We were here for the Tour de France and Basecamp was our go-to for the few days we vacationed in the French countryside. This cute coffee shop is located in Talloires. They are also a wonderful bike shop! The coffee is delightful but it was the scenery and ambiance that just take your breath away. The owners and workers are the nicest. We loved this cafe so much we bought shirts. :)

Head into the office in the center of town, make a reservation, and show up the morning of the trip with your skis, lunch, and a sense of adventure. The Vallee Blanche was definitely a bucket list item for me, and I hit it on an absolutely fantastic day. It was a few days after a storm, so there was plenty of untracked powder up top and the actual day was a blue sky perfect day. The guides provide you with harnesses and beacons, and are there to guide you to past the dangers of skiing on a glacier. I was expecting a harder day, but the route was not nearly as tough as some of the on-piste routes in the lift served areas. Our group was about 8 strong, and we tackled the run in stages, heading off at a stagger and regrouping along the way. The views are magnificent, and you get the feeling of skiing in areas that beyond the reach of most people, even if a cable car took you to the top. The flats at the bottom can be tiring, and the climb out of the glacier for the train ride back to town was actually the hardest part of the day (thank you global warming).

You can rent skis, shoes and sticks for a week for EUR 60. Also, different to the Skiset Snowberry, they accept small signs of usage without charging extra money. They even didn`t ask for money when a friend of us brought back the equipment with a broken stick, although we of course were sure that this damage has to be paid. My wife and another friend brought their own equipment there. They charge EUR 5 for waxing, EUR 5 for sharpening the edges and EUR 5 por small renovation of the bottom side. They are very friendly and service is important. Next time I`ll definitely will rent my equipment in this shop!
