Despite the short information gathering process, you should have plenty of time to discuss any issues with her and get prompt and knowledgeable answers. After being denied that visit until 7/5 I communicated a need for longer steroid (previous one ran out) and a prescription for unexpired albuterol treatments, I'd like a hard copy of all my medical records as I'm choosing to switch medical care to a doctor that employs people who also care about patients. After the visit with my doctor on 6/27 and talking to her on the phone on 7/2 re: the two prescriptions needing to be called in, on BOTH occasions the CVS on Van Dorn didn't receive 2 of the 4 medicines after the in person office visit on 6/27 and didn't receive 1 of the 3 medicines prescribed after taking to the doctor on the phone 7/2. On 6/27 they called and get the latter two filled for me contacting the doctor. As of 7/5, the CVS still doesn't have the symbicort daily inhaler that Dr. Cusicanqui told me she'd be calling in. When following up after calling the office, I was told that CVS should have told me it wasn't covered and a different one was. He claimed to have no idea nor did he volunteer to reach out to my doctor. To clarify, I called the CVS while on the phone with the office manager and he hung up on me as I tried to get them both on the line. Shortly after CVS called with me on the line and the same office manager relayed my doctor called in another inhaler without my permission or explaining the difference to me. The CVS pharmacist relayed they are not the same as the symbicort is to open up the lungs while the other is only a steroid. I have serious concerns as to why I was lied to by the office staff person 7/5 and why BOTH on 7/2 and 7/5 I was told that I need to wait to hear back from the doctor for 48 hrs after still being sick from a prior visit. I'm still bewildered by This uncharacteristic treatment from this office but, concerned enough to find a new doctor where the office is helpful, honest and compliant."

I booked the visit a couple of weeks in advance, completed all required forms, and provided my insurance information. They also required full payment upfront, explaining it would be adjusted later to account for any copays or insurance coverage. When I arrived for the appointment, the receptionist immediately informed me that Eastern Roots was not in-network with United Healthcare and that I could instead submit an out-of-network claim. That was not an acceptable option, as out-of-network costs are significantly higher. It was clear the practice knew this in advance but failed to notify me until after I had driven over an hour to get there. When I requested a refund--since I was unwilling to proceed with a provider that misrepresented their insurance status--they refused, citing their 24-hour cancellation policy. However, I hadn't canceled the appointment; I arrived in good faith, expecting coverage. Only once I learned the true facts, which the clinic already knew, did I decline to continue. To make matters worse, the owner, Sarah Alemi, did not speak with me directly and instead sent an email referencing the cancellation policy. At this point, I have disputed the charge with my credit card company. I would strongly caution others to verify network participation and transparency before booking with this practice

After reading the reviews for Dr. Purkert on Healthgrades.com, vitals.com, and in various discussion boards related to thyroid cancer, I decided to move forward with him. My wife and I were highly anxious about this situation, but Dr. Purkert's calm and patient demeanor went a long way towards setting us at ease. He rationally and unhurriedly explained everything about the surgery, the disease itself, and went over all questions we had. It's hard to say anything is "great" related to cancer, but really the experience is best described as such. He took all the time we needed, and we never felt rushed. Plus, he has a very calm way about him that was reassuring. As for the surgery, he performed it remarkably at Inova Fairfax Hospital. The man has skill, for sure. He removed the entire thyroid, but was able to save all four parathyroids. In fact, he even removed one parathyroid, checked it for cancer, and re-implanted it successfully. No nerve damage/vocal changes. I am only six months out, and already the scar is shockingly small. I feel it was a wise decision to go with Dr. Purkert. His positive reputation in thyroid surgeries is well-deserved.

After being told by two doctors that Dr Purkert was the go-to guy for parathyroid surgery, I initially met him to discuss my situation and found that Dr Purkert has an excellent patient manner. He is neither condescending nor arrogant, but makes you feel like an old friend. As a result of our initial meeting, I decided to go forward with the surgery with him. I had more concerns about the anaestheology than the procedure itself. The procedure went smoothly and less than a week later, I have experienced less pain and discomfort than expected. Although surgery is never an attractive option, if it becomes necessary then I could recommend Dr Purkert without hesitation. Would use his services again should the need ever arise. As for the Inova part, you can expect all the difficulties associated with an enormous bureaucracy, but somehow they manage to get the job done.

I say hello are you taking new patients, the woman responded "yes", I followed with I need an adjustment today if possible but I'll take the next available appointment, I'm in pain and have discomfort in my neck, shoulders and hips. The woman immediately asked me about insurance, I provided her the insurance information but informed her my policy did not take effect until February and that I would be paying out of pocket. Immediately the woman says "we don't take your insurance", I said no problem I'll pay out of pocket. Immediately the woman say "well we're about to close but I can refer you to Dr. Connolly at the Spine Center, he takes your insurance ". I said I understand but I'm in pain and I'm paying out of pocket as my insurance does not take effect until February, the woman writes Dr. Connolly's name on the back of her business card and says "he can help you, we're about to close and I'm going on vacation so I can't schedule you". By the end of the appointment I made sure I would not deal with her again. Let me explain. I am 78 years old. I felt a lump in my right armpit a couple of months ago. I then phoned the personal physician I had for many years before moving. He asked if the lump was painful. It wasn't. He said I needed to see my current health care provider immediately. For starters, I would need blood work and a diagnostic mammogram. I then called my current health care provider, Arlington Medical Associates, to make an appointment. After explaining the symptoms to the office manager, I was scheduled to see Rohina Ahmed, a Nurse Practitioner. The office manager put a note on my records, "Lump in Armpit." Rohina Ahmed entered the exam room, apologizing for being late. Apparently she hadn't noticed the note on my file. "You're here for a follow-up visit. Right?" "Mm - no I have a lump in my right armpit." Rohina then started to rapidly go through my records, at the same time asking if cancer ran in my family. It did. Of course, it was in my records, but she clearly hadn't read my records until that very moment. I then expected her to ask if I had any symptoms like night sweats, fatigue, etc. She didn't. Instead she began going through my chart and mentioned that maybe I needed a thyroid test. She then noted that I hadn't had a colonoscopy in 10 years. At this point I decided to cut to the chase. I said I had previously spoken with a physician. He said I needed 2 things immediately: blood work and a diagnostic mammogram. Rohina asked me to wait a moment. She went in to consult with a physician in the medical practice. When she returned, she said we could proceed with a Routine Mammogram, and a Thyroid Test. I immediately walked into Dr. Vidwan's office, uninvited, and explained the situation. Dr. Vidwans edited Rohina's proposed directive. The thyroid test was scratched. The "routine mammogram screening" was changed to "a diagnostic mammogram." Dr. Vidwans then ordered my blood to be drawn immediately at the office so it could be sent in that day for testing by a lab. In short, my experience with Rohina Ahmed was that she came late. She hadn't a clue why I had made the appointment. She hadn't done her homework by reviewing my records. And she ordered tests that were not specifically relevant to my condition.
