If you want to ski the Vallee Blanche, then these guys are certainly one of the easiest groups to…read morebook. Head into the office in the center of town, make a reservation, and show up the morning of the trip with your skis, lunch, and a sense of adventure.
The Vallee Blanche was definitely a bucket list item for me, and I hit it on an absolutely fantastic day. It was a few days after a storm, so there was plenty of untracked powder up top and the actual day was a blue sky perfect day. The guides provide you with harnesses and beacons, and are there to guide you to past the dangers of skiing on a glacier. I was expecting a harder day, but the route was not nearly as tough as some of the on-piste routes in the lift served areas.
Our group was about 8 strong, and we tackled the run in stages, heading off at a stagger and regrouping along the way. The views are magnificent, and you get the feeling of skiing in areas that beyond the reach of most people, even if a cable car took you to the top.
The flats at the bottom can be tiring, and the climb out of the glacier for the train ride back to town was actually the hardest part of the day (thank you global warming).
