible. We attempted to complete our reservation at the kiosk and was unable to. Once we finally complete our reservation we received our code almost immediately for the gate, we got through the gate and tried to enter the climate control build (which is what we rented) and was unsuccessful because we were provided the wrong code for that door. So we had to go back up to the kiosk and talk with someone there to get the right code, after that we finally got into our unit, and there was a massive hole in the ceiling, so that night I call the property manager and left a message, didn't receive a call back for 3 days. Once I finally received a call back they stated that I'd have to be there to let them in to see the hole, which makes sense however we weren't able to find a time that would work for the two of us. That's fine as well, we finally found a time after playing phone tag for 2 days. I got there and attempted my code for the gate and the gate was telling me I had the wrong code. So I go to the office and speak with the manager, tell them what's going on and they go on to tell me I'm entering the wrong code (the code I was entering was the same one that worked the first day we had the unit.) they tell me they don't know how I got the other code and give me the correct code for the gate. I'll be honest that this point my wife and I had decided we were going to use a different storage company any way, however I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt and see what they had to say about the hole in the ceiling. So we finally make it to the unit, I open the door and they go "oh I knew about that and told the other manager not to rent this unit out. They just didn't listen there a fucking stupid". I was so over it at this point that I asked for us to just schedule a move out for right then and there and luckily the manager that was there was very understanding and was profusely apologizing that they were short staffed and they were in the process of switching over to the kiosk system and that it wasn't working well. I let them know I completely understand but that it just wasn't going to work due to an array of issues and concerns my wife and I had. She understood and refunded us the nearly $30 they charged us for a lock and immediately closed out our account for that unit and "moved" us out that same day. read more

When I show up to the place the gate is gone and people are just driving in and out no accountability my unit is damaged place looks run down, but I just drove 1300 miles will look for a new place, the only thing good is the price now I see why!!!! read more

I'm gonna have to agree with the other reviews. I reserved an inside unit here, went to look at it at around noon and let the guy helping me know I had to figure out if it was going to be big enough. He indicated that I had it reserved until the next day at noon and to let him know by then. A few hours later I received a voice message saying he had rented the unit to someone else that came in. Oh well, there are so many other storage facilities in the area to argue with them, so I took my business elsewhere. read more

Commerce Township has been my favorite Storage Unit by far! The staff is super helpful and responsive. I especially appreciated how clean they kept the hallways and drive in for loading/unloading. Wish all storage units were kept this nice! read more

Not everyone should work in customer service!! I called this location at 3:30pm and left a voicemail stating I would be in after work about 5:30pm to rent a unit. After speaking to a lady numerous times before she said this wouldn't be a problem as long as I gave an hour notice. I get to the location and an older gentleman is behind the counter talking to an employee and/or customer over the phone, so I waited. When done I let him know I left a voicemail at 3:30pm stating that I would be in today to rent a unit as I had an older reservation but didn't have time on my original day after my move to make it in. With an attitude he said he didn't have a voicemail and that I didn't make a reservation. So to make sure I repeated back the number I called (which was correct) and told him my reservation number. He then told me it was 20 minutes until they closed and it would take 30 minutes to get everything signed. REALLY!! I was so upset and bothered by his attitude I just walked out and said I'd find a better location. I've worked in customer service all my life and was a waitress all through college, never once did I turn someone down for business unless it was AFTER hours and I still didn't give them an attitude. I'm sorry you'd have to work maybe 10 minutes over your shift on a Tuesday. My car was even packed and ready to be unloaded in the unit. Update - I spoke to management & worked with Robin (on hall Rd) and Justin (14 & Masonic) while looking for a climate control unit. Even though I had a bad experience at first they were very helpful! I had a great experience at this Public Storage facility. Leah was fantastic and I couldn't be more appreciative. Only there for a few months, but much to say in regards to a fantastic review. On day 1 I broke my lock on my outside (already promo discounted) outside storage unit. Thank goodness Leah was still there a few minutes after hours to help me out. She did not hesitate to take the time after hours to move me inside to provide a unit that was same sized and ready to go (and no, did not even mention raising my rate for it). Now that's customer service! I definitely could not have had one more thing go wrong with that day or I would have just cried! The grounds and the units are safe, secure and very clean! Although I had a promotional rate, the normal rates for Public Storage compared to others is pretty darn good! Leah and the staff here also know their business well and are willing to help at the drop of a dime - answering questions and making sure they are available at all times for any of your needs. A+++ Knowledge and love of the job is pretty apparent and was definitely respected in my time of need! Checking out of the unit was not in the least bit a hassle either. I was thanked for my stay and welcomed back at any time. If I ever need a storage place again, I will definitely make the trip to this one! Thank you so much!!!!! read more

Made an online reservation for a 10x15 unit. Received a phone call within just a few minutes confirming they had the unit I requested available, and that they would hold it for me for five days. Showed up two days later with a truck full of stuff to move in and was told they didn't have any of the 10x15 units available. What's the point of making a reservation if it doesn't actually reserve you a unit? Asked for the larger size for the same price since they didn't have what they told me, and they refused, saying I would need to go to another Public Storage facility. read more

I wish I never rented storage space through Public Storage on Hall Road in Clinton Township. None of the staff here seem to have the slightest clue as to what they're doing. I reserved a unit online, and scheduled an in-person appointment to come in and handle all of the paperwork. When I got there, the woman behind the desk was the same woman who scheduled my appointment over the phone. She acted as though she had no idea who I was, and further indicated that I was an hour early for my appointment but that she could "try to work me in". She then proceeded to inform me that I was no longer able to transfer my small unit into a large unit, since I had reserved the large unit online. I reminded her that we had a detailed discussion over the phone as to what my intentions were, and that during our conversation she indicated it would not be an issue. She remained adamant that I could not transfer the unit without losing the online price. I was tired of arguing with her, so I simply rented the second unit with the intention of just moving out of my smaller unit completely. I did however have to purchase a second lock since I was no longer transferring units. At the end of my appointment, another customer walked in. Instead of finishing up with my new account and taking me out to the unit like she was supposed to, she proposed that I now wait while she set up this new customer with an account. This was a highly unreasonable and unprofessional request and I declined. She then told me I could come back some other time to install the lock on my new unit myself if I didn't feel like waiting. That is exactly what I did - however, she failed to inform me that if the lock was not immediately installed on the unit then Public Storage would consider that unit 'moved out of' and rent it to someone else. These people blew up my phone demanding that I return immediately to install a lock (on my EMPTY unit), spoke to me like I was an idiot, and treated me as if I had done something horrific. When I finally returned to install the lock, I discovered that the unit door was faulty. I had to spend a good 45 minutes (that I DID NOT HAVE) with another staff member trying to fiddle with this lock to get it to work. It finally did work, but only when you install the lock improperly and leave it half sticking out. And naturally, they had no other units of this size available, and no other solutions or suggestions for me other than to Jerry-rig this unit. Following the move into this larger unit, the phone calls never stopped. I have been receiving multiple phone calls each week regarding my account and my bill. These people literally called me 11 days before my bill was even due with an ATTITUDE wondering when exactly I was going to come in and pay. When I reminded them of the actual due date and the correct payment amount there was no apology, just more attitude. They continued to call several times after that (still way before my scheduled due date) wanting to know why I hadn't yet paid and when I planned on paying. These people are ridiculous, they're rude, and they have no clue what is going on. I am surprised this location can even remain in business. I cannot WAIT to close on my house and move everything out of this storage unit. I will NEVER return to this, or any other Public Storage location for any reason. read more
