Clarke's is great- its one of those extremely satisfying (if you're a stationary geek like me) shops, nay, emporiums, that stock EVERYTHING your little stationary-loving heart could desire. I had to make a hasty exit before I started buying completely unnecessary items like rubber stamps and embossed card sets! If you need card, coloured paper and envelopes, diaries, or arts and crafts supplies, this is the best place I've found. Downstairs they have a massive collection of pens and other standard stationary items. Upstairs they have all manner of coloured and patterned paper and card, as well as sketch books, watercolour paper and huge (A3, A2) sheets of backing card. So whether you fancy embarking on an arty project, or simply need a pritstick, Clarke's is the place. They also have a photocopying service available.

Just spending ten minutes in this small, friendly shop last week browsing through the piles of arty photo books, impressive range of Lomography cameras and accessories and mini canvases for printing inspired me so much I dusted off my Holga as soon as I got home and have been snapping away with renewed vigour ever since. Imagine if it was my local camera shop! Oh, the money I'd spend... On my way out I congratulated Serge, the owner of the shop, on his choice of stock and particularly the use of mini canvases for customised printing. Instead of paying £50+ to get one image put on a medium canvas, get a series of three on smaller canvases for less than £20. Since finding Serge on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/34875369@N08/) I've discovered that the shop was primarily opened as a way for him to sell his own images, but allowing people to get involved with their own photos is a great idea. I foolishly didn't think to ask if they do regular printing in the shop and the website is currently under construction, but next time I'm in Brighton I'll take along a few medium format films and see what Zoing can do for me. A shop like this is yet another great reason to spend time at the seaside, hurrah!

For about two weeks before term started, I popped into Sky Computers every day or two and spent an hour or so getting all my essential internet admin done...banking, booking train tickets...facebook, y'know, the important stuff! :) At first it felt a bit weird using an internet cafe in my own town, but I got sick of dodgy wireless connections in pubs and I didn't want to carry my laptop around, so Sky was perfect! The rates are reasonable and the guy that runs the place is friendly. They also have printing, photocopying and faxing facilities. I didn't use the 'cafe' and to be honest I think that was probably for the best.

Needed a last minute print job done (11x17 paper poster ) - nothing fancy - just 6-10 A3 posters. There was no one in there. No customers in line. No printers running. 2 working attendants. Completely silent. The attendant who attempted to help me looked visibly annoyed "because someone didn't show up for their shift" and immediately told me in a smug voice - "you can leave your usb drive here and we ll print it. But I don't know when it will be done. We re completely backed up. We ll call you." Me: how long do you think it will take? Attendant: *rolls eyes* - I don't know. The job is very simple and only took Brighton Print Centre 2 minutes to complete. Because MBE was "too busy". There WAS no one in there! Wtf. Lol. I could literally do the job myself. Open file. Select format. Print. Brighton Print Centre took they're time, with phones ringing, and two people in queue to quickly print it out for me. I'll give MBE two stars cause I genuinely use the service worldwide and maybe the attendant was having a bad morning. But still.. a £6 job now cost me £20 cause I had to take an Uber to a more accommodating shop.

I regularly buy old or re-issued albums labels like Light In The Attic and always feel over the moon when they arrive in brown hardback envelopes marked Don't Bend. The problem is, it's tricky sending albums to other people when it's so damn hard buying 12" mailers. There used to be lots of stationary shops selling stuff like this but it's now a case of either buying a case of 50 online or going to Mailboxes Etc and shelling out a couple of pounds for a solitary one. As you might have guessed, Mailboxes Etc is not the cheapest place to buy padded envelopes and mailers. They do however, have a big stock of different sizes ones alongside bubblewrap, sharpies, poster rolls, stationary, sellotape and big packs of paper. I go there every now and then and am grateful they're still going but god damn, their prices are high! For those with deep pockets, they also do digital printing, faxing, packaging and courier services.

I've ordered one of their packages before: 5000 A6 flyers and 250 A3 posters for £135 with free delivery. It was a very quick turnaround and very good quality. They also offer flyer design services from just £25 a low volume business cards, get as little as 10 printed!
