I look in rear view mirror and camera screen to notice the door was still down....tried again, see the light turn on and starts to go up...then bounces no more than about half inch in close position. Thinking possibly something fell over in the garage and tripped the sensor causing it to not open. Enter the garage from the interior and quickly assessed the problem --"broken spring". A label for business "C.D." who installed the garage door with phone number, so I called and left a voicemail. The next day, I called back after 8am and the phone rings and rings. Fast forward, good thing I asked a friend for a back up company just in case. My friend highly recommended Garage Door Specialist and sent me their contact information. Thank goodness! If my friend would have sent email sooner, I might have had same day service. Nonetheless, the particulars. I called in the morning AND the phone was answered by Jessica. Jessica is pleasant, took the particulars and had a technician in the area and asked if homeowner available between 10am-12pm. I stated "yes!" and hopefully closer to 10am as I had an important conference meeting to attend. Then, I received notification of the Technician who would be in touch. Another text when technician was on the way. Our Technician, Saul, arrived before 10am! After introductions, entered the house to inside the garage. Confirmed broken spring and looked over the equipment. It is the original since 2006. I asked Saul if we should change the whole garage door system versus parts necessary NOW and a potential problem or issue shortly after today. Saul stated he would get hi tool for measurements, then give me quote/estimate. Reviewed quickly and approved work to be done. Also mentioned to Jessica and Saul about military veteran and a referral. A discount was issued. *Note to owner: please consider offering the standard 10% discount versus $25 for first responders and educators as service providers in the area offer even if just on parts, thank you. As Saul went to vehicle to get supplies, I received a return call from "C.D". I thanked and said that a Technician is here just getting ready to do the repair! Impeccable timing. Saul finished quickly as I did not set timer...everything was tested and perfected by Saul. Then handed me device to enter payment and called office, Michelle answered. Payment confirmed, got some business cards. Mission completed in one visit on same day of phone call! THANK YOU very much! Unfortunately I did not have cash on hand to give to Saul to buy lunch, might want to consider that on the app when paying (suggestion). Again, Technician and experience with Garage Door Specialist solid 5 stars . After getting home from work, I called the business, Michelle answered and I identified myself and asked to speak with the owner. She placed on brief hold and transferred call to speak with Jimmy. I thanked Jimmy for taking my call and wanted to share our positive experience with his company the same day! Keep up the good work and I will refer to our neighbors and friends in the area without hesitation. Of course no one anticipates having a problem when a convenient press of the button permits moving freely in and out of the garage. Yet a major inconvenience when a part fails wreaking havoc and unexpected challenge and expense now. May this review ease the pain of searching for a garage door repair company. Save yourself aggravation and contact Garage Door Specialist. Thank you everyone for your assistance and resolution today! Solid 5 stars from initial contact, service, and payment.

It's time like this I wish I could give zero stars. Skylift was the installer for my new…read moreconstruction home. The door lasted all of 10 months before catastrophically failing. One day when my wife was backing out there was a large bang and all the top and bottom rollers flew off, and top panel was irreparably damaged. I believe there were maybe 3 rollers in the middle panel preventing a complete collapse. Upon calling skylift in to warranty their work, the technician accused me of sabotaging the door by placing a stick under it while closing (nevermind that built in safety mechanisms would have prevented the door from closing if that were the case, as was demonstrated at the arbitration hearing), and refused to do any repairs. On top of that the technician physically threatened me for not accepting his laughable excuse not to cover the door. I'm going to give you a quote from Skylift's official response: "The installation itself was done properly and to the manufacturer specifications and has operated properly for over a year [this is a lie, it was 10 months] with no documented warranty visits. It's not covered under out labor warranty or the manufacturer product warranty". First of all, the installation was not done properly according to independent third parties. Both a home inspector and company which performed repairs noted among other things that: 1) The tracks were too wide 2) The door was not tensioned properly. 3) The cable drum was not flush with the bearing plate. I believe that all of these things contributed to one of the cables jumping out of the drum and snagging, which then led to complete failure of the door. And second, these clowns were touting the fact that their brand new door in a brand new house almost made it a year without breaking as something to be proud of. Really, Skylift? Operating properly for almost a year is something you're proud of and to be used in your defense? Is that a record for Skylift or something? The garage door on my previous house was still working after 20+ years of service. I ended up going to arbitration under the warranty contract and winning, and even with a legal ruling in our favor we decided it was too risky to let these people work on the door. Our fear was that they'll probably just do the bare minimum, and in another year or so the door will pop out again, possibly on a car or worst case a child. That door was a ticking time bomb. Let that sink in: even after winning the arbitration process we decided it wasn't worth the safety risk to let these people near our house again. I highly recommend you go to a more reputable company who does proper installations and stands behind their work. Shame on you, Skylft!

It's great to have a working garage door again. It's rare to get great service like this. I'm impressed! I do my research and am mechanically skilled. Door Dummies is a legit father/son team using US parts and US labor you can trust. They put relationships over profit which is rare in this marketplace. Dual spring replacement should cost around $400-$500. It's unfortunate to learn there are other scammers out there charging $1000+ for these services with fake warranties to grandmas. I got bids on Yelp with people charging the the most, with the most reviews, and have the least valuable services if you look deep enough. It's good to replace both springs and potentially end plate bearings each time. Door Dummies will be honest if you need those replaced. Average spring life is about 7-10 years. It's worth contacting Door Dummies to check these out if you are in that age range. Getting stuck in your garage when they snap is dangerous. Door Dummies is a honest company and you should help them build this business on original North Carolina values.
