If you enjoy writing a critical review based on observation and experience, then Café de la Mairie…read morein Deauville has to be the place for you!!! The arrogance and rudeness of the personnel are nothing less than awe-inspiring. After ordering a round of drinks for my family, which included en €5 pre-opened bottle of mineral water which had been replaced with tap water, the waiter asked if we wanted to order something to eat. Earlier that day we promised our 5-year old son that he could have a crêpe. When the waiter arrived I audaciously ordered the crêpe my 5 year old had been looking forward too all day. Much to my surprise, the waiter bluntly refused to prepare it because 'the were a restaurant and a crêpe was a desert.' I subsequently realised that the old, sticky, worn-out menu and the words 'Creperie' had put me on the wrong foot. Instead of asking if we'd like to order something else, the waiter hurried off with a very sour expression on his face and presented us, unasked, with a rather steep bill for a café au lait, 2 Oranginas and a refilled Vittel bottle of lukewarm tap water. The most striking thing was the fact that the personnel went to the utmost trouble not to look me in face, even when I politely payed the bill. I have never experienced such rudeness, utter arrogance and being given such a cold shoulder in the hospitality industry in my entire life, and I have been all over France and Europe, including the Côte d'Azur, Paris, London and Rome. I sincerely hope that this review helps Le Café de la Maire in Deauville in their endeavour to become a bona fide restaurant instead of a complacent crêperie being hell-bent on ripping off clients and leaving them in shock with their utter rudeness, arrogance and complete disregard for being hospitable.
