After we discussed her reading and I decided I'd try. I went in with no expectations and I'm glad that I did. She gave me a reading that was spot on. Disclaimer: I'm totally into stuff like this and am always willing to try it out I've walked by this place for years, after work on my way to DuPont station, thinking one day I would stop in for a tarot reading and finally the day arrived. I read with Charley. She has a super calming vibe and her reading was accurate. She described specific past and current events and people with no previous explanation from me. She took my hands at one point and I got very "tingly" for lack of better words. Not sure what that was but hey ... First of all, let me say that I didn't go there for a reading, but to shop. The name "The Psychic Shop" suggests that it's a retail store, but there isn't anything for sale except readings. There is the old bait and switch tactic going on here, which is a huge turn off. The sign says "1 palm $10, 2 palms $20" but that is not what she offers. The $10 reading is for character and $20 is for character and future. Either reading lasts about 10 minutes. You can't get a $10 future reading. Charley knows just enough to be dangerous. She was right on about some things, but not about others. She gauges your reaction to see if she can get more money out of you. She suggested that one person needed "soul cleansing" and gave her a price for that. She suggested that another person in our party had a lot going on that she wouldn't tell her without doing the more expensive $65 full psychic profile. Like I said, she does know a little something, but I get a sleazy kind of feeling about it. If she's legit, she should just charge a decent wage and give a full reading. She said I will meet someone in spring. This spring passed by and I didn't meet anyone so she did not say which spring and will be in a relationship come fall/winter . It was my first palm reading ever, and I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it didn't end too well. About 75% of the things she said were at least applicable, which I think is good for a palm reading. However, the tone of the experience overall was unprofessional and dubious. When I decided to try her establishment, I called her number as listed online. She did not pick up. Then, assuming that she may have been busy with a client since it was business hours, I arrived at the shop. I went up, and she was not there. There wasn't even a sign or anything to explain why. I left and called again. This time, she picked up. I told her about my experience so far and she apologized saying she had a personal emergency or something. She asked me if I wanted to schedule a time later in the day when she'd be in. I agreed, and asked her how much it would be for a palm reading only. SHE SAID $20. I said ok and we hung up. I began the six-hour wait for the appointment. When I returned on time for my appointment, I called her to let her know I was coming up. She was there, and we did the reading. After the reading, she marketed a few other products to me. Then she told me that the fee for my session was $50. I objected, reminding her that she told me it was $20 over the phone. She denied telling me that the fee was $20. I then recounted the phone conversation we had earlier. She acknowledged some parts of the story, such as the fact that she was the one I spoke to, and the we had made an evening appointment. Yet, she calmly lied about the rest, even challenging me to go look at her price chart for details. I chose not to do so, because I hardly thought that would help the situation. Besides, as far as I am concerned, the truth needs no proof. Ultimately, she refused to keep her word, however, as a result of our exchange offered me a $10 discount (because I had to wait). In the end, I ended up paying double the price I was told. She had the audacity to hand me her card on the way out AS IF I would ever come back or recommend anyone to her. When I got outside, I sanitized my hands and cast off any negative energy I may have received through touching her. I then put her card in the trash where it belonged. Beware: this reader may be satisfactory in her craft, but she doesn't seem to have a good character. Character affects and directs the quality of what we do and create. This was my first psychic reading and I went with two other friends. I was so excited and hopeful.......but it was a horrible reading, nothing was accurate at all. I had three main concerns that I wanted to address when I first came and Charley did not touch on any of the problems. She stated that I was currently talking to three men and that there was an ex who was trying to come back into my life. She stated I tend to go for younger men and should follow a love interest of an older man that I knew at work. She also stated that she did see marriage in my future. She also mentioned that I would travel twice in the next 2 months and I would get a promotion at work. WRONG...everything was just so wrong!!! I am already married, been with the same guy for 8 years, so everything she said was BOGUS. I also work in an environment where there are barely any men.....and my current job situation does not allow for me to get promotions. Meeeehhhh..... I don't really know how to feel about this place. First off, I made an appointment to see Charley at 5. I arrived promptly, she actually answered the door (on the phone), proceeded to sit me down and say someone would be with me right away. I didn't even know that was Charley who answered the door, she didn't say "I" will be right with you, she said "someone". So I sit and relax, flip through a few of the astrology books they have on the coffee table and whatnot... And I sit... And I sit some more... Finally I look at my watch and its 5:35. I made the appointment at 5 because I had other places to be, and it wasn't like they had a bunch of people walking in and out (I believe I was the only one there, with the exception of someone who came out of a reading while I was waiting with another psychic) so I'm like seriously, WTF. I had a good 40 minutes almost to mull over what I wanted (palm reading, tarot, etc), and I had planned on spending a good $50-75 based on the positive reviews on Yelp that she's received, but at this point I'm a little annoyed. I knock on the door to the back part of the studio, she's sitting on the couch (STILL on the phone) and I motion my index finger to my watch while saying, "Do you know when Charley will be available? I'm a little pressed for time, which is why I made an appointment for 5..." Forgot to mention I had been calling this place multiple times for the last two weeks trying to schedule an appointment, I had just so happen to call THAT DAY on a whim and viola! someone answered the phone... A young, skinny woman interjects my questioning and says, "Oh, someone will be right with you immediately.", whilst she shuffles me out of the doorway and back to the lobby. Charley then comes out, saying she apologized, she had a family emergency (which I'm not so sure is true, I heard bits and pieces of her convo when she kept coming back out into the lobby to get water, it honestly just sounded like girl talk or gossiping), and said she would give me a discount for waiting so long. I perked up a little after hearing this, but when I decided on the palm reading, it only went from $25 to $20. Not that I expected the world, but I would have spent much more money if she would have suggested a different reading. I feel like she was just trying to do the quickest reading possible. There was also another gentleman whom had joined me in the lobby by this time, and by their brief convo and interaction I knew he was ALSO there to see Charley. Now the reading, or lack thereof... She literally looks at one palm for about 5-7 minutes, if even that. She said I was to live a long life, and that my heart chakras aren't in order, and in order to fix them I need X amount of sessions for $400. Um, wut? She pretty much told me stuff I already knew, since I'm no stranger to chakra, crystal and energy works/healing. Numerology too but that's another story for another review. LoL I've been to my share of Reiki healers, psychics, mediums, you name it. She wasn't my first trip around the block. I felt extremely rushed. While in the DC area recently I decided to stop in and get my cards read. I've had readings before, so I feel like I can give a pretty objective review of my experiences. The pros: I was able to be seen as a walk-in. The cons: The person who read my cards (not Charley - I read good reviews of her on Yelp but she wasn't working that night) definitely had some insight, but I think she could hone it a little more. She picked up on some things that were happening in my life, but she was kind of vague. I tried not to lead her with body language or my responses, but I almost wish I had. I also felt like she flipped through the cards too quickly. In the past I've had a reader deal the cards (it's usually in a 5-7 spread or a Celtic cross), see what they have dealt for each "layer", and tell me what they see. I felt like the girl who did my reading would flip through, often layering up to 3 layers before saying something like, "Yeah, I definitely still pick up on [insert situation here]" -- I did not want to be hit up for a remote chakra cleansing. I made it clear several times that I was not interested and she kept pushing it. -- Towards the end I felt like she was trying to push me out the door. I had said in the beginning that I had had a relative pass away and there was something I hadn't been able to tell them. I asked her to please concentrate throughout the reading on any energy from that person because I needed to know that they had gotten the message I wanted to tell them. I asked several times throughout the reading if she had gotten any energy from that person, and at the end she said, "They're in a better place." In summary: I felt like I got a few validations of things I already knew about in my life. Nothing earth-shattering and like I mentioned, nothing I didn't already know. Not worth $50 unfortunately (my apologies to the piggy bank I smashed to fund this session). With more honing, I think the person who read my cards could improve and truly provide some valuable insight to those who come to her seeking it. read more

What's a fun birthday gift idea for an astrology-loving friend? A palm reading at The Psychic Shop! I went there on a Thursday evening, got the basic $30 palm treatment, and had a great time. The Shop itself is a small place tucked away on the second floor of a quasi-DuPont street. The decor is cozy and interesting, with crystals adorning the wall and a bookshelf packed with volumes on all manner of psychic phenomena. The readings take place behind a little curtain towards the back of the shop. The psychic speaks in soothing, reassuring tones, and maybe a little quickly. She ran through all the elements, career, relationship, whatnot. I didn't really have any questions for her afterwards, although she'll ask you directly if there's anything specific you want to know. Analyzing the entire reading, I would put her accuracy at about 60%. Not bad for thirty bucks. My one gripe: I broke my arm two days later snowboarding in Pennsylvania. It was a bad break too, that eventually required surgery. A warning would have been nice. All in all, I recommend hitting up The Psychic Shop for a evening of light supernatural fun. They offer other services varying in price, and they take cards. You can make a reservation, but they take walk-ins too. read more

This price is a little high but I would say completely worth it. I got my cards read half a deck for 50 which was a lot. For the full deck it's 75. I didn't say much to Natalie or reveal anything until the end but she covered most dead on. She got the friend thing right of trying to sabotage as well as a new flame who starts with the letter C. Almost everything she said was broad and contradictory. She kept looking at me for clues to guide her predictions but I kept a stone cold poker face, except of course when I almost burst out laughing when she said a coworker will profess their love to me soon...I work with all married females This reader was just some kid who read some ideas in a book on how to read. I stopped by The Psychic Shop during a work trip, as they were still open late (9:30-10ish) on a Sunday night (unlike most stores in DC). In fact, I passed 2 other google map psychics until I found this place open. While I prefer to have my tarot cards read, $60 is too much unless yelp tells me 50+ people say you're amazing. So the $20 palm reading it was. Having done this a few times, some of the things I've heard before. So does that make it true? Including: your very close to the time frame of finding the one, the past is the past, you're around competitive people at work, you're at a very good place in life, and the one you end up with you already know. Some things I found to be untrue: she immediately said I was very fit, as I'm easily in the worst shape of my life currently. She contradicted herself a few times: saying at one point "your first marriage... I mean your first and only marriage." She said I would get married around 36/37, after 10 minutes before saying I was very close to finding the one (that age is a far ways away). Whenever I called her out on the contradictions, she backpedaled quickly but not fluid enough for me to not catch it. She said I would meet the one I end up with online, and I said I thought you said I already knew him? She then said, you do but after you see him online you'll see him in a new light. Visited this Shop just recently and had a really bad experience. After driving 50 minutes from Virginia, the psychic had a family emergency to tend to and was not at the Shop. The man at the store notified us that she would not be able to get to the appointment until an hour and a half later. We waited and then met her upstairs once we got a call that she was back. She told us that it would be a few more minutes..15 more minutes pass by and she comes over without apologizing telling us that she is ready for the first reading. As soon as I sit down she tells me that their credit card machine is turned off because they weren't expecting to be open that late yet their shop closes around midnight.... not the first thing I want to talk about prior to getting a reading. During the actual reading most things regarding my past were untrue and did not make any sense. Since I could not relate to anything she was saying regarding my recent past I felt extremely awkward and just sat there. I left feeling rushed during the entire 10 minute reading that was originally $50 but became discounted to $40 because we had to wait. Although now reading from previous comments I see $40 a pretty frequent cost for the tarot readings. I asked for further clarification on a comment she made and instead of elaborating she repeated exactly the same comments she said during the reading. Additionally, the coughing was quite disturbing. Went to this place because I was recommended by a friend to see Charley, whom she raved about. Told Charley I only wanted my palms read, which was $20, she reads my palms for all of maybe 4 minutes then suggests going deeper into my problems with Tarot reading... which is $50. Since I;m in the middle of knowing more about the issues I've been dealing with all summer, I went ahead and did the tarot reading. Note* she didnt describe much in my palm reading, she quickly tried to sell me the tarot. When she did my tarot reading, some information that she gave me was definitely not right.. She didnt explain much further she just kept saying I needed a spiritual cleansing.... WHICH COSTS $1,600!! She kept pushing the cleansing on me even though I said I cant afford that right now, she gave me an alternative that was also quite $$. I do not feel satisfied with my visit. I came to get clarity about a situation in my life that has been taking a toll on me, which she did pinpoint, however did not go into any further detail about or tell me anything about the future about this situation. I was also extremely dissatisfied that she didn't spend much time on my palm or tarot and kept trying to sell me the next pricey service. This is my first-ever Yelp! review, and I am doing it because of my experience with The Psychic Shop. I am very skeptical by nature, but I also want to believe in such things a this, so both of these aspects of my personality affected the way I interpreted my reading. With that in mind, here are the highlights of my experience: -I went to The Psychic Shop four or five months ago. Charley did the reading, and I found the experience interesting to observe; it was not exactly what I expected. Charley's phone must have rung a dozen times during the reading, and she answered every time. That was more than annoying, but she seemed to have something serious going on in her personal life. -Nevertheless, when she wasn't on the phone, Charley was pleasant and friendly. I tried to give her as little information as I could, and I think that I asked two questions throughout the reading. -The palm reading was brief, but she seemed to have "hit the nail on the head" overall. She acknowledged several distinctive aspects of my personality, interests, and motivations. I didn't register her saying anything that did not apply at all. -The tarot reading was more intensive. She asked two questions: first about a couple of people I spend a lot of time with (at work) and secondly about what I do for a living. These were after she had already revealed quite a bit of what felt to be very specific. I racked my brain about whether the reading would apply if I had a different job with different people, and in the end I can't honestly say for sure. I asked a number of people if what she told me would apply to their working lives, and most of them said it would be a stretch, but it could apply if some allowances were made. What she told me, though, was again "nail on the head" and I did not have to make any allowances for what she read to apply to my life. That was a little unnerving. -Also unnerving was that everything she said about me personally felt accurate. My life is a little unconventional, and she didn't say much about me that felt like it would apply universally. -She made a few specific predictions: First, she said I would be traveling twice in the coming months (she named the months)--once for business and once 'romantically.' One of those predictions was correct; the other was not. -She discussed something, eerily on the nose, about a past relationship of mine. This was what really unnerved me. She said that the person with whom I had that relationship would reappear in my life by the end of the summer, which seemed unlikely, and she told me to avoid that person. The reason I am writing this is now is because only one person in my life fit that description (exactly), and the person did in fact reappear just a few weeks ago. I never, ever imagined that a tarot reader would guess something as specific as was told to me (in greater detail than I am recounting here), or that she would foretell something happening and it coming true. But she did. -She made another specific prediction that so far has not come true. -Overall, she was encouraging and kind, and despite my mixed skepticism, in the aftermath of the reading, I have felt hopeful because of what I was told--and that makes it worthwhile for me in the end. -She did try to 'upsell' me on a 'cleansing,' which I expected because I read others' experiences here. But she wasn't forceful about it at all; she gave me her card and told me to call her. In the end, I definitely would return for a follow-up reading if I didn't feel I were going to be pressured to purchase additional services that I cannot afford and don't have any reason to have faith in. -I went into the reading thinking that, at the worst, I would have spent a fair amount of money for a once-in-a-lifetime experience and would at least get to observe a self-identified 'psychic' (Intuitive? Body language interpreter? Con artist?) at work, distinct from what I've seen in movies and television shows. So I had low expectations and I came away with a lot more than I ever expected. So for anyone who has the money and who is wary of being upsold, it may well be a worthwhile experience. If you are naive/impressionable/desperate, you might seek the help of a counselor instead. I think most people who go for readings probably have a vulnerability that could make them exploitable, so always consider that. read more

A Total Rip Off - Stay Away. Went in for a $35 tarot card reading. The reading lasted only 5 minutes!! It was full of platitudes ("someone around you is thinking of you") and generalizations ("this year will be positive year for you - the months of x and y in particular"). It became apparent about two minutes in that the reader had simply memorized a bunch of lines and was just regurgitating them back up. Didn't have me touch or cut the cards - which is an initial first step in most readings. When I asked questions I was told "the answer to that question is beyond the next 6 months, this reading only sees the next 6 months. if you;d like to know the answer to that question, you can do the $50 tarot card reading." Total scam. You can get detailed, accurrate readings in Washington D.C. for between 50-60$ for an hour reading. This place is not one of them! This place is the equivalent of throwing your money away - don't bother. read more

I recently did a reading with Charley's assistant, Amber. Kind of a waste of money. I'm usually a sucker for things like this, but I couldn't buy into her. She spent most of the time trying to get me to pay for a$700 chakra cleaning. Whether that's legit is not the point, she spent our time not on talking about me but more about that service and generic psychic language not specific to my personal reading, stuff I can find on google. She didn't even go through the whole deck even though I paid $50, because she had spent so much time on talking about irrelevant stuff. I went here for my first palm reading tonight. It was a great first experience. I went in to the reading open minded, but still got a lot more out of it than I thought I would. Nicole brought up very relevant issues and topics in my life and I knew exactly what she was talking about. It felt very personal and gave me a sense of guidance. So this is an update whether the predictions that was done during my reading came true or not. The reading was done in October of 2013. I would say that 80% of it did came true, and they weren't just 'general stuff' either. It was specific and even now I am still amazed. I wish I still work in DC, I want to see her again. read more
