For such a small cosmetic store (one that I'm hoping gets all the more attention it deserves), it holds a mega load of different products. I recently found a Guerlain lipstick online (Rouge G - Try it!) because I refused to pay the enormous rip off they charge at the major department stores. On this opportunistic day, I happened to find the same shade of lipstick at this store and I found it was even cheaper than strawberry.net (50c cheaper, but still...) AND it was minus the wait. They stock all kinds of cosmetics, facial cleansers, eyelash curlers and of these, most of them are quality brands like Clarins, Guerlain, YSL, Bobbi Brown and more. The stock is constantly changing which is annoying when you finally find that favourite shade of lipstick, but be mindful of purchasing old products as they may have deteriorated in quality. Hopefully you can tell how excited I was about this place but I'm no good at keeping secrets, have a look!

It's usually discontinued products so you can find stuff that may no longer be available elsewhere. They stock premium brands: Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein, Shseido and Lancôme, as well as familiar brands such as Clinique, Dr Lewins. Revlon, Maybelline and L'Oreal. You can get Chanel single eye shadow for under $20! I have also bought quite a few skincare products here from the Dior and Clairns range. Around Mother's Day and Christmas, there are plenty of make-up gift packs and skincare/spa sets which are great value for money and will impress the recipient.

They have matte lipstick…read more Do I need to say more? Well granted it's not cheap lipstick, but it's matte. And beautiful. And matte. This place is huge. And it has everything. From facial cleansers, to make up, to nail polish, to heart monitor thingies, shampoo's, dyes... And quite a few lip balms too for those of us that are lip balm freaks. Great little pharmacy to pick up things that you need to grab on your way home.

Stock is well presented, and there is so much choice available; it can be so easy to buy these little nail polishes on impulse; especially for their cheap price; yet it all adds up. They also stock the cutest shopping baskets for this magic to happen. Make this the only establishment you go to to buy nail polish, and let the OPI nail polish experience happen in nail salons. It's the same feeling I imagine one would get if they found $100 in an envelope somewhere, handed it in, and got it given back to them when no one claimed it (minus the waiting period). Another curious fact about this store is that nearly every woman in town seems to know about it. The store, to my knowledge, has never been located on street level where passersby might have the opportunity to stumble upon it (they not long ago moved from their previous location in the old building very close to the state theatre in the city on a high-level floor to where they are now, the old Dymocks building on George St on the 8th floor) and it's never so busy that you can't walk around the 10,000 aisles (Ok, maybe 7) without knocking into someone, but if you ask around you'll find nearly everyone knows about it and visits from time to time. Beats me. So if you're in the market for a hair dryer, a hair brush or hair dye or eyebrow tweezers or hair clips or nail filers or nail polish or mirrors or hair bands or just about anything you can think of (no, no bikes) and you're in the city, you ought to come here. I've been waiting for many long years for Sephora to open its doors on our sunny shores and at last! It's here! Though it's split over two levels, it's not the biggest store. This combined with the crowds make trying all the testers quite difficult, but it's worth persisting for the brands new to Australia like the amazingly priced Sephora store label, Formula X nail polish, Kat Von D, Marc Jacobs Beauty - sadly no Urban Decay, or at least not that I could find. Prices for Sephora label stuff is pretty damn cheap, similar or cheaper than brands found in supermarket, and the brands found in Myer and DJs are priced the same. Haircare and skincare is upstairs, and it's nice to see two mirrors set up with chairs, GHDs, curlers and hair dryers - they weren't manned when I visited but hopefully they're there so staff can sit you down and help you try some of the products! It may be small but there's so much more to explore and testers to be tried - I'm not done with you yet Sephora!

This store has reopened as a Mecca Maxima concession in Westfield Myer in Pitt St Mall…read more - First up, I pretty much hate the Mecca set-up in Myer. It's so big and overwhelming, and disjointed, that it makes shopping in both Mecca and Myer's beauty department awkward. I think it was a really poor choice on the part of both companies. - The staff are AMAZING. So nice, patient, and knowledgable. I can go up and say 'I saw 'generic item' in 'colour' and it cost around 'x', and they will know exactly what I am talking about. I am not entirely unconvinced it isn't witchcraft. - Everything is beautifully wrapped, even if it's a boring, every-day item. The website, too, is super comprehensive. If you asked me Mecca vs Sephora, Mecca wins every time: Australian-owned, professional staff, immaculately organized and cleaned displays, huge selection of brands and products, and just a way more positive and happy vibe than Sephora.
