This review is for Aidan Brogan, one of the barbers at Pro Style. I have not tried the other barbers so I can't speak for them. Aidan may not be a stylist but that's okay with me. He's a real barber and he pays a lot of attention to your hair. I always get a nice clean cut from him with great consistency. I'm a no frills kind of guy and I like my haircut short and neat. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm pretty sure I'll be going back to him as long as I'm working nearby because the experience is hard to beat. He uses a razor to shave the back of your neck, a small massager to loosen up your shoulders, and a hot towel to open the pores on your face. All standard at $29. I highly recommend his services. I used to hate getting my hair cut. I put off getting a haircut for almost a year I hated getting my hair cut so badly. Then I found this place. Aidan Brogan is the best. He does an awesome job everytime, he is very personable and he is reasonably priced (bring cash). I now look forward to getting a haircut, knowing that I will come out feeling like a million bucks. Sometimes they have a person working who can shine your shoes while you get your haircut, but there wasn't anyone doing that the last time I was in there. The two other older Italian guys have cut my hair before, and they do alright. I don't like not being able to talk to my barber though (they mumble, and I'm a bit hard of hearing from all the loud music in my youth) so I'll probably stick with Aidan regardless of what location he's cutting hair at in the future. read more

[Pro-Style:Aidan] I have tried nearly every "high-end" salon in SF, following recommendations from citysearch.com (for those of you old enough to remember when they were relevant) and yelp.com. Had some good cuts along the way, but none have garnered my allegiance like @Aidan has. Just a GREAT cut without the muss and fuss. The barbers are great guys and make great talk, but I did not get what I wanted. I showed multiple photos and he didn't get close to what I wanted. He did not clean the cut hair off my neck or shoulders or stop the hair from going down my back by covering me up with a mat. The cover was loosely placed on me and when it fell off he didn't put it back on; now my back and shoulders are super itchy. He cut my hair how he wanted it to look and not how I wanted it to look. He might be good at giving one style haircut, but he is not trained in giving modern styles for younger men. Failed in cutting a fade. Like how can one fail at cutting a fade? I will not be going back to this barber shop! I went for a quick cut but and it took him three tries to get it shorter...fade short; like buzz that shit! I will be going to another barber tomorrow. This is a shop where you can get consistent clean cuts plus good conversation. Nigel was my "go to" for 3 years. I later found out that a few of my good friends went here. Call for an appointment to lock in a time. All my cuts passed the "wifey" approval test, haha! read more

This review is for Aidan, as I think the two bad reviews here got him mixed up with others, as they both seem to mention "old guy." Aidan is the younger dude. Aidan has been cutting my hair since I moved to SF from NYC, where he also used to cut. The guy is by far the best cut around. He definitely follows your instructions and always checks before cutting, even after you become a regular. I am basically going to go to him in whatever shop he works in. The shop is no-frills and I actually think that's a great thing- the conversations usually have me in stitches and yes, really random documentaries and the History Channel get more airtime here than House music in a Miami club, but that just cracks me up. The place just works as a guys' barber shop. Aidan is a top choice regardless of whatever shop he's in-- and this one is fine, seriously. Go here. I went in - was welcomed by everyone working - and the shop fell back to chewing the fat while I waited. Nigel set me up in a chair, listened to what I which cut I wanted and actually proceeded to do just what I had in mind, only better. He answered my questions about the barber shop while he worked. That can be good or bad. Some people can't talk and pay attention to what they're doing (which is alarming if they have sharp objects near your head in their hands) - he can! Before the straight razor came out I knew I could relax - I was going to look sharp! He did a fantastic job trimming my beard short and then detailing it with the straight razor. Its the 1st time I've ever had a straight razor shave and man - it was smooth! If you're in the Financial and have an important networking event to nail (like I did), stop at Pro Style! Just got my haircut by Armando. He did an awesome job, listened to what I wanted and then provided his own great advice. I really wanted to go with Nigel, but when I called up and asked who was the most experienced Armando said he had been doing this for 40 years, which is a lot of experience. Came here during my lunch hour to get a quick hair cut because I didnt have time after work. Became an instant regular right after. The guys there know what they are doing and it is always a fun time there talking to the barbers. Inexpensive for what you get, which is a quality haircut and is located near a lot of offices. When I was a little lad, my mother and not my father would bring me to get my haircut. Being the good momma that she was (and continues to be) she brought me to a barbershop. Not her salon. Let me repeat that. Loudly. SHE BROUGHT ME TO A BARBERSHOP AND NOT A SALON TO GET MY HAIR CUT. My pops took over the duties when I was past the toddler years, and he brought me to the same barbershop. In college I went to the Marine barber on campus. He charged 5 bucks. He did not even own a pair of scissors. He did not ask questions at the end of the haircut like..."any gel?" He cut my damn hair. After college I went to the same barber for years. I would walk in, sit in the chair, and say "the usual Joe." He would go to work. Then I came to San Francisco. I could not find a real BARBER. I was doomed. I went to Supercuts because there was no way in HELL that a good red blooded American lad like myself was going to a salon. And my haircuts generally sucked dong. Then I discovered Pro Style. My fiance changed jobs and now works in Embarcadero 3, which is where Pro Style is located. Don't let the name fool you. This is a real barbershop. That means barber chairs and dudes sitting around reading a real newspaper and watching horrible TV. They have clippers and straightrazors and hot lather and witchhazel and hot towels and everything a real barbershop should have. I went to Aidan. Damn the man is good. Armando has been cutting my hair for the past three years and likely will be for many years to come. I went through the different barber/barber shop every time I get a hair cut routine for many years - more times than not I left the barber shop upset; a few times I actually had to buzz my head because the cut was so terrible (supper cuts go figure). I enjoy Pro-Style for the following three reasons: 1. Consistency - Armando has been cutting hair for several years and knows what he is doing. He cuts my hair the exact same way each visit, it is reassuring to know that you are going to get the same result every time. 2. Connivence - Pro-Style is always open when I want it to be - I can almost always get a hair cut "day of" by calling in an appointment four hours before hand. Armando also works weekends which is awesome. 3. Conversation - Everyone inside the barber shop is easy to shoot the bull with, very laid back atmosphere that fosters enjoyable conversations. If you want the true pro-style experience ask for Armando (the owner) - expect a great cut and a neck shave for a reasonable rate. read more

I'm not a big reviewer on here, but I thought this shop deserved a minute of my time to just say that for $25 (cash only, but there is an ATM nearby), you get a solid cut by some nice people. Very pleasant experience, used a straight blade on the edges, and took the time to make sure the details were right (without taking too long). I'm a happy customer and will return, which is not something I've been able to say for most hair places that charge less than $50 (which isn't worth it for a guy with short hair). read more

I've been getting haircuts from Nigel for roughly 3yrs, and I believe for justifiable reasons. Nigel is markedly meticulous: he will spend 20 to 30min to ensure that the cut is symmetric, proportional, and well faded. He is also an easygoing person that can keep a solid conversation going, so none of that awkward silence barber. The cut is $28 (cash only), which I consider as extremely reasonable for this level of service and quality in SF, where comparable barbers wouldn't hesitate to charge $40-50. For me, like most men, haircuits typically fall into a vast mediocrity of "meh." The overwhelming majority are fine, no damage done, check the box type errands. It takes a lot to get a really poor haircut. Even more to get a really great one. Aidan is a great barber. I stumbled on him through Yelp reviews when I first moved to San Francisco and have not strayed since. He listens to your requests, but also has good intuition about what works. Besides the haircuit itself, the experience couldn't be better. The hot towel on the face and the next massage are fine, and help you feel better about the price. But the real kicker for me is solid, interesting, conversation about most everything in the world. Ask for Aidan (though the other barbers give a decent haircut in a pinch) and book in advance. read more

I get my hair cut by Aidan and the guy is a serious professional. He takes his time cutting your hair and makes sure you are completely satisfied with the cut. Afterwards he'll give you a neck shave with a razor, a hot towel on the face, and a back and scalp massage. Cuts are more expensive that your standard Supercuts prices but you get your moneys worth ($30-35). I've recommended at least 5 people over to Aidan who are now regulars. You can also get your shoes shined while cutting a cut if you are into that sort of thing. read more

This review is for Aidan, but first a quick review of the shop. Not a huge place but in a fantastic location for me. My Building! As the other reviews mention it has the feel of an old school barber shop with the most random history channel/national geographic type fare on the TV pipping through a genuine VHS player. To Aidan: He did a great job on my hair. My hair can be a bit hard to cut as it is super thick and varies between wavy and curly depending on length (and how lazy I've been in getting it cut). To cut my hair it has to be super wet but when its wet it actually shrinks/thins out quite a bit. Without me even mentioning it he knew it needed a quick blow dry and touch up once dry to get it just right as my hair seems to expand as it drys. He was super attentive to detail and an easy guy to chop it up with while getting my hair down to a respectable length. Will definitely be a return customer. read more
