We were scouting the Ferry Terminal because we were planning on taking the Ferry to San Francisco…read morein a couple of days. We wanted to see the location, parking and the area in general. We had the Princess with us and as we were leaving mapped out the nearest dog park. Lo and behold, it was right next door! It's not a huge park but there's enough room to throw a ball and run around in. Parking is one the rocks right in front of the gate on Main Street. I suppose you could also park in the Ferry Terminal parking lot although I'm not sure if that's okay or not. There are two entrances to the park. The main entrance on Main Street has a dual gate entrance while the entrance on the Ferry Terminal side is a single gate. Dual gates are my preference because it adds a layer of safety should one gate accidentally not latch properly. We found a couple of dog toys and there were several bowls with water. There were also numerous gallon jugs with water in them. There is no water fountain nor restroom onsite, so it appears that other pet parents are taking empty jugs and filling them. The encampments and motorhomes that other wrote about in 2022 and 2023 are no longer there, so the area feels relatively safe.

Biggest problem is that it is difficult to get to assuming your not living nearby. Alameda is such a drag to drive around in - I'd say its almost as bad as downtown San Francisco in terms of driving 1 mile will cost you 12 minutes. Lots of stop signs and tiny narrow streets. Crowded feeling. Your dog will love it. If he is cooped up in a tiny apartment there is space to run. Also important for your dog to socialize and do some flea swapping with the next dog. They love that.

Most humans are pretty chill and responsible, but like with any dog park,…read morethere are some people who just don't look after their dogs and don't pick up their poop and let them just be jerks. Follow the directions of the signs - follow the weight limit (don't care if your big dog is good with small dogs, there is a reason we seek a small dog haven, some small dogs get extremely anxious around big dogs), no kids under 8 (and don't get mad at the dog or the owner if your young child can't handle being jumped on or barked at. It is a DOG park). Plenty of water, no poop bags but there are pick ups scoopers so if you run out, you'll still be able to pick up your dog's poop if you don't have bags with you. Great group of regulars. Most dogs and humans have a great time!

Looking on a map, it would be near 8th St & Portola Ave. Exact address is 1300 8th St. I haven't seen other dog parks, so I don't how this one compares. I've been here a few times with a friend with a small dog. Also, I walk by alot as it's near the sidewalk. The Dog Park is one huge fenced in area, and a separate smaller area for small dogs. It's sand, grassy areas with some trees. There's water and some places to sit. I think it's cool that ARPD set up this dog park. (ARPD- Alameda Recreation And Park Department)

A nice place to play with your dog…read more Watch out for Foxtails in the center area of the park. Be cautious of Cliques. It turns into gossip fests. A couple of Yenta's are in the daily mix. Also an abundance of den Mothers. Watch where you step, not everyone picks up after their dog. I also recommend walking around the park before you throw a ball for your pooch. There are many holes in the sand/dirt and a dog in a full run can break a leg. And so can his human. If you know where those holes are , you can pick a smoother spot. Plenty of water available Parking is easy but the tree's send off a light spray of sap. Easy to wash off. Have fun, and enjoy Alameda. It is a great place. Remember drive 25.

This is by and far the biggest and best dog park in the East Bay. IT'S HUGE! Within comfortable driving distance from home through quaint northern Alameda, the park boasts two sides, depending on the size of your four-legged cuddle monster. Inside, the place is decked out generously with chairs and picnic tables galore. In fact, I had a picnic birthday party for one of my dogs a few years ago inside the large park, and family and friends were able to bring their furry companions for a day-long frolic at the park. It was great! If you're looking for a place to take your little (or giant) ones for a couple hours while you sit back and relax while they have their day, think about coming here. Then afterwards, enjoy a lovely stroll along the beach at Crown Memorial State Beach right behind the dog park. There's no better way to end your fun filled day.

One of the cleanest & nicest dog parks I've stumbled upon so far in my search of the best dog park…read morein SF. This park is well maintained and the poop bags (if needed) stands at each two entrances/exits and one by the water fountains in the middle are always refilled! A table and benches along the paved walking path for humans to sit and watch dogs play. There's water fountains in the middle of the park which is nice for pawrents that forget to bring water for their furbabies. My only con for this place is that I wish they had a small/big dog section. My dog doesn't seem too comfortable to play much here as I think the bigger dogs intimidate/scare her so she'll much rather play around small dogs only. Or I'll bring her during the off-peak hours of the day when there's less dogs here. Be prepared for a happy hour party of dogs around 6pm on weekdays (after work hours) as it can get crowd. Overall this is a great dog park! Definitely recommend for dog owners.

I mean... why fake grass if you can give your dogs the real experience instead of touching plastic with their paws.... anyways that's another topic. This dog park is small but gets very busy. Most people are residents or live nearby. If you're not sure where to find a lot of dogs for yours to play with, this park might just be it. Watch out. Because it's fake grass, even if the owners pick up the poop it'll leave doodooo residuals EVERYWHERE on the grass.

I've tried doggie parks where they were filthy with poo, irresponsible owners, and aggressive dogs. This park exceeded my expectations. The small dog area was separated from the large dog area, and it was secure. It was extremely clean as well! No dog poop!! The doggie owners were also very responsible, which was such a tremendous relief! Everyone stood around observing all of the play time, and ensured that things didn't get too out of hand. Another relief is that none of the dogs were aggressive. And yes, there are some small dogs that have aggressive behavior. Not the case here. All of the pups got along so well! In all, this is an amazing dog park and I plan to bring my girls here on a regular basis.

The owner brought the same exact dog back to the park today unmuzzled, and it aggressively went after and bit my dog multiple times. What frustrates me the most is the complete lack of preventive action. If a dog has a proven history of biting other animals, letting it roam a public off-leash area without a muzzle is completely reckless. The owner didn't take any steps to prevent a repeat incident after the first attack, putting every other dog and person in that yard at risk. If you see two St.Bernards whose owner can't manage it, do yourself a favor and turn right back around.

After parking, if you can find a spot, the first play area includes a trampoline, climbing structure, a wide metal slide and an oversized musical chime. To the right, a spacious mesh swing spins with kids constantly filling and spinning it. Directly in front is an ample sand area with a brick barrier surrounding it. To the left are three picnic tables. In front of the sand area is the smaller kids play area which is directly next to the restrooms and water fountain. To the left of the little play area is the zip line. When you go further in to the park, there is a covered area with lots of picnic tables and seating grouped together, more benches and lots of grass to play and explore further. There are paths to ride bikes, scooters, roller blades and skateboards. During warmer weather this park is packed. When we visited, following a prior event, there were already lots of kids on a gray, windy, overcast day. This park is spacious on the interior but parking on the exterior is limited. The parking lot is minimal for the amount of space to explore, which is awesome but makes it difficult to navigate up close parking. Street parking is not really existent unless you enter on the opposite end of the park.
