To do your civic duty is such an unwanted task, but something you have to do or end up on the other side. This was my second time in being called to jury duty, first time after becoming a resident of Maryland. This time, was exhausting and threw off my daily schedule. I did as much research on this as I could. I seriously did not want to make a misstep with this journey. Do yourself a favor and do the same. Basically you'll want to make note of parking, time of arrival, time it will take you to be here (could be all day, could not), what you can and cannot bring with you, and a few other things. Prepare yourself, it'll be a long day. Parking is available nearby at the horse racing track. Once there you can do one of two things. Wait for the bus which will be packed with those of us in zombie mode or you can walk the short distance to the courthouse. Don't worry, it is much closer than you think and sometimes it is quicker to do the walk. Then condition yourself for the day's theme, 'hurry up and wait.' To enter the courthouse to fulfill your civic duty you will wait in a long line to get through security. Also to note, each time you go outside, whether it be for lunch or a smoke break, you will have to go back through security. Much like airport security, no belt, no watch, nothing in your pockets...you get to keep your shoes on. Once through security, you think you are free, WRONG. Make your way up three floors to discover that there is a line that is just as long to enter the jury waiting room. Once inside and checked in, wait. They tell you to be there at the courthouse by 7:30 in the morning, however, no matter what you do, they will not start on time. The amount of people called for jury duty is huge. So hope that you are there at least a little bit early to get a decent sitting spot. The jury lounge is currently in the midst of remodel and fills up fast. Once you find your spot for the morning, wait. I can echo what one reviewer said prior, the lady who does the rundown of the procedures and day should have her own talk show. 'Bug,' as she wishes you address her, keeps you alert on your already tiresome day. She commands the room and gives a rundown of how things will go for the day. She lets you know where the area food is once it is lunchtime and then you start to be divided up into your color coded groups. Take heed when they tell you to go to the restroom, once you have been called, use the restroom, it may be a long time before you have a break to do so later. This portion goes a bit smoothly, but the anxiety tied to it is not welcomed. Some color coded groups hardly had the roster called and were already being pulled to their respective courtrooms. It felt like forever before my name was called for my group. I ran to the restroom, snuck in a smoke break, and came back to the room. I had things to keep me busy all day, prepared for the long haul. No sooner than coming back into the room my color coded group was called. I had prepared to enter a room and see if I would be put on a jury. To my surprise, and everyone else in the color coded group, we were dismissed for the day. Whatever jury we were being pooled for settled before pulling us in. We were told to hold up our color coded number as we exited and were set free for the day. I was one of the lucky ones. Now, here's the thing, once you are dismissed or finish your day, whether selected for a jury or not, do not discard your summons. Keep it, take a picture of it, laminate if you want. You may be summoned again in a year, but since you showed up and did your civic duty, you are good for three years. Keep your summons so if you are called again, you can present proof that you already served. Overall, not a bad day, but not the best day. I would have much rather fought through DC traffic to drive to work, it would have taken less time. One last thing, I got a kick out of their dress code on their summons. read more

I'm ion the middle of another sign permit application with PGC. It has taken over a year to get to this stage and we are still nowhere is site of receiving the actual Permit. It's not only the redundancies in Project Dox, Efiles or Momentum its that you cannot reach a plan reviewer to answer a question or get current updates! Who in their right mind would think have a 3 site submission set of platforms was a good idea? It is a massive waste of time for the applicant. Their staff waste all their time training applicants on how the system is suppose to works and nothing get done in any sort of a timely fashion. This is a disservice to the commercial community. Businesses that want to set up shop to offer the wares to the community, hire local employees and pay the taxes are severally penalized by the County with this redundant...overtly boreoarctic quagmire of a permitting system. What could be improved?! Christ! Staffing? Supervision? I went with a friend as support to help them update their child support paperwork (8/16/2024 noonish) and the admin girl on duty was so unprofessional I literally almost forgot where I was. My friend was never disrespectful or loud when asking their questions on why the support wasn't coming out and her retort in a nasty tone (twice) was, "oh we don't do dat here!" My friend asked if she was having a bad day or something because what was the attitude for and said she was just ready to go home and that my friend needed to go to Temple Hills to remedy their problem. For the amount of people that really need jobs right now, do better with your front facing admin clerks who are supposed to be helping the community because with someone else that situation may have escalated. read more

I rarely give reviews but I needed to with this one. Spoke to a staff member to get answers and clarification about jury duty and she was just the rudest. Wish I had gotten her name so I can blast her on here! If you hate your job that much just leave! You don't need to be an asshole to people that's just trying to get help. The fact that I was able to hold it in and stayed calm about it was literally a super power bc I almost went off ! Didn't want to mess up my day over a disrespectful, lack of customer service skills, job hating nobody as it was pointless. Hopes she stubs her toe. read more

Honestly, if I could give the PG County Clerk of the Circuit Court negative stars I would! As a former employee no doubt I would have been there longer. The people are okay and the work is learnable. The pay is competitive (although it could be better). The management however, is the absolute worst! From top on down. The clerk DOES NOT care about her employees! She run it as if it's a dictatorship! My way or leave! She'll also let you know that if you do decide to leave it's other people waiting to join the clerks office. Several complaints or grievances were not filed against her due to the fear of potentially losing their employment! It's no chance for advancement unless you are in the "uppers" circle or if the Clerk "likes you". Most of the supervisor or management positions are given to friends or friends of friends. Jobs are often not given to an employee if the Clerk does not want you in that position. I loved where I worked, my immediate supervisor and coworkers, I just couldn't stay at a place who cared more about you being there (sick, injured, stressed or grieving) than your well being. read more

Memorandum specifically states "designate with a clerk to ..." then the clerk says they can't give legal advise and sends me to a "free attorney." What's the point of sending a memorandum that specifically states what to do if your clerks aren't actually going to follow through? Beyond being annoying this is the exact reason why people don't know how to file documents. There isn't a simple procedure for the public to understand how to file documents. Instead we have to wait in unnecessarily long lines while court employees chat about weekend promiscuity instead of helping us move along. It's no wonder why it takes weeks upon weeks to have petitions answered. Walking into these county court houses is like walking into a high school hallway except everyone is of legal drinking age. I shouldn't know which employees are cheating on spouses and which ones had sexual escapades unsafely... but I do since your employees are highly unobservant and unaware of their surroundings. Stop wasting people's time and do your job! read more

I was in the courthouse for jury duty. Spoiler alert, I was not assigned to a trial. Loathed the security checkpoint, I thought the evildoers were all coming in through the basement. The jury lounge was fairly comfortable, had free WiFi and decent coffee, also free. The lady who did the briefing ought to have her own talk show. In a few days I'll be too old to be called again, and won't really miss it - way too early in the morning. read more

WORST STAFF EVER!!! The disrespect they have in their voices when someone calls is very unnerving. I had to call because of a letter one of my parents and when I wanted to get great clarification, there was a young woman who answered the phone and was a total BITCH!! Then another lady was talking to me, would not let me get a word in and was just plain disrespectful! They need to restaff their employees. (Don't ask me no questions, I won't tell you no lies...) I have very extensive experience(s) with this particular courthouse. There's no need to discuss details as to how I acquired such experiences, but let's just say they are many and varied and span the distance between my first appearance at 16 to the present day. As such, I can probably offer some helpful details. Let me just say that the judges here are incredibly friendly, unlike the experiences I've had with judges from the surrounding states and districts. For some reason, they really care about you. And they're very fair. (I was not co-erced to make this statement. Pinky swear.) I've recently been here for jury duty and that was also quite a pleasant experience. Sure, I had to wait for hours before being selected, but they provided donuts and there are a lot of magazines in the waiting room. Still, I would suggest bringing your own entertainment, though. The folks around me were very friendly, if not frustrated that they had to be there. Nonetheless, I've had quite a few good convos with my fellow peers here. Curiously, they allow laptops and cell phones, but NOT cameras. Weird, because almost all cellies nowadays have cameras. If you have to get your Interwebz on while waiting for some sort of deliberation, there is a law library on the 1st floor (which is, in actuality, the 2nd floor--you'll know what I mean when you see it) and it has very interesting reading. Parking is pretty sweet. You could park on the street, but that's dumb, because you'll find yourself going out and pumping the meter w/ quarters (only quarters allowed) and then go through the security line again. Just use the parking garage. It's about $6 for the whole day, but you can pay for less than that, if you're not staying long. (I always have to stay.... long time.) Quick Tip: If you're caught for speeding, don't bother pleading guilty or innocent. Just ask for probation before judgment (PBJ), pay the court fines, and you're outta there. No points, just $$$ to pay. You're welcome. read more

Hip hip hooray for Jury Duty! Seems like a drag when you first get the notice - but remember as it relates to court systems and judgments be thankful you live in America and this is privilege! So pack up your stuff, bring your patience, and start off the day with a smile I brought CRAP load of stuff with me - and don't regret it one bit even though it was more time I spent in the security line. I read every word on that notice and took it to heart thick sweater jacket: they forewarned waiting room would be cold. it was freezing. omg. thank goodness I brought that thing. Not some lightweight layer, but a full on sweater jacket food: yes. I brought lunch *and* snacks. I feared the vending machines would be "out of service" and/or during lunch time all lines would be so long that I'd have no time to eat. I know, a little anal, but I get really upset when I'm hungry. I'm not myself. Kind of like the situation those Snickers commercials depict laptop: they said they had internet and a place to work. I took that literally, and was pleasantly surprised! The entire back wall near the windows (that overlooks the front of the courthouse - nice!) is laptop friendly. I got A LOT of work done during the wait. I was so grateful I brought it chargers: for my phone and for my laptop. With coffee, water, laptop, and phone, I had my office in that place, with plenty of electrical juice. Thank you taxpayers. patience: at least they forewarned you it will be a long day. Once you are mentally prepared for this, it makes it so much easier watch: as above. but then again, it's like watching water boil. but still... The waiting room is nice. There are magazines to read. Again, I brought my laptop to do work. There is internet access so I was very serious in my time there. The lady that explains the whole process was EXCELLENT. The room is cold - I was prepared - bring multiple layers. I also brought things to eat. They have a big ol' clean fridge to put your stuff in, along with a couple microwaves. Tons of coffee too - what is this 7-11? It's a nice touch. TVs everywhere on CNN. Do your duty! read more

I had to get my marriage license and everything went well only reason I took a star is they don't carry change and they told us if we used a credit card it's $5 fee and that's a big rip off to me. Better to go in person to get anything done. I have called 200 times trying to get information about wavers I turned in for parenting class I'm being made to take. I just keep getting the run around. I have gotten sent all over the court house while carrying my daughter, so I thought doing things over the phone would be easier. I'm sad to say it's not. I have actually broken down crying from frustration dealing with people at the court house. Wasting my minutes and time trying to get simple answer about the wavers. Oh and I should add that any papers I have filled out and handed in always seemed to be marked as filed but never ended up in the files. So I would have to redo paper work. I don't leave reviews, but I must share the most ridiculous experience I had today. My fiance and I went to the marriage license department to apply for a marriage license. We read all the information online before coming, and thought that we were good to go. However, the incompetence of the department staff turned what should have been a 15 minute process into a 2 hour journey of stupidity. For most married couples, the process of applying for a marriage license was a stress-free process. This experience was anything but, and, in fact, was like banging your head against a chalkboard. From the jump, we knew we were in trouble. After going through security, my fiance and I started off signing our names on the sign-in sheet. Despite two employees being free, no one assisted or greeted us. They stood at the window chatting and laughing. Only when they were finished with their conversation, one employee decided to finally acknowledge us. We provided our social security numbers and driver licenses (for identification), and raised our right hands to swear that our answers provided would be truthful. My fiance was previously married, but it was annulled. The website states "If previously married, Applicant must provide the complete final date of divorce, or if widowed, the complete date of death, where applicable." Nothing about annulments, but that's cool, my fiance was ready to provide the date regardless. We didn't print any paperwork to bring because the website did not mention having to. However, the employee assisting us said that the date alone was not enough, and that we need to come back and provide physical proof to her of the annulment. My fiancee asked if she could just see the email with the proof (annulment decree), or have it emailed to her, and she responded no. So we went back home, printed out the proof, and returned to the office. Upon returning, we were assisted by another employee. We restarted the process and when asked about being previously married, the employee assisting us only said that she needed the date of annulment, nothing about physical proof. Once again, it seems that no one who works here knows what they are doing. After we were almost finished with the process, the employee takes my fiance's card to charge the $70 application fee, and tells us to sit and wait for the receipt. AND THEN PROCEEDS TO DISAPPEAR FOR OVER 15 MINUTES. NO ONE CAN FIND HER. We wait for her to return, and then eventually just end up signing in again so someone can call our name and we can wrap up the process and get our license. Our name is called again, and ANOTHER employee ends up helping us, is more confused, and asks for backup. Who shows up as backup? The originally employee that we started the day with who provided us with false information. My fiancee explains again that his card was already charged and that we're just waiting for the receipt. He shows them his bank account summary (via his cell phone), with proof that his card was charged. What do the employees do? They charge the card again! After discussion, and more confusion, the charge is voided, my fiance gets both his card and our marriage license, and we leave. I cannot make this up. It was surely an experience, and I hope to never have to return here for anything again. For the life of me, I cannot understand why people who do not have people skills choose to work in customer service. Realistically, I should give one star, but in the end, I got what I came here for...which was a marriage license. read more

The Rep told me I needed to talk to an attorney and gave me the muber to the hotline. I stated I didn't need legal advice just information on the filing requirement. I admit that I went to the Prince George's County Courthouse (in Upper Marlboro Maryland) this past Monday July 8 2019 because I was summoned for jury duty. Yes, I was selected for jury duty though I must refrain from discussing that portion on social media for reasons relating to following certain rules. However, what I feel that I am allowed to say is that in all fairness I knew that I had to potentially brace myself for getting selected because I was also previously selected to be considered for jury duty in the 2013 and 2016 timeframes at this particular courthouse. The people I dealt with to be processed for and to serve my jury duty were professional and friendly. However, I would gently recommend bringing some money for lunch in case you are selected andor even pack at least part of your own lunch. Reason being; the café serving hot food that was available the last time I went there in 2016 was open, though this time a similar café to this had yet to be open because there was a café being still in progress to be reconstructed. There was a smaller eating café available and the cashier I interacted with was courteous though it mainly served only snacks and drinks that day because there was a delivery situation with the sandwiches that were normally available. However, as a consolation the employee I interacted with in the particular shop of this courthouse gave me helpful information on a 711 convenience store that was close to the courthouse (I wanted to avoid traveling too far during my lunch break both to ensure that I would arrive back from my lunch on time and because it was raining). Fortunately, I was able to get back to my apartment smoothly via public transportation bus after completing my jury duty because one of the buses that helped connect me to one of the metro stations that I needed to get to arrived quicker than I expected. read more

I've always wanted to be called for jury duty. But when called, I was apprehensive because I was expecting jaded/grumpy government employees and uncomfortable (disrespectful) accommodations. Oh how wrong I was! The jury lounge is a comfortable room with free coffee, tea, cocoa. There is also TV(CNN only), refrigerator, microwave, lockers (BYOL), free wifi, and tables with plugs for laptops and phones. I wish I'd known in advance, I would've brought more stuff. And.... the employees were friendly and funny. This place definitely exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations! read more

Come loaded with quarters for this Court. There is a 4 row parking lot. Most are 2 hr parking except for the front row which has max 8 hr parking. This lot hasn't bother to upgrade to a credit card enabled system but there is a parking enforcement agent there bright and early at 9am. Apparently there is a free surface lot where you can take a free shuttle. The attendant was of course unhelpful with the distance away ("just drive down that away, for how long?, I don't know") and how often said shuttle runs. There is a Bank of America bank across the street where I was able to get a roll of quarters. Having said all this, best $4 ever spent. Enjoy fellow parker because I rolled out 1 hr after get dismissed from my case. Oh and I am no longer gonna try to shirk jury duty. A jury of your peers is truly subjective. read more

I have called this courthouse multiple times over the past several months regarding a pending court case. I recently received conflicting documents, and when I called today for clarification, I was immediately met with a rude response. The person answering the phone did not allow me to even complete my first statement without telling me that I did not understand something, when in actuality if she would have let me complete my statement, she would have known that I understood perfectly and had already followed protocol accordingly. People in public jobs such as these need to be trained to speak to people in a professional manner and not a condescending, presumptuous manner. Every interaction I have had at this courthouse is with some woman with a terrible attitude. I am an educated, professional individual, and I certainly do not tolerate being spoken to like an imbecile. read more

This is a terrible place, filled with terrible people. Then again, being an uncouth bureaucrat might be mandatory for working here. No one knows who's doing what and what goes where, and the employees are HORRIBLE. When I arrived to file there were about 5-6 women talking amongst themselves while I stood for about 5min at the desk with no one else in line waiting for one of them (who obviously saw me) to acknowledge my presence. I filed for divorce and not one person checked my ID to clarify I was who I said I was. I brought in all my papers my notary and they told me none of it was not useable because they changed the form and I would have to redo it. Ok no problem! The new form was be identical to the forms I brought in other than some font and the order they asked a few questions. I know their job is terrible but a little customer service would be appreciated. I never received my court papers, and now have to bend over backwards to try to get an extension for my court date I never knew I had. They could at least PRETEND they're civilized human beings. Honestly just move to another county if you have to go to court, because between the snippy, rude, "that's not my job" people in civil court, and the slack jawed "well I don't know what to tell you" scheduling office you're better off packing all your stuff and moving somewhere that your court house clerks will actually talk to you vs them desperately trying to get you to leave them alone. read more

I had a court case last month and it was continued to this month. The Judge that handle my case today was new and he didn't make a fare ruling on it. My case was heard last today on the court docket, the judge stated at the beginning of the case if was not going to continue past 4:30 and it was already 3:45pm that lead me to believe he had already had his answer before my case started. I had to represent myself because the lawyer back out of my case two month prior to my court date, after a year of handling my case. The judge allowed the defendants lawyer to dominate the whole court hearing by not letting my exhibits be taken into consideration after he bulled his way onto my side of the court room to see my evidence while I was labeling them, I asked the lawyer to give me a minute and not ambush me by picking up my paperwork before I was finish labeling them. After I present the lawyer with my evidence he looked them over gave them back and then the judge return from his two minute break, I asked the other side to repeat his answers he stated he wanted to dismiss them after hearing what I stated. The Judge didn't ruled in the other side favor because the other side stated he didn't want my exhibits to be seen. I let the lawyer see my exhibits and it was unfair. The Judge didn't even given me no paperwork after he dismissed my case. read more

Worst courthouse ever, from the brainless clerks to the 90 year old judges. The clerks will catch a nasty attitude if you ask them questions. At first I was bothered by the multiple cases of bad customer service but after overhearing other citizens complain about the court clerks rudeness, I along with others, realized that they don't know the answers to the simple questions that are asked. Your paperwork might get. " lost ". Then they'll tell you they will call you but won't return your call. I will say that they district court clerks are not as awful as the circuit court clerks. As far as the judges.....omg. They don't follow guidelines and say what they want because who can you report them to. One judge I dealt with contradicted himself twice within 3 sentences then dismissed my case. Most of the judges are outdated and graduated from low ranking colleges. Avoid this place if at all possible. read more
