January 2016 I hurt my back. I then learned I had several herniated disks in my back along with other issues. I tried a different physical therapist in February and left every appointment crying in pain. Needless to say, I stopped going. As things continued to not get any better, I went to Prizm Pain Management in June 2016 and I received 2 spinal injections into my two main herniated disks to try and heal the bulge. Unfortunately, any relief I felt from the injections was gone in about a week. By the time the P.A. at Prizm suggested I try P.T. there, I had acquired this shift in my hips that kind of made me look like the let's "c" as I walked. I had learned to "fix" the shift on my own. When I started P.T. in September 2016, I had just been given a back brace, that John (the P.T.) then told me to wear minimally. I am going to be real, P.T. was horrible again. I hated going. So I stopped after going two or three times. But when I went back to the P.A. he told me to try again because they're good at changing the way they help you. So I reluctantly went back, with a slight attitude probably. That was around October 2016. It's now July 2017. I am not completely better, but I'm doing so much more than I was! I could barely walk to the car, and in the car I had to lay down. Now I can be the driver and drive hours away! I could only lay on my belly, now I can lie just about anyway I want, thank God! Then, I could only sit for like two minutes, now I'm back in college and sitting through entire classes no problem! And that shift I had in my hips is so minimal when it does appear! I was a hopeless mess and I had started having panic attacks when I started thinking about the test of my life, but now I'm hopeful for the future. On the advice and recommendation of friends, I switched physical therapists to Dr. John Putnam, and it was the BEST DECISION EVER. He did more for me in my first visit than the first PT did in 4. Dr. Putnam impressed me for a few reasons; one is that usually I would have to fill out a bunch of paperwork explaining every history of every detail, of every ailment. Not with Dr. Putnam. He skillfully learned all he needed to know by just an exam of my posture etc...I was impressed because his assessment was accurate. Dr. Putnam and all the staff made sure I was always doing the exercises correctly. He reminds me of a puzzle solver who already knows the answers. LOL It is evident in his care that he has a passion for this kind of healing - a quality that everybody wants in their doctor. For me I am someone who throws everything and the kitchen sink at a problem, to solve it and I feel that Dr. Putnam and staff did the same with my excellent (and progressive) therapy. They gave me tons of exercises to do at home in between visits and within a few weeks my neck strength has increased dramatically and my pain level has gone down to zero on most days. Also it is an extra bonus that his entire staff is knowledgeable and personable as well. They make everyone there, feel cared for. I highly recommend this physical therapy clinic! I have been to physical therapy several separate times before, so it's easy to compare treatments between therapists. One (out of many) reason why John and his team at Prizm stand on top of the rest is their relentless pursuit to their patients. Every time I visited, I did different exercises and John tried many different treatments on me. This showed me that John and his team are truly thinking of the best way to treat me. John is incredibly knowledgeable in his field and is always continuing his education, therefore giving his patients the most up-to-date treatment. There are no large pieces of equipment in the clinic - just tables and small pieces of equipment like light weights, Thera bands and weighted balls. He uses other treatments like edging, dry needling and a lot of manual therapy. Whatever treatment John suggests, give it a try. This clinic is one of the few that uses different treatments, so know that you are in good hands. John and his team take the time to understand your needs, ask you every time you walk in how you are feeling and you even get some comic relief by his team. I had some experience with Dr. Rizvi in the same office, too. He and John communicated together several times about my care. Prizm PT is wonderful. I herniated my L5-S1 back in September. Went through PT elsewhere for 8 weeks with no improvements at all. Doctors wanted to do surgery to relieve my pain. I was all scheduled for surgery before I found out about Prizm and I'm glad that I did. After one session I noticed a difference that I hadn't gotten from the other physical therapist. I went ahead and pushed off surgery. Since December/January I've been going Almost weekly and the improvements I've made with the help of Prizm PT and its staff have been amazing. I am just about to start swinging a golf club again and I was able to avoid back surgery before the age of 25! Not only is staff friendly but they are very knowledgeable and work well as a team. The other thing that is great is the staffs flexibility. I've been early or late a few times and they've always been able to accommodate me. I would (and have) recommended Prizm PT. The staff treats you like a criminal. You have to bring left over medication and account for every pill or patch at each visit. You mostly never see the doctor. Nurse practionioners seevyou and they all have major attitudes ! Always long waits to see the nurse. They try to get you to put a surgical device in your spine instead of pain meds.The male office manager has the worst attitude of all. They only see patients Monday through Thursday, so you are out of luck if your pain issue happens on their day off. Dr. Roseburg is the only good thing about the place. I was discharged from Phyical Therapy yesterday. I had such a good experience with this group. I'm so much stronger than I was win I first started. They pushed the exercise but I needed the push. After the exercise i would get edging and then needleing. The Dr. is the only one that puts the needles in. All the staff work with you. There all good and they all work together. The team at Prizm PT is amazing! TMJ SUFFERERS: Try dry needling!! I have suffered with headaches and very limited range of motion in my jaws for many years--after just ONE dry needling session, my range of motion greatly improved, stiffness and clicking/popping noises in the jaws were eliminated, and headaches decreased in frequency and intensity. I hurt my knee at soccer and couldn't run or kick the ball. It was hurt for two months and a friend told me to go see them. I was there for an hour and felt better after.
