I was surprised at the size of this store given that it's in Wharton. The parking lot is undersized…read morerelative to the size of the store, however. That's made a bit worse at night having to dodge the semis that park here overnight. Their inventory is quirky, particularly in the health and beauty section. Then again, in Wharton, it's the only game in town late at night if you need something while travelling. This store also seems to be the local late-night gathering spot. Other than that, it's your basic WalMart Supercenter.

Great small-town grocery, plus…read more HEB's are all wonderful, owned and run by a very, very nice Christian Texas Family. This is a medium size HEB, has everything from fresh veggies & fruits, to coldbeer, prepared foods, housewares, pharmacy, ice, & numerous other items. HEB "store brands" are mostly excellent. One doesn't need to compare prices in any HEB, just get what is needed and go. As the store hours are very extended, this HEB has become a community "gathering place", where friends meet, exchange news & greetings, and get local "news"; while shopping. On caveat: The employees frequently pilfer small amounts of ice from the ice bags in the freezers. The missing amounts are not significant, but the tiny holes they tear in the bags to get the ice can grow, and cause a real mess if not noticed. I live in New Orleans, some 360 miles away, but shop here some 15 or 20 times/year. I wish New Orleans had its own HEB! Great store! Rick
