I don't write a bunch of reviews but I feel the need to let people know about the awful experience I had with this doctor and office staff. Dr. Michael Bartfield came highly recommended by my current gynecologist, who no longer practices obstetrics after I found out I was pregnant. The office seemed fine upon my initial visit, although pretty expensive through my insurance. The office staff seemed very relaxed and Dr. Bartfield although on paper seemed very experienced was very awkward in person. This was not enough to push me away from the office yet. I met with their finance department, they told me because I had not yet met my deductible. I had to pay in full for my delivery that was still six months away and then they would refund me the remaining amount, which did not include my ultrasounds or any blood work done in the office. This is our first kid and we wanted to make sure we got the best possible medical care because I am both type one diabetic and of advanced maternal age at 34 (35 when I deliver) so we went along with it. It wasn't until I was 16 weeks that I had the absolute worst appointment of my life. The ultrasound technician treated me like a test subject. After taking several pictures of my babies anatomy, she looked over at the student in the room, who I was allowed in the room without my permission and said "do you wanna try?". I do not find it appropriate for my body and baby's body to be used without my consent to train a student you have let observe without my consent. I explained to Dr.Bartfield my concerns at our final appointment and he said " if you need to find a different doctor, there won't be any hard feelings" ... yeah I hope not since I am the patient. Later that day I was told by a Dr.Bartfield that my baby could have a congenital heart defect, which I later learned he did not have and that 16 weeks was far too early to diagnose something like that. Dr. Bartfield and his staff put me through a great deal of stress and anxiety for no reason but it didn't end there. I ended up finding a different provider and when I received the bill for my final appointment, I called up to pay it and cancel any future appointments I had scheduled. When I did this, the receptionist took it very personal. She told me she would have to change the billing code for my final appointment to a regular exam. I did not received an exam. Her final words to me on the phone were "good luck". I would stay away from this office. They don't have your best interest in mind, they are motivated by money. read more

I initially had my first appointment here with Dr. Bartfield. I had just moved back to town after living in south Florida for almost 8 years and was due for a annual visit. A few friends recommended Dr. Bartfield, so I made an appointment based on what they told me. I was having some issues with my bladder that were getting worse and I mentioned it during my appointment. Dr. Bartfield was the first doctor to notice that my uterus was enlarged, and he was the first one to investigate it. He had me come back the next week for an ultrasound, where they found a large fibroid that was pressing on my bladder. I was so scared when I saw it on the monitor, but Dr. Bartfield was really clear about my options and gave me the info I needed so that I could make an informed decision. After reading everything, I decided on a myomectomy and was then handed off to Dr. Lubbers for pre and post operative care as well as my surgery. Dr. Lubbers was the one that called me the next day to tell me that a hysterectomy may be a better option (I had already stated that I did not want children...and no one tried to change my mind about it!). She gave me no nonsense information about treatment but still treated me like a human. I felt really good about taking this journey with her after that first phone call. Before surgery, she was really thorough about what I needed to do to prepare myself and my home for the recovery process. She was also super thorough about what would happen during and after surgery. Surgery went really well, but the healing process has had its ups and downs. I had complications during the first few weeks after surgery (nothing to do with her work. Human bodies are just little unique snowflakes and we all heal differently, some have an easier time than others) and I ended up in the office almost every week. I was contacting Dr. Lubbers at the office *regularly*. She was consistently helpful, patient, supportive, and took quick action when I brought up any issues. I'm 5 weeks post op and am currently feeling pretty good (minus nerve pain that Dr. Lubbers was also quick to address. Nerve pain that no one else picked up on!). Her and the staff have been patient and have taken no nonsense when it comes to getting me whatever I needed after surgery and making sure that the complications that I experienced after surgery were handled (Lisa, Tiffany, and Marianne in the office are also real MVPs!). At this point I've interacted with all three doctors at the practice. Dr. Bartfield was the first doctor to actually validate my concerns and say, "you don't have to live like this." Dr. Mervis was on call when I reached out about having a head cold after surgery and sent me the nicest email to tell me what I could take to keep my symptoms at bay. I know the fellas get a lot of the shine here, but Dr. Lubbers is an absolute force to be reckoned with as well...she has such a bright career ahead of her, and she's an incredible doctor. I'm still on the mend, but I can say with confidence that Dr. Lubbers and this team have given me my life back. To say I'm thankful or appreciative of the whole crew at Prime would be a gross understatement. 11/10, would recommend! read more

If I could give this doctor zero stars I would! They are the worst doctor office I have ever been too in my life. They don't care about the patients, they care about money! If you are not rich and have to be on Medicaid they refuse to see you even if you have been going to this doctor for over 24 weeks. The are supposed to be a Medicaid provider but if you have Medicaid as your secondary insurance not only do they refuse to see you as a new patient, as an established patient they will refuse to see you even if you are supposed to have an emergency appointment to check on your baby. If you want someone who actually cares about your child and doesn't see a dollar sign when they look at you seek care elsewhere. read more

I found this office through Yelp and saw all the great reviews about both doctors. I chose Dr. Mervis based on my philosophy with treatment, but I think I would be in good hands with either doctor. Well all the reviews were right! I loved the office space, customer service options and the technology the have to give a confidential environment. They also left the big corporate environment because they saw how it was compromising quality of care and HIPPA (personal information protection) violated. I give them big props for opening up their own practice because of that and caring about their patients more than profit. Did I mention Dr. Mervis belongs to MENSA!! I love that I have a Genius as a doctor!! You won't be disappointed with this practice! It's ideal! read more

Dr. Michael Bartfield has been my OBGYN for more than 10 years. Not only is he a caring and compassionate doctor, but he is always honest and acts with the utmost professionalism. I was nervous and excited when he and Dr Mervis opened their new practice, PrimeOBGYN, but it has been nothing but amazing. I refer people to their office all the time. I always have a positive experience. Recently, my mother passed of late stage ovarian cancer. Dr. Bartfield immediately consulted as to what my actions needed to be to ensure prevention for myself. He, again, was caring and compassionate, but also direct about taking action on all of my screenings. I am grateful for him and his team at PrimeOBGYN. read more

I've visited both Dr. Mervin and Dr. Lubbers at PrimeOBGYN and the both of them are phenomenal doctors! After moving to Orlando, it took a couple years to re-find a Obgyn I felt comfortable and cared for with. Mr. Mervin really took the time to understand the symptoms I was having and everything I had tried before coming to him. There was another time I was literally 24 hours away from moving states, and Dr. Lubbers was able to squeeze me into her busy schedule. The staff there has always been amazing and kind to me, and incredibly flexible with my insurance company. There isn't enough kind things I can say about this practice, and even though I am located out of FL state these days, I am determined to come back for my annual with these doctors. read more

Being new to Orlando and pregnant I can say I was really nervous about finding a great doctor with google/yelp ratings alone. I can say all the great reviews about this facility are true. I saw Dr. Michael Bartfield throughout my entire pregnancy and my pregnancy was smooth sailing until around the 6/7 month mark when I started not to feel well. He had ran all the right tests on me and I was diagnosed with preeclampsia soon after. He told me to get shots to help develop the babies lungs after I was diagnosed in case I needed to deliver early, which we already knew was very likely. He told me to head straight to the ER if my symptoms flare or I have chest/stomach pains. I'm very glad he told me this and I listened. The day after I got my second round of shots for the babies' lungs my condition had severely declined. I ended up in the ER the day after and had to deliver 10 weeks early. Dr. Bartfield visited me in the hospital while I was in the ER which the nurses commented is unlike most doctors. He really went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of and my baby was safe. I had an emergency c section and everything went smoothly. I'm so grateful to him for his expertise to make sure my baby was safe. My baby is about to be 3 months now and is very healthy and doing well. Dr. Bartfield and his staff are very friendly and responsive to your needs and questions. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone. read more

What an absolute nightmare of an experience. When I found out I was pregnant I was looking for a new insurance. When I finally found an insurance company that would offer me coverage for prenatal care I made sure Dr. Bartfield of Prime OBGYN was in network because he came highly recommended. I was so happy with the care he provided. He was very patient and understanding of my anxiety disorder. I thought we were a great match. His billing administrator, Kris Gable, not so much. The only ways I can accurately describe her is either miserable or just plain nasty. She has zero respect for clients and treats people like another customer making their way through. Another dollar. We discussed the fact that my deductible hadn't been met since we just began coverage with our insurance. My husband and I agreed that we would budget and make it work because honestly, what other choice did we have? My baby and I needed prenatal care. The following month everyone in my household caught the flu so we had unforeseen expenses added (hospital bills, medications, and I was out of work for 2 weeks) so we weren't able to make as big of a payment at we would have liked to but we always gave them something, in order to show we were putting forth an effort to bring our balance down. We never wanted them to think we weren't going to pay. I was told that I needed to pay over $2,000 by my 28 week appointment. Kris Gable was never willing to work with us as far as a payment plan goes. I would understand if I had not been making payments but I had consistently made payments. The manner in which she speaks to people is so belittling and degrading, it's unbelievable. Somehow the amount due went up to closer to $3000. I made a $1000 payment about a week and a half ago and was ready to make another payment yesterday when I received an email notifying me that if I didn't have close to $2500 (the amount went up AGAIN) by 5pm that I would be discharged and need to find another physician but "good luck finding another provider this far along in your pregnancy." as Kris Gable put it. We called before 5pm and she explained she spoke to my insurance company and there was a problem. A mistake the insurance company made and that I fixed immediately but Kris Gable refused to take our money. DAYS away from being finally finished with a payment that seemed to continuously rise, 31 weeks pregnant, Kris Gable made the decision to drop me from their practice. We asked to speak to Kris Gable's higher up and she stated that there was no one above her besides the doctor, then refused to allow my husband or myself speak with Dr. Bartfield or any other doctor for that matter. I wanted to speak with the doctors and fill them in on what was going on to see if there was any way we could make this work, we wanted them to take our money and continue my care. Kris Gable proceeded to block me from emailing any of the doctors, stated that I should just go the hospital when it's time to deliver (she is not in the position to be giving medical advice.) and told me it would take around 45 days to refund the over $2000 we've paid. You don't have to worry about discussing/making your appointment or paying your copay in the lobby with the receptionist. This is all completed behind doors and appointments sent to you via text immediately. You will also see Dr.Bartfileld or his equally amazing partner Dr. Mervis during your visits and not a nurse/PA. This is such a wonderful practice. They feel like family now after going through my first pregnancy with them! Dr. Mervis is so wonderful and caring. I have 100% trust in him. I love that they started their own practice to have quality over quantity care; and you really feel the difference. Usually there were no other patients in the waiting area during my appointment times and I was always seen within 10 minutes of being there. This place was both personally recommended to me as well as coming up in lists for top OBGYN in Orlando - unfortunately they do not answer their phones or call back. There was no option to connect to a live person when I called and they asked for a 24 hour response time when I left my message. I went here for two annual, in-person appointments prior to COVID. I did not feel welcomed here, and was left to wait for sometime without any idea of when I'd see the doctor for my scheduled appointment. While I waited, the front desk staff gossiped loudly about a young, unmarried woman's pregnancy test results, which is completely unacceptable. Dr Mervis was great, which is why I returned the following year. After COVID hit, my birth control prescription ran out. I scheduled a telehealth appointment simply to get my prescription refilled. Upon answering the zoom call, I was told the zoom meeting to get a signature from the doctor would cost me $117. This blew me away, because I have great health insurance (that covers telehealth), and my annual exams had never cost me more than $24. With my job being closed at the time due to a lockdown, I could not afford $117 for a signature. Nothing with my insurance had changed, so I could not understand why the zoom meeting would be so expensive. The staff told me I needed to speak with the doctor about the cost. She put Dr Bartfield on the call. He immediately cut me off and said he has nothing to do with pricing or insurance. I wound up ending the call and sobbing because I needed my birth control refilled and suddenly my doctor was charging an arm and a leg during a mandatory lockdown due to a pandemic. Needless to say, I will not return to this practice, and I do not recommend. They care about money more than patients, and the staff gossips about patients' private information. read more

Let me begin by saying my 1 star review of this place is not based on the doctors in the practice, with whom I have never interacted. It is based on the office staff. I reached out to make an appt because the doctors in this practice were highly recommended and because I understand the practice does not require its patients to sign a "binding arbitration" agreement (where you sign away your constitutional right to a trial by jury in the event of malpractice). First of all, the staff does not man the phones in the office. You MUST leave a message and they will call you back. This rubbed me the wrong way immediately because it seems to create another layer of distance between the patient and the doctor. With this set up, I imagine it would take longer to get in touch with the doctor should I have a problem during my pregnancy. I was still willing to give the office a chance though. They called me back and asked for my insurance information and I subsequently emailed them my insurance card. I am covered by a Cigna PPO plan that is accepted by almost all doctors' offices. My insurance is through a university though (I am in academia), and consequently, it is set up in a slightly more complicated way that allows the university some cost savings. In order to verify my insurance, the billing department must actually pick up the phone and call another company that handles the administrative aspects of the insurance. In more typical situations, one would simply have a Cigna ID number that could be typed into a computer without making a phone call. That said, my insurance card is quite clear that all claims are submitted directly to Cigna, who pays them. Although I have dealt with some understandable confusion at other offices about this set up (yes, I get it, it's annoying), every doctor's office I have been to in Orlando (and NYC, where I'm from) has been able to figure it out (Advent Health, Women's Care of Florida, Winnie Palmer hospital, etc.). After sending my insurance card, the office staff member emailed me back and said they did not accept my insurance. I responded, asking "you don't accept the Cigna PPO plan"? She did not answer my question directly, but instead asked for my full name and birthday again, which I gave her, along with a detailed explanation of how my insurance works and that a phone call must be made. I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE AGAIN. These people care so little for patients that they cannot make a phone call to verify insurance (even if they're getting paid to do exactly that!), nor can they be bothered to respond to something they don't want to deal with. While having a good doctor is obviously important, having capable, reliable office staff is a huge factor in ensuring a patient's overall well-being. I'm honestly glad I had this experience when I did, instead of becoming a patient, and potentially being ignored by negligent, lazy staff at some critical point in my pregnancy. read more

Amazing practice of doctors. I was referred by my maternal fetal specialist to Dr. Mervis and when we found out he is Michigan alumni and my husband is a huge Michigan fan when knew it was meant to be. This is my first pregnancy and I am high risk. Dr. Mervis has been very patient with my questions and emotional up's and down's as well as very responsive calling me to reassure me after maternal fetal care visits. I am currently sick and was worried about my fever and emailed their website and Dr. Bartfield responded in 20 minutes and the office had been closed for 5 hours on a Friday! Talk about amazing patient care. The entire team of PrimeOBGYN is a phenomenal group and I will be there with them for years to come! read more

The office is small, you don't interact with a million people(it's usually the front desk,the nurse, and doctor) and you don't feel rushed. I highly recommend Prime OBGYN. After finding this office on Yelp and reading reviews I decided to make an appointment here for my third pregnancy. I had been to other offices with my previous pregnancies and I could not begin to tell you how many doctors I had seen nor their names. This office has 2 doctors .... just 2! And Dr Mervis has been wonderful! As soon as I came to my first appointment he was sure to pop in and introduce himself to me while I was getting preliminary checks done with the nurse. He sat down and talked with my husband and I about everything we were concerned about and he immediately gave us the referrals needed for other doctors I needed to see for my health issues. Even though I miscarried this pregnancy when I called in to get my follow up with Dr Mervis , the receptionist gave me her condolences just after I told her who I was. Dr Mervis is beyond helpful and is very encouraging about our next steps in order to have another successful pregnancy and has already made a plan to help in that process. This office is just amazing with a small staff and you never feel like just a number on a list. They CARE here... they really do. I LOVE Dr Mervis. I was looking for a new OBGYN with a smaller practice, so that I could receive more Dr to patient one on one care. I definitely found it! Dr Mervis and his staff are awesome. They got me in right away, and were willing to work with me on whatever I needed. It was the most relaxing OBGYN visit I've ever been to! He will be my Dr for years to come! So glad I was referred to him by a friend. Will refer him to others! (Not to mention that I have a rare disease, and Dr Mervis pointed me in the right direction for treatment for that.
