He was paid to delay my case and he ended up settling, stealing, and embezzling a large amount of money that he has not paid me. The moment my case settled, he ran off with my money to Panama/Russia. Communication vanished. Calls weren't returned. Emails were ignored. When I asked for a clear breakdown of my settlement funds -- something any client has every right to see -- I was met with silence, delays, and vague, dismissive responses. I should not have had to chase down answers about my own money. The lack of transparency was infuriating. The lack of urgency was insulting. The lack of accountability was alarming. Instead of professionalism, I experienced indifference. Instead of clarity, I got confusion. Instead of respect, I felt brushed off. This process was already stressful. Dealing with this firm made it ten times worse. If you're considering hiring them, ask hard questions upfront. Demand written timelines. Demand detailed documentation. I even told him about my bad previous experiences with other attorneys(he used the term that I was "snake bitten" by previous attorneys who I had spoken with and he assured me in certain ways that I wouldn't have this issue win him and his firm). So, I(we) hired him(it was a Will Contest matter and it was on a contingency basis). The first sorry thing this GREEDY firm did was to not even let the personal home of the person who I am helping out not be not included in Will Contest(there was plenty of money to be made with the home having to be included, so he/they are just the typical run of the mill attorney GREEDY attorney firm). But, I(we) were running out of time so we went with them out of concern over a crunched time frame. I personally wasted HOURS of my time providing them with pertinent information about the case, talking by phone over and over and over with different associates of his. I remember they had a major turnover with their employees who would come and go(looking back for whatever reason they didn't keep their employees around for very long, at least the ones who worked on our case). And then we didn't hear anything for a long long long time from them???!!! And this was a breaking point for us so I messaged Mr Sumner about my frustration about the case, the non response on their end and finally he tells me that the Will could no longer be contested???!!! WOW!!! JUST WOW!!! What kind of firm takes a case and then for whatever the reason lets it get to a point where MAYBE time ran out to contest the case???!!! I'm still confused about what happened here, because one would think that any firm who handles Wills and Trusts would know what they were doing whenever taking the case in the first place, what all to check out???!!! So of course this was upsetting news! But because Mr Sumner emailed and left a few voicemails saying that there was another angle to try and get things handled, we decided to give him/them another opportunity to handle it. Mr Sumner commented on how he knew that opposing counsel was kind of crooked and unethical and he seemed like he wasn't afraid to go up against the SORRY UNETHICAL counsel but yet time drug on and on and we were passed the point of being civil to the opposing counsel(I remember whenever hiring them I had to sign an agreement obviously and in the agreement was a notation about being civil and I guess kind to opposing counsel's BUT the point got to where the gloves needed to come off but to be honest Mr Sumner didn't have the STONES to fight back, push back what opposing counsel was throwing at us, and this is a huge part of why I am writing this more accurate review right here)! Long story short I'm helping out my nephew who's incarcerated and for a minute he(my nephew) derailed on his/our end so there was a minor setback on our end(this will be Mr Sumner's BIG follow up to this review I'm sure BUT it still doesn't excuse all of the CRAP that I/we went through until getting to this point and I HATE whenever someone has double standards, I HATE whenever someone does not treat/respect someone the way that they would want to be treated and respected! It was a difficult and personal case for me, and I trusted Sherry and her team to do her best with the information I gave her. After a couple of years of back and forth between the two, the Chandler law firm has made this process worth it by working diligently to collect a fair settlement. This team did not accept no for an answer and continued to fight for my case and make sure I received a fair compensation for my injuries. Jeremy DuCote lured me into an attorney/client agreement with false sincerity, a yellow crooked smile and promises of a successful outcome. In my opinion, he lacks honesty and integrity. As soon as the first retainer was paid, I barely ever heard from him. Jeremy filed documents on my behalf without my review or approval. He submitted my final divorce decree for signature by the Judge with multiple errors. For example, my name was misspelled on the decree, my children's information was incorrect, in addition to other critical errors made by Jeremy for matters related to health insurance and child support. The document had not been spellchecked or edited properly before he submitted it. He did not even document the Judge's rulings correctly on my FINAL Divorce decree. To add insult to injury, he refused to correct the errors he made on my divorce decree. He appears to be in desperate need of money. In my opinion and from my experiences with Jeremy over a 2 year period, He lacks integrity, honesty, professionalism, and ethics. I am not sure how he still has a law license. Major issues that I experienced with Jeremy DuCote included: Slow to No response to my legal questions. Legal documents either not filed or filed incorrectly. Inaccurate billing. Slow to No follow-up. No preparation for court as promised in the paid consultation. Filing incorrect legal documents and then billing me to correct his errors. Lack of professionalism-cursing in front of me as his client. He showed up unprepared for court. One example, Jeremy appeared hungover/disheveled at court. He then mentioned that he'd stayed up late drinking the night before because his wife and daughter went to a Beyonce concert. I love Beyonce, but unless Jesus Christ was in concert, Jeremy had no valid excuse to show up unprepared and looking the way he did at court to represent me that day. Based on his physique, I just know he wasn't on stage the night before dancing and performing with Beyonce. He had no excuse. He looked like he needed several aspirin, black coffee, and an IV. But at least his wife and daughter were able to have fun while Jeremy continued to bill me for piss poor legal services. There were countless other issues. It began to feel like he was playing a game to prolong my legal matters to run up a higher bill so he could make more money. I know a man who is hard up for cash when I see one. He may have been a decent lawyer once upon a time, but something changed with him within the past 2 years that is affecting his ability to effectively practice law. I cannot speculate what that "something" is but he's not a good lawyer and he is definitely not worth what he charges. Jeremy was arrogant and dismissive towards me when I called him out about the errors that he made to my legal documents. Jeremy showed no accountability for his errors to my legal documents. He never acknowledged my concerns or apologized. Instead he sent me a series of very condescending and aggressive emails deflecting, but never apologizing. It was like watching a TED talk on "How to Gaslight 101". I disclosed to Jeremy that I was a domestic abuse survivor, and he still made the choice to speak to me aggressively. It was very triggering. My divorce decree impacts not only myself but my children also. Jeremy acted as if we didn't matter. I hired Jeremy for a civil matter (Divorce) and from my experience I would strongly advise anyone to find a more competent, compassionate, ethical, and intelligent attorney. I feel sorry for anyone who currently has Jeremy as their legal representation. I hired him during a very difficult time in my life (divorce) and I feel that he took advantage of my vulnerability. He saw dollar signs and it seemed that he tried as hard as he could to take as much money from me as he could. I eventually caught on to what he was doing and I fired him. My divorce decree still has to be corrected by another attorney ($50,000 later), and at my expense. I hope this review saves someone else from making the mistake I made by hiring Jeremy DuCote as my legal counsel. In summary: Based on my experience with attorney Jeremy DuCote...I would not hire him to represent my cat in a legal matter and I don't even like cats. I'm allergic to them.
