ATTN HEALTHCARE WORKERS!!!! Specifically the ones being forced to go here: Get a lawyer because you are about to be roped into one of the most unethical and immoral scams of all time. A lot of states, such as Indiana, force ALL doctors that get referred to them for ANY reason (such as an annoymous letter full of lies wriiten because of a personal vendetta) to subject to a 5,000$ out of pocket 2 day long "evaluation" where they bascially fabricate a diagnosis based on zero facts in order to force you into a 30.000$ inpatient stay under the threat of losing your medical license if you don't comply. It's coercion and I don't understand how any of this is legal. What I didn't find out until the end is that half of your evaluators, including the head doctor who makes the final decion, literally own the rehab and have significant finanical gains from you being admitted. And no, most insurances don't cover this. They litterally LIED to me about my intiial test results which they legally don't have to show you and I only found out after subpoenaing them through my lawyer 6 months later. They stated I had a severe stimulant addiction because I took a once daily adderall for 15 years AS PRESCRIBED. Don't telll them ANYTHING. I addmitted to trying cocaine twice in my entire life and not even liking it and they wrote I had a "mild cocaine addiction" even though it didn't show up on any of my tests including my hair or fingernails. My THC was in the "very low" range yet they stated I had a "moderate addiciton" because I addmitted to eating edibles once in a while on my days off. They tell you that you have "no willpower" although you absolutly know you do. They fabricate diagnosises based on zero evidence and your only option is to pay for another 5,000$ evaluation at one of the other TWO options you are given which are all out of state and probably just as corrupt. GET A LAWYER RIGHT AWAY. DO NOT GO WITHOUT TALKING TO A LAWYER. I have filed complaints with the attorney general and medical board which are actively being investigated. The director of PSI, Dan Angres, did not get into an American medical school so he went to Guadalajara, Mexico for his medical degree. This was in the 70's when such programs were considered "diploma mills" and significantly inferior to a traditional medical school. Read Dr. Angres' bio: it conveniently skips over where he received his medical degree. Such "graduates" were barred from many residencies, psychiatry being an exception. Yet, he is called an "expert-in-the-field". Have many 'experts-in-the-field' not been able to get into a traditional medical school? Angres' wife and son also run the program. His son was a realtor, not even a nurse or a social worker. A realtor! Perhaps he too took a short-cut path to adulthood. Who would be confident in this type of set up? Would a reputable institution such as Johns Hopkins allow a department to be run by a family? PSI gives the impression that they are located inside the prestigious Northwestern University. They are not! This is deliberately misleading. Also, consider this: Here is a guy, an admitted recovering alcoholic, who sits in judgement of physicians who accomplished what he could not. Think on that for a while. Typically you get what you pay for and PSI is no different. If you want a cut-rate rehab program then PSI is it. But go into it with your eyes open! PSI may check the little box but they are not going to help you. They have, lets say, regular clients at PSI. This is proof that PSI is not only ineffective, but I submit, injurious to clients. It is not just a waste of time or money; PSI does actual harm. But this is understandable because PSI is an extension of their director. Positive Sobriety has pros and cons just like any business. It is a treatment center that provides intensive outpatient treatment. Unfortunately it is an out of network center so the question is, is it worthwhile or so significantly better that it justifies the out of pocket cost compared to an in-network IOP. I have only gone to a couple treatment centers so my experience is limited but they seem to all offer group therapy, a dabble in CBT, maybe DBT, a bit of yoga, intro to meditation etc. At Positive Sobriety the offering was consistent with what I experienced elsewhere in professional healthcare treatment. I felt the bulk of the providers there cared and the services were as advertised. There was no individual therapy but again that may be common in the acute treatment phase. It worked! Thats a positive but I'm not sure it was so head and shoulders above that I can say worthwhile bang for your buck. Most in an IOP program will be encouraged to stay in the programs residential housing so another cost to think of. Also, I agree with 3 other reviews. It's treatment and God willing it will help, but should the facility evaluating one be the same place that receives financial gain based off what 'evaluation' says? I feel I too was made to appear worse on paper to justify. 'Own' your medical treatment and always obtain copies of your record.....what is written stays with you for life! read more

Horrible experience through and through. PSI responds to constructive criticism with hostility and vindictiveness: they trashed me to my medical board after I raised concern about my personal information being spread outside of PSI's confines without permission. I reported them to the Illinois Medical Board but they said that due to short staffing it would be a year before they can investigate and that was before COVID. Corrupt incompetent Illinois! The facilities are dumpy. I was stuck in the elevator three times and once it was over 40 min to get help. Staff is clueless and can't even work a PowerPoint Presentation. There are significant additional charges they don't disclose and staff is unapologetic about such expenses. Their dog endlessly begs for scraps and poops in the hallway of the treatment area where the clients have a lunchroom: Unsanitary and disgusting! So horrible was all this that I remain completely sober cause there is no way in hell I'd EVER go back there !!! read more

While at PSI my hopefulness slowly morphed into despair upon realizing that I was just another 'problem physician' to bilk. A senior staff member unapologetically told me that docs who come to PSI usually drain their retirement accounts to pay for everything. And following that chat there came talk of returning to PSI to 'track my progress' for months to years. Then it dawned on me that this is their business plan. They have loads of docs who actually do this, and it is expensive and open-ended. If they write this 'advise' into your discharge your plan, which is forwarded to your medical board, you must comply or loose your medical license and livelihood. I found almost nothing good or effective about PSI. So I left. Fortunately I soon found another program. I'm proud to have more than a year of sobriety, a healthy family life and I've regained my enthusiasm for my medical practice. read more

Fellow physicians and nurses BEWARE that this mom/pop (and son) facility claims expertise in treating us. This is a cookie-cutter program that is weak in substance and strong on hostility toward anyone who brings up any concerns such as the soft curriculum. The medical director and his wife are ruthless and they will make an adverse report to your medical board over nothing. I saw two people kicked out of the program when they raised legitimate concerns. This can cause your medical board to act against your medical license and perhaps revoke it. And the PSI staff does not care. They make loads of money and that is their mission. Do not trust your recovery and career to PSI. Addendum: Chicago is a very dangerous city too. read more

This is the last rehab a professional person should consider given that the medical director attended a diploma mill med-school in Guadalajara, Mexico back in the 70's when he could not get into a traditional American medical school. His wife and son run the program which is haphazard and weak. This is why I believe PSI has so many repeat customers. While at PSI I felt out of place as I was the only newbie.
