Upon arrival my husband, Taylor and I got to talking about our garage door needs. Initially we brought Jolly Goat out for the possibility of maintenance for the current door we have. After assessment we asked for an estimate for repair and new door. After hearing the cost for repair to the current door, it was decided we will be getting a new door instead. At the end, their repairman basically told me our garage door was in bad shape (drums shot, cable ready to snap, etc.) and quoted us $605 if we did it in the next 24-hours. Chris was sent to my house within two hours and told me that the door rollers should be replaced, but that the garage door lift equipment was perfectly fine. My experience left me feeling like the priority was maximizing the sale rather than finding the best solution for me as the customer. It started with a service call after my garage door was damaged. A-1 charged me over $400 just to lower my damaged garage door, a job that took less than 15 minutes. That alone seemed extremely expensive for what was actually done. Then came the replacement quote. A-1 quoted me roughly $10,600 for a garage door replacement. After discounts and accounting for the more than $400 I had already paid them, I was still looking at approximately $9,700 financed for 15 YEARS at 12.99% interest. What bothered me even more was what happened with the financing. Once A-1 saw how much I was approved for, the two options they presented to me felt like the two best options for THEM -- not for me. For some additional perspective, I've included a photo of my home and garage with this review. As you can see, there is nothing extravagant or unusually elaborate about this garage door. It's a standard two-car residential garage door. Thankfully, I decided to shop around and contacted Precision Garage Door. Precision offered me a very similar-quality garage door for only $3,705 after my military discount, with 0% financing for 2 years. Let that comparison sink in: A-1: approximately $9,700 financed for 15 YEARS at 12.99%. Precision: $3,705 financed for 2 YEARS at 0%. Look at the picture and decide for yourself whether this looks like a garage door that should leave someone paying on it for the next 15 years. I understand businesses need to make money. I have absolutely no problem paying a fair price for quality products and professional work. But the difference between these two prices and my experiences with these companies is absolutely staggering. Originally, I would have said to make sure you get a second quote before accepting A-1's price. After seeing just how massive the difference was, I'll go further: Don't even bother getting a quote from A-1. In my experience, they'll bleed your bank account dry if you let them. Getting another quote potentially saved me thousands upon thousands of dollars and kept me from being tied to a garage door loan for the next 15 years.
