Im so glad that I found this campground before I read all of the reviews, especially the negative posts. My 10 year old son and I are camping here now in a tent with my 2 dogs. This is by far the cleanest, nicest campground we have ever stayed in in MA! The people are all so incredibly nice and helpful and extremely hard working! They have curbside trash/recycle pickup every morning making it so much easier. The security is what I like, a front gate with passcard for entrance and absolutely no chance of feeling unsafe. Our campsite is very big and has a solid large picnic table as well as a large fire pit with grill rack. They gave us directions to all area attractions as well as grocery/shopping sites. More to come as week progresses!!! Don't go anywhere else, this place has it all! We spent the last day/night hiking at Race Brook Falls and then swimming, jumping off the dock, and of course going down the huge slide 60+ times!!! Great time camping here! Hate to leave but cant wait to come back.

Location: Beautiful Ambiance: quiet Experience: dreadful. The people running this place should not be in the hospitality industry. I don't believe they understand the meaning of the word "hospitality". I didn't feel welcome. I didn't feel that my business was appreciated. They are very rule oriented. They are not reasonable. My friend and I arrived in separate vehicles. They have a "one car per campsite" rule which they were unwilling to compromise on even though there was an abundant amount of space for two cars and two tents. I had to park my car a great distance away from the campsite which made it inconvenient. I asked them nicely to make an exception showing them the amount of free space around my site. "No. We have a rule!" Was their answer. Cleanliness: no soap in restrooms. Welcome to the dark ages. Isn't this against health code? Campsite quality: too many sites crammed in to too little space. No level place for our tents. Lots of rocks on the ground and below the surface made it hard to pound in our tent stakes. Not coming back. There are so many other wonderful places to camp around here. And they cost less and have soap in the restrooms.

The old-fashioned water slide!

We had a wonderful experience w this campground. It's very family-oriented, so I felt very comfortable letting my 9 and 5 year old boys take a walk to the game room/snack shop and to the playground by themselves-- they also loved feeling independent. We loved the water slide and swimming area; it had a large shallow area so non-swimmers can still play safely. The bathrooms were clean and I appreciated that the lights that were on a timer. We participated in Bingo night which was a lot of fun! And the ice cream portions were huge and delicious! I felt that the owners didn't overcharge for things but also were smart in having just the supplies and services on hand that we may need. We had made our reservation last minute and had a tent site at the far end of the grounds, but we loved it for the privacy and yet it wasn't too far from the bathrooms. There are quite a few roots in the wooded areas so we would bring another air mattress the next time (we had one single and the rest of us were on sleeping bags w pads). I gave 4 stars only bc it's not luxurious camping, but pretty great for family camping. It was fairly quiet by 11pm also-- not a big all night partying site like other places we've been to. And plenty to do in the area so that you can get off site and explore. I chatted w the owner and his family and found them to be really gracious and helpful.

Site S2, hard to level pop-up, but once we did, best site (but watch out for exposed tree roots)

The bathhouse ruined our experience at this campground. They smelled like pee, needed a very good cleaning and paint job. I refused to shower! It's sad because we loved the view of the lake from our site (S2), and the beach (although quite small). The playground is also small, but has a cool 3-spiral slide. The campground was quiet, but the roads need new crusher run as it was hard to tell road from sites.

Mold in bathroom showers and no soap to wash your hands.

Great campground except for the owner. He is very rude. Lake is nice but we won't return due to the people who run it.

Very easy walkable trail outside of Great Barrington (just across from Barrington Brewery). There's…read morea small sign off the side of the road for "Housatonic Flats", with a nice gravel parking lot. There isn't too much information (such as flora/fauna markers, historical notes, etc), but the signage that they do have is in great condition. At the trailhead just past the gate, there is a bulletin board with a trail map on it. There's only one trail as of the writing of this review: the Loop Trail which is 0.8 miles in length. It's obviously a loop, so whichever direction you choose, you will end up back at the trailhead. The trail itself is very walkable, great for a causal afternoon or evening stroll, and doable for all ages and abilities. It meanders along the river-- and there's a couple of side paths that head towards it-- but the banks are very steep. Use caution when walking off the main trail. There is very little incline over the course of the trail, and is mostly trimmed grass. It's very well kept up. When we visited, there were quite a few beautiful wildflowers in bloom. I'm sure that if you took your time, you'd get to observe some regional fauna, too. There's only one bench on the trail, which over looks the river. Aside from the mown trail, the rest of the Housatonic Flats park is mostly thick meadow with a treeline near the river. I'd advise staying on the trail to minimize nuisances such as ticks, poison ivy, and mosquitoes. There's no place to picnic or BBQ, so I'd advise saving that for another area altogether. It's a very nice path for a quick scenic walk. Enjoy it while it's still relatively unknown!

I think everyone else knew it too as this is the first time i have ever hiked and not bumped into other people. Hike is also very short. I visited this trail today for the first time. I really enjoyed the view of the river…read moreand the serenity. The path is flat, with blue crushed stone and quite wide so even someone with a wheelchair could navigate it. At times the river falls out of view and comes back again while the trail takes you through meadows and more populated areas of the town. "Hey, babe Take a walk on the wild side"…read more(Lou Reed) Great Barrington, MA was founded way back in 1738. So what did the town do to celebrate it's 250th anniversary? They staged a cleanup of the Housatonic River and volunteers removed 15 tons of debris from the riverbank. This was the start of a river restoration project that culminated in the creation of the Housatonic River Walk. The River Walk was built in two sections known as "Upstream" and "Downstream". We walked the Upstream section yesterday. It runs from the River Walk bulletin board at 195 Main Street to the William Stanley Overlook. The entrance has a pretty steep staircase, so you'd best be paying attention and not be texting with your BFF. The trail is short, but has some gorgeous views of the river on your left. This portion of the trail ends at the William Stanley Overlook - a nice observation point where you can admire the view and learn about Mr. Stanley, a local inventor who developed an electrical transformer. His 1886 breakthrough was responsible for running electrical wires across the river to transmit power to stores and offices on Great Barrington's Main Street. The upstream section's exit is a staircase going up to the St. Peter's Church parking lot on Dresser Avenue. This worked great for us, because we had conveniently parked our car there. It's not the longest trail we ever walked, but it was one of the more interesting and scenic walks we've taken.
