Impressive medieval castle in really picturesque surroundings. There is a visitor centre display charting the history of the castle from the original built circa 1100 through to its later ownership by the all powerful Percy family believe me you can't travel far into Northumberland before you come across the Percy family name in one way or another! There isn't a great deal of the castle to explore really, the main interest comes from the imposing entrance, the area in front of the main building and then some areas where you can walk around the walls. Sadly we visited on a very wet and gloomy June day so it was difficult to get any particularly good photos but on a sunny day it will look quite beautiful really. Adults £4.40, Children 2.60, Concession £4.00. English Heritage members free. Personally I think it's slightly overpriced but then I think quite a few of the English Heritage sites are. There's a small car park for visitors which is free. All in all a pleasant place for an hour or so out! read more
