Where else can you burst in five minutes to closing time on a Christmas Eve demanding medium-slice bread and be answered with what you asked for, as opposed to a smack in the mouth? I'm just gutted I wasn't alive in 1905, when the building was used as a 'chronometer manufactory'. What the hell do either of those two words mean? Answers on a postcard.

They also stock roots and world music CDs and have a notice-board advertising community events, meetings and demonstrations. In a world that's becoming more corporate and generic by the minute, News From Nowhere offers genuine and life-affirming food for thought.

I recommend checking out the website as you can also order from there, but then you miss out on the dusty smell of the shop. It appeals a lot more to the average consumer now with a wider range of popular goods. There's all sorts of little pieces such as some funky postcards.

They offer a huge variety of magazines suited to all ages and interestes. They have a big variety of soft drinks in large and small bottles and cans, ice creams, crisps, sandwiches, pasties, sweets and chocolates. They also offer a good range of groceries such as coffee, tea, tinned goods and bread which might not be as cheap as those from a supermarket, but are conveninent for the location. They also offer bill payment facilities. The shop is frequented by many school children as there are a few schools nearby, but as the shop is quite big you never feel intimidated or pushed out when several children are in there at once. The staff are quietly friendly and happy to help.

I usually just go on the routine of first holding up what I want and saying 'This please'. Then I presume whatever he says next is the price. I hand over a sum of money more than the product is worth. That way I'm safe. Knowing my luck I'll get involved in a vast thornbush of a political conspiracy one day and for some reason this man will be my only hope so I'll have to listen very carefully to what he says, a task that is already sounding harder than the Hulk's PIN number.

I like to highlight the independent ones because I feel like they are doing a great thing, trying to battle down the chain stores and do their thing to improve the economy. If you need to get something from a newsagent, why not use the independent ones? They deserve your service for taking the risk and standing alone. When inside I realised that exterior decor did justice to the smart interior and that this place was clearly a very professionally run establishment. There was no shortage of products within this establishment and the prices proved to be very reasonable indeed and all of this made for a successful mixture in my eyes. The people in charge of the establishment were helpful and unlike a lot of modern day shopkeepers they took the time out to actually interact with their customers and this impressed me a great deal it has to be said. It is great to see a place as simple as a newsagent being run with such care , so well done to the people here and I hope there brand of business spreads to the rest of Kensington and Liverpool in general.

For a newsagents of this size, it does well to stock all the essentials you would expect a typical newsagents to have. In addition, they have a variety of Liverpool postcards and few items of memorabilia such as sketches of familiar faces all at reasonable prices. This is by far the tiniest newsagents I have been to but Aleef News is a smart and well presented shop where there is efficient service and hardly any queues. The only thing I would say, is that they don't have a lottery machine!
