Wow, so this place is positively dripping in elegance from ages past. Do you need a masonic stained…read moreglass window? Maybe not but they have them. What about a gilded room that looks like it was ripped out of Versailles itself? I mean, who DOESN'T want that...? Or retro lighting fixtures from virtually every decade since the light bulb became a thing? The shop is overflowing with antiques and there are allegedly many additional warehouses of items behind the scenes. This does, at times, make navigation around all of the stuff hard, so this store may prove challenging if you have mobility difficulties or small children. The revolving nature of the items also means that not everything has an apparent price so there is also the danger of falling for something (literally or figuratively) to find out it is several hundred, if not thousands, of dollars more than you expected. However, most items appear to be quite good quality (staff indicated that they sell a lot of items to movie/television sets) and refurbishment + transportation is included in the price in some of the larger items (stained glass windows, for example). The rear portion of the shop also has a work area and I think they offer restoration classes. Definitely a unique place that fits in and adds to the eclectic vibe of Middletown. You might wander in to find yourself dazedly wandering out 75 minutes later.

I don't normally not recommend a place but want to note a few issues. It looks like they downsized…read moreand moved to the back of the building. That's why it took me three times driving by the building to figure out the entrance was noise in the back. To their credit they have a chalkboard sign in the front corner saying they moved. But in the sunlight and the sign being a little dark it was hard to notice. So we finally found the store. They share Parking lot with the next door laundry place. There are reserved spots for laundry patrons but I noticed that some of them were parking in the other spots next to the store so it was a little hard for parking. Going inside the set up was more warehouse styled. They had a few nice things but nothing resembling the pictures posted previously by others. Pictures and reviews are what led us to find the place. But we were disappointed to say the least.

Past to Present Antiques is an antique shop in downtown Niantic. This store is filled with…read morebeautiful artwork, ceramic dishware and furniture. I really loved some of the furniture pieces. They are very well kept and are a true bargain. At the very back of the store there are books and plenty of dishes. Here is where I saw one of the workers dump baskets and baskets of the items into the large dumpster outside. I understand they need to make room for new inventory, I don't think it's appropriate to do this in front of customers or during the time the store is open for business. They could do this during after hours, or better yet why not donate to Goodwill? This left a sour taste in my mouth about this business, seeing hundreds of dishes being splattered into a million pieces in seconds, that could have been someone's latest new treasures.
