Catherine has been very clear on what we need to be prepared for and have ready for the school. It helps that they are both direct and to the point. It helps me stay focused with a clear set goal. I'm impressed with how quickly they've accommodated uto meet our goals in such a short period time. Follow up after a Zoom meeting with Deborah Bloom (The new way to meet during the Corona Virus). I found Deborah very reassuring when reviewing our sons report. She gave simple tips and offered the best resources available to us during these times, and what to expect in the near future. All of this helps us out in the home and we have received a phone call already from one of the resources she mentioned. That was 1 business day. The professionalism and reduction in anxiety as she leads us on a path to success is so needed when we are so lost in these times, while having 2 working parents in health care is amazing!

I thought that this would have been Deborah Bloom. Sadly, it was a very expensive mistake. During the intake, she seemed knowledgeable and asked all the right questions. We discussed a plan and it was set into action within a few days. However, there are a few areas that made me cancel my contract with her and went elsewhere for representation. First, the letter that she wrote to be dropped off at the school district was full of misinformation and I had to rewrite it. Not to mention that she charged me 130$ for the letter she wrote that was useless. Second, many emails and phone calls were left unanswered. When you are dealing with the school and have a few questions about the process, it is imperative that your hired advocate is there for you. I had a hard time getting Deborah to call me back. Third, I dealt more with her office assistant than Deborah. I'm sure her assistant is very knowledgeable, but I think that having her assistant do all the legwork made the room for the issues that I faced during an IEP meeting with the school. Lastly, during the IEP meeting, Deborah was extremely unorganized and unfamiliar with my case. She missed many important topics and asked the school district for something that was never discussed between us. I was in shock when she asked this and frustrated that she did not have notes for the issues we needed to bring up during the IEP meeting. Hence, a waste of money and everyone's time. After the meeting, I called and canceled our contract. Thank goodness I could get some of my retainer back.

We had to put any purses or bags in a pile in the back of the room. But, that was before the tech area. People still cheat because now you sign up online, have to have your name on a list downstairs and show the building attendants your identification. Then you go into the elevator they tell you to and they push the button for you to go to your floor. There are no buttons in the elevator!!! Once on your floor you arrive, have to show your name, give them your ID, promise to give them your first newborn and allow them to draw a pint of blood and wait while they test it! Just kidding!!! Actually, you do show the ID and do a palm scan, fill out paperwork and sign some papers. They you go to a locker and put everything that isn't nailed down into it. Phones, glasses, purses, bags, etc. And the phone has to be turned off. Then you go to one of two rooms where you have to sign another form (I think). If you have glasses, they have to go onto a checker or something (it was a round pad). Alternatively, you may need to leave them there. I don't wear my glasses when working on a computer. Once at the room again, I had to do a hand scan. I also had to turn my pockets inside out, which is where I found the penny. I had a choice to give it to them to hold or put it in my locker. My money went into the locker. One day, I had a cardigan on (where I found the lone penny) and she patted my back to make sure nothing was in there. The woman said, "you have no idea what we've seen." I said, "I believe it. I went to college and those rich kids were masters at cheating." Anyway, you go into a room and sit at the computer they tell you to. Then you read that there is a camera on you and a microphone. Not surprised, but three tests over two days and I passed. Yay!!! The other good thing is I don't have to go back! Yay, again! Another good thing is that they have testing on the weekends. So my first two tests were on Saturday, the day after I called in to sign up for the test. I had to reschedule my next test and was able to do it easily. I appreciated this and the convenience even though I had to nearly give up an arm and a leg.

Once inside the center, you'll take a number and wait to be called to the counter. Staff will ask for your ID and confirm which test you're taking. Be prepared to follow strict rules: no phones, drinks, or food are allowed inside, and you'll need to store these items in a locker. They'll also ask you to remove jackets, so dress appropriately for the conditions inside. The workers are very stern and keep everything professional and efficient, which helps maintain a focused environment for testing. Overall, the center runs smoothly if you follow instructions, but don't expect a warm, relaxed atmosphere - it's very much about business here.

I signed up for the six-hour Saturday class and they were generous enough to have pre-study materials available so that I'd be feel more ready to take the optional state-proctored exam after the class. My instructor John(?) was great, very engaging and down to earth. I imagined I'd be rather bored in a six-hour notary lesson, but timepassed well. The information came fast but it was informative, lively and interactive. Breaks were well-timed. Not all the questions that appeared on the exam were covered in class, but MOST were; I passed the exam on the first go. Yay! It costs $40 to take the exam so I really didn't want to fork up the funds for that again... I've been able to purchase notary supply packages from them and Kim at the CNA has been especially patient in helping me figure out the steps I've needed to take as my commission has been approved. Highly recommended if you are thinking about becoming a notary public. Thanks again Kim!

I attended class on Jan 26, 2013. My day started with sign in and getting the materials, nice and easy. The teacher, Kim, is awesome and super friendly, she has been a notary for a long time so she has plenty of real world experience! She also had an assistant teacher, John, he had a different style but was also very good. We had lunch break where we did the fingerprinting and took our photos that you need for your notary test application. After lunch and a few breaks we had a final review session that refreshed everything we learned. Then the testing proctors came and after a brief set up we took the test! You find out your results in a couple of weeks after the Secretary of State processes the exam. From speaking with the instructor through email, I learned my entire class passed! The instructor even sends follow up emails to make sure that you know what the next steps are! Through out the class they offer practical wisdom and materials you can use to assist you in your notary duties. The nice thing is they have all the materials on hand and they are not overly pushy about you buying. The teachers are approachable and will assist you with any questions and even said they'd answer any e-mail questions you have after taking the class! Plus, they did a good job making a bland topic interesting! The locations are convenient as they offer the classes at local community colleges all over the bay area including Las Positas Livermore, San Mateo Community College, Santa Rosa, Visalia, San Francisco State and more!!! Thanks to the California Notary Academy I am all set to go as a Notary Public!

In the spring, I started the IEP process for my child, with concerns about dyslexia, autism, and pencil grip. Fast forward to the beginning of the next school year, and my daughter had been escaping the classroom. Since this was an "emotional issue," not a learning one, I was concerned I would not ask the right questions to get her help with her anxiety at school. Enter hiring Adrienne. When Adrienne reviewed our spring evaluations, she noticed several missing tests. She pointed out that if my daughter scored low in this, they should have done follow-up testing for that. The testing they missed conveniently showed all of the early signs of dyslexia. By the end of our last IEP meeting, my daughter now has services tailored to how she needs to learn for her visual perceptual skills and phonological processing delays. Adrienne even fought for additional time and won, adding additional goals. Adrienne asks clarifying questions to the IEP team that I would not have thought to ask. She does so in a friendly, professional manner. If you are contemplating hiring an advocate, please call Adrienne!

I kinda did. But Michele Rabin of Admissions One Consulting knew soooo much more. She started out by coaching my daughter to a good list of places to apply and then staying on her to write excellent essays and put together a great "package," including all the secret tips about how to get admissions officers to really notice you. Most impressive was that she gave really flawless insight about how to improve and deepen my daughter's essays. When I thought they were pretty darn good, Michele knew exactly where they could go deeper to really make an impression. She found the spots my kid could polish to a gleam. She definitely caught/suggested things I wouldn't have. For example: "Please describe where you've lived in your life to date, in 50 words or less." The normal thing is to list things in chron order...but no. The best answer is to focus on one place and say something memorable about it. Pretty sure she was right given my daughter's admissions success rate. Nothing but good to say about her!
