Eastgate

I just got hired on at my job after being a temp through Express. I had no issues with this…read morecompany. My pay was always what it should have been and they even gave me holiday pay. I have never came across a temp agency that offered holiday pay. This is a good company!

I would advise anyone who is looking for work to be wary of this agency. It has been a few years…read moreago now, but I had such a negative experience working for them that I swore that no matter how desperate I was for work, I would never go back to them. I was laid off from my job back in 2008 and immediate went to Express Personnel looking to be placed in a job. They offered a temporary administrative job to me but when they told me what the job consisted of, I told them that I would rather not take this job because the client was looking for a level of expertise in Excel that I simply didn't have and I felt I couldn't do the job properly. When I told the Express recruiter that I didn't think I would be able to do what the client needed because it was above my skill level, she replied that I tested high in Excel and that I would do a fine job. Despite my hesitancy, I went ahead and accepted the assignment - and, just as I had thought - it was above my skill level. The client was patient but they were dealing with extremely complicated formulas in an enormous spreadsheet and this was totally out of my depth. I notified Express of my concerns but they glossed over my concerns and did nothing about it. When I got my first pay check, I noticed two things that were wrong: 1) they had paid local taxes to Milford and NOT paid the local taxes to the school district where I actually owed the money, and 2) they had also taken out city taxes for Batavia, even though the office where I worked had a Batavia zip code, but was not actually in Batavia proper. I called Express to get the error corrected but it seemed that they did not understand what the problems were, or were not willing to change anything. In fact, they tried to argue with me about the local taxes. How does an Ohio business NOT know that local taxes are not based on zip codes but school zones??? Besides the problem with my paycheck, I was trying to tell the recruiter that indeed, I wasn't doing what I felt was a good enough job on the task they had me there to do - and in fact, I was there weeks longer than expected - the client was frustrated with me and I could not blame him, but I was stuck in the middle; I couldn't just walk out, and Express, who was my actual employer, was deaf to my concerns that I was not qualified to do the job! It was frustrating and unfair for both the client and for me. On top of this, Express refused to resolve the paycheck issue! The woman that was running the accounting side of the office simply refused to help me - she actually said it was the first of the year and she had to get the tax information out to all of their associates and she didn't have time to worry about my paycheck. I found out that the headquarters was out of state (Florida?) and I told her I would call the main office to have it corrected - she told me I couldn't do that and then hung up on me! Who does that? I wish I could go back in time and contact the Better Business Bureau, Howard Ain, or someone like that, but at the time I didn't pursue it enough and the problem never was corrected. (I did end up calling the headquarters and left a voice mail but my call was never returned.) This was several years ago and they may have changed, although, if the same people are in charge there, I doubt it. I have been placed in a permanent position through a different agency downtown and they were great. Comparing the experience with other agencies I have worked with, I would say that Express Personnel is unprofessional at best, if not downright unethical. Compared with other agencies, I would say that they do not give the people who work for or through them the respect and care that they deserve. There are good agencies and good recruiters out there who do try very hard to match the right person to the right work, but this place isn't one of them.
