This is by far the best daycare in Charlotte run by two great people. I have three children and have had them in 4 other daycares in the area. I've researched countless others. This daycare has amazing facilities and teachers and extracurriculars and administration and... It's such a relief that my children love going to school (sometimes ask to go on Saturday). It's also a relief to see how well they are prepared for the future during this key developmental stage of life. PS the landscaping is amazing too. And the organic gardening. And weekly water play. We love PPS! Both of our boys have attended this school. The curriculum and the creativity are exceptional. Our oldest son graduated and is now in kindergarten and is truly excelling. We are grateful for the amazing foundation that PPS gave him. Teachers love the children and the children love them just as much. The school's facility and grounds are extremely top- notch and impressive. The play grounds are designed with a child in mind- and are Modern, environmentally friendly and encourage creativity all while being very safe. The classrooms are good sized, inviting, full of natural light and even real fish. The rooms are designed to benefit children's development. I personally love the real birds enclosure and the Discovery Den. Take a tour, you'll be impressed. read more

Good things: healthy food, new and clean facility, offers soccer / hair cuts / gym activities / coffee for parents Bad things: astronomical teacher turnover and classroom instability due to turnover; expensive compared to similar facilities; teachers let young kids watch movies to give themselves a break. We experienced problems with our child being hurt most days of any given week (large, bloody scrapes, deep, bruising bites from others kids, sometimes with broken skin), but the teachers rarely reported seeing these things happen or record them on incident reports. This is concerning from a infection control perspective (open wounds + other kids' body fluids). My fundamental expectation is that my child be safe at day care, barring minor and occasional incidences, and this place is disappointing on that account. Don't know if this is an across the board experience in all classes... Important to note: this day care was founded expressly to bring children into the southern baptist church--that may be desirable for some families, but not for others. read more

I'm writing as a prospective parent having looked at many early learning centers in recent months and PPS is ok but nothing special. The tour was actually one of the most un-engaging and unorganized I've been on. Our guide certainly didn't try to sell me on the program. The classrooms are very large and spacious which is a huge plus and the children had a lot of visual stimulation. All good things. When I asked about the curriculum, since this is what they say they are attuned to, nothing was really mentioned specifically other than preparation for kindergarten. So how are you preparing them? I did ask about technology and was told that there is one iPad per room that the kids can use. That's not technology as a teaching tool. There was tremendous emphasis throughout the tour that children could get their haircut and they would take my laundry for me. Big deal. I learned more about that than I did about what I would consider pertinent information. There are many wonderful child care facilities in the area that are much nicer and truly focus on what's most important, your child. I agree with many of these reviewer's comments and we ultimately placed our child in another location -- and we're thrilled b/c he's learning, he's comfortable and we know he's cared for and cherished each and every day. read more

This school is truly extraordinary. We could not be happier. Our son becomes so attached to his loving teachers that we don't want him to grow up to the next classroom, and then the same thing happens with the new teachers. The ownership team Sandy and Betsy are just warm hearted people and the new management team under Courtney is easy to talk to, great with teachers, and great with addressing all of the questions and concerns that all parents have about how their baby is doing! We have and will continue to recommend PPS to our closest friends and family as it is a really special community to be a part of. My favorite part of the school is the outdoor space that is just a toddler dream! I have not seen anything else like it in Charlotte. read more

Our toddler son attended PPS from the day they opened and I was so excited about this promising new day care that I recruited quite a few of our friends to leave our daycare for PPS. There were many many problems--mostly small things. One of the reviewers covered some. I felt forgiving, but would talk with the director occasionally when serious problems presented. After 8 months or so, Sandy, the owner, called my husband and said they were kicking us out of the daycare--literally, asking us to LEAVE the daycare! LOL, I asked my husband if you "can" get kicked out of daycare. Like: we pay the bill every month, right?! Well, it happened, and it was nothing short of shocking and plain weird. The owner was vague about the reason, but alluded to the fact that it wasn't appreciated that I would talk to the director about the problems the daycare was having th. I still don't really understand "why" this transpired, but it is what it is. I am a nice woman and always respectful, not like some parents, and never felt like my talkis with the director were a problem. I have been criticized for being too nice, so I don't think the problem was with me but who knows. The director seemed open to talking. I can't say improvements were made after our meetings, but still there was no unpleasantness, and it was a warm relationship. Dawn was the director but I have heard she has been terminated. Regardless, she would tell the most wild stories to explain why your kid got hurt on the playground, but then her story would be different from the teachers story and she was just hard to believe. The teachers in my son's classroom loved him and raved about how sweet he was and what a good helper, and told me he was the popular kid in class. I was just shocked at being asked to leave. It's not like he hurt anyone or there were any class problems to speak of. I established relationships with the parents and my son had friendships. Explaining to friends that we were being kicked out for a reason that I couldn't specifically explain was weird and incredibly embarrassing. We were always very generous with the teachers, doing nice (and expensive) things for the holidays and birthdays and donated items to the class room that they asked for for art projects of whatnot. I figure that preschool teachers probably don't make much money and the job is hard, so to express our gratitude we were generous. I became running partners with one teacher. My point is there was nothing wrong that I knew of and being kicked out without notice was a complete shock. We also had a logistical problem: my husband and I both work and we had no child care. As many know, Charlotte child care wait lists can be years long. I took a week off which meant canceling meetings and flights, and I began visiting day cares and spent almost $1000 getting on a bunch of waitlists. We couldn't find anything above a 4-star rating in a 25 minute drive and ended up getting a nanny, who we still have and love. But our childcare cost went from $1500/month to almost $3000/month, plus the vacation time I spent finding replacement care in a pinch. It was not easy or pleasant. I was mad, to say the least. This review is written almost a year later, so consider this is measured reflection on what happened. I guess what I'm saying is that PPS created a huge problem for us financially--it just screwed us to completely change our childcare cost and schedule--again, without notice. Imagine if this happened to you! Most people couldn't accommodate their child care costs doubling with no notice. I had to stop contributing to my 401k to pay for the nanny, but TMI. We also prepaid for the whole year of soccer class and the gym class they have at PPS, so we lost that money too! That alone was hundreds. I feel sick to add the total in my head of how much this place cost us in the end. Thousands. But the thing that broke our hearts was the fact that our son wasn't able to go to school with his friends, some who he shared a class with since infancy because so many friends came to PPS with us. It was incredibly sad and he had some behavioral problems in the transition away from day care to the nanny, and was always asking about his friends. I was just sick over it. I didn't know what to do or what to tell him. I wouldnt recommend this daycare. There were positive aspects but what happened to us, making us move our son from his friends, and us paying out the nose for the nanny, really hurt us a many ways and there was no good reason for it. In fairness, there was one good and unique thing PPS (maybe) did: have toothbrushes for the kids to brush after lunch. Whether the toothbrushes got used is doubtful since my childs brush was always in the exact same spot in the box with the others, but the thought that they were brushing was cool. read more

Typical case of overpromising and under-delivering. Providence prep is billed as a "prep school" where the kids would be taught with iPads and other Mac technologies--as if our little ones would emerge with programming experience to add to their resumes. Far from it. Instead, we saw ZERO evidence of anything educational happening while our girls have been there. No ipads, nothing of the sort. Having two kids, I had occasion to visit quite a bit to pick one up for doctors appointment, hang out to soothe the others' separation anxiety, pick up a sick kid (etc), and what I observed is that there's no "teaching" or "prep"--which would be fine if the school didn't lead parents to believe there are lesson plans and things being learned. We expected more than just babysitting at PPS. This might be the most expensive daycare in town and we expected something resembling real education and real engagement for the money we pay--especially for two kids! They don't give a tuition discount for child #2, by the way. There is also intolerance of people of other faiths. It became a HUGE issue when we asked to see the "faith and formation" lesson plans, which we ultimately asked to opt out of. The director said that basically wasn't an option and our kids had to be exposed to the religious teachings that are not ours. It's explainable once we get home (we're Jewish), but was surprising how negatively we were treated when we broached the question. The staff is a revolving door: the administrative staff, chef, and a number of the original "teachers" are gone after being open for only eight months. Some of our friends are "meh" with their kids at PPS--not unhappy enough to move them but let down all the same. For me, the strangest thing is that, when we met with the director about concerns, she changed the conversation and wiggled out of addressing the issue that we set the meeting to discuss--on a number of occasions. She is manipulative and wants to keep things superficially pleasant, but poor leadership may be the cause of their endemic issues. We would walk away from the meetings and say to each other "why did we bother leaving work early to meet with this lady?" because it was very clear that our concerns would not be addressed. A few of the teachers who left our class have remained in touch personally (for babysitting and such) and hinted that the director is the source of the dysfunctionality, but that is anecdotal since we can't see things as the staff does from the inside. We couldn't recommend this daycare but we stuck it out for 9 months because we didn't want to move the kids around too much and felt sure these issues were just growing pains of a new daycare. After one week of my niece being in the 1year old classroom, she was walking and talking more than she ever had before! The teaching staff is very friendly and knowledgable and the school if clean and beautiful! I would recommend this school to anyone with a small child. read more

I brought my daughter to PPS shortly after they opened based on their commitment to creating a consistent and supportive environment for children and their stated commitment to healthy meals, the environment and conservation. It all started out quite well but their commitment to the environment soon went out the window followed quickly by the healthy meals. They initially had washable napkins, a garden for the kids to work in that would also be a healthy source for vegetables to be used in meals, organic food for the children. The napkins disappeared first, followed closely by the commitment to healthy meals. No more garden. No more organic, healthy meals. Fresh from the garden vegetables were replaced by processed foods and the meals then became a rotation of 10 menu items so the children ended up with a very limited variety of foods and less healthy (and more processed) items. As well, classroom ratios have been pushed to the maximum allowable by the state (I'm sure they've lobbied for those to go even higher). Since the owners have recently opened up another building, the cutbacks have gotten worse. I guess you have to make up for the cost of a new building somewhere! So why not continue raising prices while providing significantly less to the students! Seems like a bad business plan with just this information alone, but it gets worse! As if the services provided being less than what was initially promised (with no acknowledgement of this by the owners) wasn't bad enough, the quality of the teaching has dropped to an untenable level. Well, I guess it's tenable if you're the owner and want to cut costs everywhere, but for any parent who expects an appropriate level of care for his/herchildren it's most definitely untenable. And unforgivable given that PPS parents pay a premium for what is, in essence, substandard care. Now, there are still some solid teachers at PPS, but they are slowly being weeded out in favor of inexperienced, unprepared and misguided teachers. Some of these teachers cannot manage a classroom and have no business being in a classroom as they can't figure out how to engage children and properly redirect them. My concerns were with their inability to meet the very basic requirements one should have of their children's' teachers - be respectful, be kind, be compassionate, be consistent. They most definitely deserve a failing grade on each count right now. It would be one thing if concerns were just about the teachers or just about the loss of the original pillars the school was established upon, but to pile on even more, the owners don't give a flying flip (I'd like to use another word here, but I will not demean my points by being so crass) about the kids or the parents. They care only about getting more money out of their business. Profits are certainly an acceptable aim in any business endeavor, but when it comes at the cost of losing sight of the reason you are in business - to build and nurture little children - then you deserve to lose that business. I know that Sandy has told more than one parent to go ahead and leave if they don't like it. That sounds like a fine way to deal with an irrational customer, but not the way you deal with a parent who has concerns about the quality of their child's care. If you've made it this far, then you are clearly dedicated to finding an excellent school for your lovely child to attend. I commend you for that and offer this simple advice: TAKE YOUR CHILD SOMEWHERE ELSE! For goodness sake, look ANYWHERE else. read more

We moved to Charlotte 2 years ago, and the priority at that time was to find the best Pre-School for our 3 yo daughter. Fast forward to today, our daughter graduated that program into Kindergarten, and we have had our little boy there for little over one year now, after moving him around to other S. Charlotte Pre Schools waiting for a slot to open up at Providence Prep ( his sisters school). So we have great experiences for both children, and have personally experienced some alternate choices in south Charlotte, which ran the gamut from terrible to positive. Nothing compares to PPS. The owners, administrators, and teachers all work as a team providing the absolute best care for the children that you leave in their custody. You feel the ownership, and love, from every person in the building. The greatest regret you will have with PPS is waiting your turn on the wait list to enroll your child. There is a reason for the wait list, and it is well worth the wait. read more

This school makes a lot of promises and sounds great. Unfortunately the administration doesn't keep any of these promises. I expected my child to receive high quality care, nutritious meals, and an engaging curriculum. Not too much to ask for the very high price, but the meals are the same "daycare fare" of any school and the teacher turnover rate is just as high. The curriculum, if it can even be called that, does not celebrate diversity. The building is lovely and the school has the potential to be great. Unfortunately the owner doesn't know anything about running a school and is more interested in making money than improving the quality. I'm taking my child out and recommended others avoid the hassle and altogether. read more

My son, has been a student at Providence Prep for two years and my daughter will attend in the fall. We have made huge sacrifices to attend the school, as it is certainly one of the most expensive preschools in the area. As a teacher, I can honestly say, that it is well worth the money and the sacrifice. I've read the other reviews on here, I've never had a problem with anyone returning my phone class, both when I was a prospective parent and as a paying customer. When touring any school, you need to be knowledgeable about what you are looking for, and pay attention for those things in the classroom. Yes, there are iPads and access to smart boards, but the kids have limited screen time which is a service to them, not a disservice. The rooms are open, and engaging with lots of space for creative play and they learn the way they should, through discovery. I hope that anyone who reads reviews takes into account that for every person that is frustrated enough to attempt to damage a reputable program there are plenty that are very happy. We are just not out looking for places to share that information. We should be. Providence Prep is amazing. The new director is loving, knows every child by name and they are growing in leaps and bounds. You may not find the PPS is the place for you, but don't discount it based on these two reviews. read more
