For the past few year I'd been going to the Jefferson Community Medicine Center whenever I needed a prescription or wasn't feeling well, never seeing the same person twice and usually even the follow up appointments were with someone new. Long story short, my father had received atrocious and frankly shameful treatment from Jefferson that would eventually lead to his untimely passing away and although it was in a different department I really just wanted nothing to do with Jeff ever again. I figured instead of looking on my insurance website for a PCP why not try Yelp since I use it for everything else which led me to Triangle Medical and Dr. Watkins. From the jump I could tell Dr. Watkins was different, he took the time to listen to me, ask me questions, and actually took my concerns into consideration. I've been seeing him for almost a year and we have uncovered several health issues that could greatly affect me down the road and have actively made a plan to get them taken care of. Having complete faith in a physician was something I never thought I'd feel after what happened to my father but the level of comfort and confidence I have with Dr. Watkins really gives me a feeling of security. The Triangle Medical office is on 10th St. right by Cheu Noodle Bar (which is also a huge bonus if your hungry post appointment). The waiting room is small but comfortable and I've always been able to get an appointment within a couple days of calling which is nice. Yesterday I was on the phone with my insurance company and they were trying to figure out the medical code for a CAT scan I needed so they called the office. When the lady came back on with me she said she was shocked she was actually able to speak with Dr. Watkins and that he was the nicest doctor she'd ever spoken with. I'm straight and before I came here someone at my gym said they thought Triangle was geared more towards the LGBT community. To my knowledge despite a heightened sense of style and killer dance moves, gay and straight men are genetically the same, get sick, and require the care of a compitent physician. I've referred my gay friends here just a much as my straight friends. I really feel fortunate I found Dr. Watkins and am grateful for the part he's playing in my well-being.

He has squeezed me in at the very last minute, and STILL didn't rush me out without making sure that we covered everything. I have 100% confidence in his technical and medical knowledge, and I actually like the fact that he often has medical students in the office seeing patients...this speaks to the trust that the local med schools have in his abilities, and I also feel that someone who teaches is, at the same time, constantly learning. Whenever I've needed blood work, he doesn't send me to a lab...he takes the blood right then and there (which is good because, in the past, doctors have given me scripts for blood work, but I'd never go). In the past, I've had to go back twice in one week and he made sure that I wasn't charged for the follow up visit....maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think every doctor would be so considerate. In a nutshell, I've been so happy with Dr. Watkins that I felt compelled to write a review here on Yelp! People DESERVE to have a doctor like Mark and in return, he deserves the business.

Because of medical neglect I faced from Vicky and Frances, I had a TUMOR in my knee go undiagnosed for five months. This was also after eight months of being on their waitlist. I was in so much pain, I was advocating for myself repeatedly, BEGGING over portal messages and voicemails for them to order me imaging for my knee, and was repeatedly left waiting for weeks on end only to be told no and that I needed to get physical therapy before I would be approved for an MRI. I finally was fed up as it got to the point I was in so much pain I couldn't walk, my knee was hot to the touch, and so swollen that I couldn't see my knee cap. I went to the ER and they said I would have to go to a sports med doc. I got a SAME DAY appointment with one (Dr. Adam Lyons at Still Medical Group was AMAZING). He called my insurance himself and got me an approved MRI the NEXT DAY!!!! Took five minutes. After my results came back and showed a tumor (not the ACL tear I thought it was) my sports med doc and both surgeons who ended up operating on me said if I had followed Frances' advice and done PT first I would have damaged my knee so intensely it may not have been repairable. Thankfully it was, but I am still dealing with ongoing chronic pain now as a result of how invasive the tumor was and how it completely took over my knee. Multiple times we were all emailed about how Vicky needed to take time off to focus on her health as she's recovering from long covid and to give her and Frances grace. I would have loved to...but then she would post photos on social media UNMASKED at crowded events. You're going to advertise yourself as a covid cautious practice, serve mostly immunocompromised and disabled folks, fuck off from providing them care, ask for patience and understanding because you have long covid... AND THEN NOT TAKE COVID PRECAUTIONS??? fucking INSANE. When I asked for a refund for the five months I waited for answers and appointments with NO help, I was given two months of a refund and never responded to again. No apology. No accountability. I went to this practice today for a follow up procedure from a previous doctor. I was scheduled with Dr. Sonya Lee. I arrived, checked in, and filled out paperwork, then was taken back to undress and wait for the doctor to come in. When she arrived, my first impression was certainly not a warm and fuzzy one. She was unfriendly, abrupt, and even seemed annoyed or inconvenienced when I was explaining my medical history and current concerns. It was uncomfortable, but I figured not everyone is naturally welcoming or comforting. It was what ensued during and after my in office procedure that assured me this was much worse than poor bedside manor. As we began my procedure, I mentioned to Dr. Lee that I wasn't good with GYN "stuff" as in very sensitive to pain and/or discomfort in that area. This was just a heads up in hopes that she would have some empathy and maybe take things a little slower or with extra care, and her response was "well yea this isn't fun for me either". Great. So my sense of her being annoyed or inconvenienced at the beginning of my appointment was confirmed. She proceeded on with the procedure which was just flat out rough and fast - beyond unpleasant. I asked her at some point if it was almost done and she said it would be. The last few seconds were the worst, it was as if she was purposely being erratic! Zero concern or consideration for me, my body, or my sensitivities. Once she was done, I mentioned that the procedure was done a little fast and roughly. She was clearly offended and said she didn't know what to tell me and wasn't sure how they do it at other places, but that's how they do it at GSP. Then she says "well I guess I'll text you with the results". Her attitude about it was horrible, dismissive, and cold. I'm sitting there half clothed and the person who's care I'm in has treated me like trash. I couldn't believe what I was experiencing. I expressed to her that I was a little uncomfortable at that point and her response was "yea me too". She then proceeded to go to the computer to take notes while I was sitting there in a very vulnerable position, unable to get up or move. I asked her if I could have please have the room to get dressed and she got up, walked out, and slammed the door behind her. As soon as that door shut I was in tears. I could not believe the treatment that I had just received. I have never in my life experienced something like this. Sure, a medical degree is great for practicing medicine, but so is care, empathy, compassion, a good bedside manor, and a general respect and consideration for others - things Dr. Lee is clearly severely lacking. I will never step foot into the offices of Gynecology Specialists of Philadelphia again and I urge others to consider my situation before they do. There are so many wonderful doctors out there, terrible experiences like mine should just never have to happen. Glad I know now! Looking forward to seeing a new doctor in the future. **Update** Ironically, but not surprisingly, recently received this letter in the mail from GSP stating that I am being let go as a patient for being "rude and disrespectful to the staff." Hard to do anything but laugh at this. First, for the fact that this is what I get in response to leaving a completely honest review of a horrid experience I had - no apology or accountability from this doctor, of course - which is right in line with my experience. And secondly, the fact that they ever thought I was stepping foot back in that office again! Ha. No thanks, a thousand times. I was nothing but pleasant with everyone in that office, including Dr. Lee who was in fact, extremely rude and unprofessional to me. God, they are worse off than I initially thought! Beware.

I've been trying to get a simple form filled out for my employment onboarding and after nearly a month of calling and messaging nearly every day, I still haven't received it. Despite repeatedly explaining that this form is required for me to begin work, every time I call I'm told they'll "send a message" to the person responsible. Nothing ever happens after that, absolutely no updates, no follow-through, and no sense of consideration. As someone who has worked in healthcare, I would never put a patient through this. The lack of communication and basic respect from the office staff has been frustrating and honestly unacceptable. It's a shame, because the clinical care was excellent, but the administrative side is severely lacking.

Since it's a teaching practice, your primary care doctor may change once they complete their residency. However, the office does a good job of notifying you when your doctor is moving on and helping you transition to someone new. While I've had several different physicians over the years, I really don't have any major complaints. One of the biggest advantages is that all of your medical records stay within the practice. Each new doctor has access to your history before your appointment, so you don't have to start completely from scratch every time. Even though every provider has a different approach, I've found that most of the doctors I've seen take the time to listen, hear my concerns, and work with me to come up with a plan that fits my needs. That has made a big difference in my experience. Getting a routine appointment can sometimes take a little while, but if you're sick and call the nurse triage line, they're usually able to rearrange the schedule and get you seen much sooner. Check-in is also quick and easy. Parking is probably the biggest downside. They have a newer parking garage, but it's a bit of a walk to the office, which can be challenging if you have mobility issues. There isn't much handicap parking directly in front of the building most of it is around the corner. While I understand those spaces would likely fill up quickly, having a few closer to the entrance would be helpful. Ongoing construction in the area can also make getting there a little more difficult, although there is metered street parking if you're lucky enough to find a spot. Overall, the staff and providers have treated me well over the years, and despite the occasional parking and scheduling challenges, I'll continue coming here. It's a practice I feel comfortable recommending.
